In the center area of the city, there is a massive hospital. It tends to all kinds of problems, from simple illness to limb loss. Their medical technology is top of the charts, as well as their staff. They pride themselves in never loosing a patient when they are admitted into their care.
It's inside this hospital where we find Abby and her friends in the waiting room. Sadie and Rachel are sitting next to Abby, trying their best to comfort her. Thomas and Kip are desperately trying to get any info at all from the front desk about Ares, but to no avail. The receptionist, a female rabbit, was unable to give any new info about Ares.
Abby is sitting in her chair, shaking like a leaf in a storm. She was able to clean the blood off without staining her wool, but the image was burned into her memory. Flashes of Ares lying in a pool of blood, her hands red as she tried to save him.
"Abby?" Sadie tried to snap her out of it, but her expression was frozen with horror; "Abby, please talk to us sweetie. Ares is going to be just fine, we promise."
Rachel gently rested her hand on Abby's. "Exactly! He's in the BMC! They've never lost anyone." She looked towards the desk, seeing Kip and Thomas walking back towards them.
Kip growled softly, looking back towards the front desk. "Little hussy won't tell us anything! Just the same line of 'he's in fully capable hands. Please be patient.'"
Thomas squatted in front of Abby, looking at her eyes. "Poor Abs…She must be really messed up about this whole thing." He gently rested his hand on top of Rachel's; "It's gonna be ok Abby."
The sound of the front doors opening made the group look over, seeing the Vice Principal, miss Phoenix walking in, along with 2 officers and a Red Panda wearing a fancy suit. The Red Panda was barely 3 ft tall, but he was in front of the group.
"How could this happen to my beloved students?!?" The red panda yelled, holding his ears; "First the ruffian attacking the Mythical students, and now THIS?!?" He then stopped in place and turned to look at the officers, jumping in place; "What the hell do I PAY you for?! This is UNACCEPTABLE!!"
The officers sunk their heads slightly as the red panda yelled. Miss Phoenix cleared her throat, moving her finger to her lips. "Principal Red, this isn't the place for verbal discipline. We can discuss their future employment elsewhere."
Phoenix looked over to the group, seeing Abby being comforted by her friends. She quickly went over to the group, hugging all of them except Abby. She looked at her, Abby still staring at the ground, shaking wildly. "How is she? I heard about what happened…the poor dear."
Sadie sighed, standing up next to Phoenix. "She's pretty much been like this since the medical units brought her here…she hasn't said a single word…"
Phoenix sighed, raising her hand to her lips, bitting her thumbnail slightly. She hated to see Abby like this. She slowly took off her jacket, carefully putting it on Abby as she sat where Sadie was, resting her hand on Abby's back.
Principal Red grumbled, looking at the officers, then looked away, waving them away. He then walked over to the front desk, jumping up and grabbing the edge, lifting himself up. "E-excuse me, young lady! As principal of Beast High, I demand to know the current situation of the student Ares!"
The bunny sighed, rubbing her forehead. "I apologize sir, but like I told the students over there, we can't give out information like that. I'm sorry, but-"
"UNACCEPTABLE!!" Red slammed his fist onto the counter, barely making a noise; "Bring out your head supervisor this instant!!"
"Sir, I told you I can't-" The phone ringing cute the bunny off. She quickly answered it. "Front desk?…Ok I'll tell them. Thank you." She hung up the phone, standing up and looking towards the group; "I finally got news about your friend!" Everyone but Abby sat up and stared towards her in anticipation; "He's out of emergency care and is in Room 317. You're all free to see him now."
The group looked at Abby, Phoenix smiling as she reached up and gently tugged on some wool on the back of her neck, making her let out a moan filled bleat. Abby jumped in shock, looking around confused. "H-Huh? Wha…where…" She then saw Phoenix sitting next to her, blushing when she noticed she was wearing Phoenix's jacket. "Ah! M-mist-"
Phoenix quickly raised a hand up and rested a finger on Abby's lips, stopping her before the Principal heard. "Not here, Angel. You have a friend to check up on."
Abby's eyes went wide as she remembered what happened, suddenly standing up, the jacket falling off and onto the seat. "Oh! Ares! I-Is he…?"
Kip quickly grabbed her hand, making Abby look towards him. "Come on! They said he's in room 317!" The group headed towards the elevator, Phoenix smiling and waving to them as the elevator door closed.
As the door closed, Phoenix's stood up and grabbed her jacket, folding it over her arm as she walked over to Red. "Any intel on the security footage about who or what that figure was?"
Red crossed his arms, grumbling. "The bastard was clever. Wore all black, covered any and all parts to keep its species a secret." He looked up at Phoenix, raising an eyebrow; "You don't think it's connected to that incident with the Royal Families from way back, do you?"
Phoenix watched the number on the elevator rise slowly, her tail flicking as she crossed her arms under her breasts. "I hope not. We have enough problems on our hands. Last thing we need is more drama with the Families."
As the elevator reached the 3rd floor, the doors opened up and the group headed down the hall towards room 317. As they got closer, they saw a buck wearing all white and a mask walking out of the room.
Thomas walked ahead of the group, bowing to the buck pokitely. "Excuse me sir, but we're here to see our friend Ares." He stood up, looking at the buck; "Is he…is he ok?"
The buck took off his mask, giving the group a warm smile. "Mr. Ares is just fine, he's just resting up at the moment." He motioned towards the door; "You can head on inside, just please be careful, ok? If you need anything, my name is Doctor Sam. I'll be taking Mr. Ares under my personal care until he recovers."
The group nodded, bowing as Doctor Sam headed down the hall. They then opened the door and walked in, seeing the hospital room with Ares laying on the bed sound asleep, an IV drip connected to his arm. His stomach was wrapped in bandages, his legs covered with the sheets of the bed.
The group took a breath of relief, Abby raising her hand to her chest as flashes of earlier came back. She felt a hand on her shoulder as she looked over at Sadie. "See?" Sadie winked, pulling her close; "Told you he would be fine."
Something brushing against her leg made her look down, seeing it was Kip's tail wagging. She looked up to see Kip raise a hand to his cheek, smiling happily. "I'm so relieved he's ok!" His smile then turned into a sneer, growling softly; "When I get my hands on the bastard that did this…"
Thomas rested a hand on Kip's shoulder. "Relax Kip, Vamps said she was gonna look around with the cops back at Ares' room. They'll find out who did this, and why."
Kip let out a sigh, trying to calm down. "Yeah, I know Tommy." He shrugged, resting a hand on his hip; "Guess it pays to be a Royal, getting to do whatever and no one batting an eye."
Rachel looked towards the group. "Well he's alive, that's a relief. Reckon we should head back to school? Help Vamps look for clues on who did this?"
Thomas and Kip nodded their heads, Thomas raising a fist in front of him. "Absolutely. No way we're just gonna let whoever did this get away with it."
Sadie nodded, her tail flicking as she looked at Abby, seeing her staring at Ares. She raised her hand and rested it on her shoulder, Abby looking over at Sadie as she smiled at Abby. "Why don't you stay here and keep an eye on Ares? You can keep us updated on when he wakes up."
Abby looked down at the floor, then back to Sadie, smiling softly and nodding. "Ok. I'd probably just get in the way of your guys' search." She raised her fists up to her chest; "I'll let you know the second he wakes up!"
The group gave Abby hugs before they headed out, letting Doctor Sam know that Abby was staying with Ares. As they got onto the elevator, Thomas rested against the wall of the elevator. "Abby is really beating herself up about this, isn't she?"
Sadie and Rachel nodded, Sadie letting out a sigh. "She has a big heart, so she's probably blaming herself about what happened." She looked towards Thomas, raising her hand up, her palm facing the ceiling; "You saw her in the waiting room. I don't think she's ever seen her own blood before, let alone someone else's."
The elevator reached the bottom floor, the doors opening as they walked out into the waiting room, seeing Phoenix and Red were gone. Kip's ears raised slightly as he looked at Sadie. "Oh yeah. I always wanted to ask you about something." Sadie raised an eyebrow as Kip leaned forward, whispering; "What's the deal with Abby and the Vice Principal?~"
Sadie's cheeks flushed red as her fur started ruffling. She jumped aside, raising her arm slightly. "Th-That's none of your business, Kip!"
Kip smiled a coy smile, resting his hands on his hips, his tail wagging. "Oh ho ho! So there IS something going on! Come on, spill it! They got a secret love affair behind closed doors?"
Sadie grabbed Rachel's arm, her face a deep red. "Oh he-ey! Look at the time! I forgot me and Rachel have to go do a thing! We'll meet up with you two later! Bye!" And with that, Sadie ran off, practically dragging Rachel along with her.
Kip chuckled as he crossed his arms, his tail wagging. "I knew there was something going on." Kip stepped in front of Thomas, raising his fist in the air; "Ok Tommy, let's go help Vamps hunt for clues!~" Thomas knew he was changing the subject, but he knew better than to feed Kip's curiosity.
While the group went off, back up in the hospital room, Abby was sitting in the chair next to the bed, her legs up in the chair pressed against her chest, her arms wrapped around her legs. She had her head resting on her knees looking at the ground, glancing up at Ares to make sure he was still breathing.
Abby took a slow deep breath, scooting the chair closer to the little table next to the chair, resting her arms on the table as she lay her head on her arms, facing towards the bed. As she lay there watching Ares, all of the adrenaline from the day quickly caught up with her as her eyelids slowly started closing. After a few minutes of trying to fight it, Abby drifted off to sleep.
A feint noise in the room stirred Abby awake. She slowly opened her eyes, seeing a figure standing next to the bed. Still groggy from being asleep, Abby lifted her head and looked towards the figure. She could just make out the figure was a serpent in a white outfit holding a syringe in one of his hands. "Whu…who are you?"
The figure jumped hearing Abby, his hood opening to reveal he was a cobra. "Oh! You startled me." The serpent's voice was soothing to Abby, who was still half asleep; "I'm just giving the patient a little something to help him sleep is all." The cobra gave Abby a warm smile as his hood folded back; "After all, that's what Doctors do, right? Just drift back to sleep, I'll be done in a bit."
Abby yawned and nodded, resting her head back in her arms, slowly drifting back to sleep. Her eyes suddenly opened wide as she remembered something. She sat up and looked at the cobra, a look of concern on her face. "Excuse me, but who are you exactly?"
The Cobra, now holding the syringe inches from Ares' IV tube, looked at Abby with a confused look. "Um…I'm the doctor in charge of this patient. Why do you ask?"
Abby quickly stood up, holding a fist up to her chest. "No…who are you Really? The doctor in charge of Ares is Doctor Sam. And he's a Buck!"
Abby went to hit the emergency button on the wall, but she suddenly felt something wrap around her neck and pull her down hard on the floor. She heard the cobra hiss as she saw his tail around her neck. "Just keep quiet, girly. I'm only to kill the freak! But if you keep getting in my way…" The cobra reached into his coat, pulling out a silenced pistol, aiming it at Abby; "Then I'll just have to kill you, too!"
Abby struggled against the cobra's tail around her neck, seeing him moving towards the IV with the syringe again. Abby tried to desperately get free of the tail, only to loosen it enough to catch her breath.
Thinking quickly, Abby grabbed the tail and bit down as hard as she could, causing the cobra to cry out in pain, flicking his tail and sending Abby flying back first into the wall. "Ahh! Stupid Bitch!" The cobra aimed his gun at Abby, who is now too scared to move, her eyes wide in fear; "Die you Bitch!"
Just before he pulled the trigger, a dreadful feeling washed over both Abby and the Cobra, freezing them both in place as their instincts were screaming in fear. Outside the room, they could hear heavy footsteps slowly walking towards the door. Abby and the cobra stared at the door, trembling as it slowly opened, a huge figure standing there.
The figure slowly walked in, the light from the hall silhouetting him in a shadow, but whoever he was, he was massive. Abby could make out pieces of the figure, but it made no sense. She saw a lion, but it had wings? And she could see a strange tail behind it…a scorpion tail?
The cobra took a step back as the figure closed the door behind him, the light no longer hindering their view. What Abby could make out was truly correct. She saw a tall Lion with wings and a scorpion tail wearing a suit much like the type Ares wears with a nasty scar over one of his eyes along with multiple other scars, now glaring at the Cobra, who is now aiming the gun at the stranger. "Holy…Wh-What the hell are you doing here?!"
The Lion tilted his head slightly. "Isn't it obvious?" His voice was gruff and deep, straightening his tie; "I'm here to keep ruffians like you from endangering the boy." The Lion looked towards Abby, raising an eyebrow curiously, Abby now seeing the Lion was blind in the eye with the nasty scar over it; "Oh! Hello there, young one."
Seeing the Lion was distracted, the cobra aimed the gun at his head. "There's a huge price on your head for what you did, Ticoré! And I'm gonna collect-"
In a blink of an eye, the lion's tail whipped at the Cobra, it's stinger piercing the cobra through his eye, going clear through his skull. The Lion looked towards the cobra with an annoyed look on his face. "Excuse me, but I was having a conversation."
The Lion pulled his stinger out of the Cobra's head, seconds later, the gun fell to the floor as the cobra collapsed to the ground. He let out a sigh as he curled his tail back up, looking towards Abby, offering a hand. "Apologies my dear, but he didn't hurt you too much, did he?"
Abby stared in shock at this creature. The feeling that shook her to her core was definitely coming from this creature, but somehow there was a gentleness she was feeling. "Who…who are you?"
The creature lowered his hand and looked over at Ares, a slight smile appearing for a few seconds before he looked back at Abby. "I guess you could say I'm Ares' father." He bowed his head slightly; "Don Ticoré. It's a pleasure to meet you." Ticoré walked over to the dead cobra, picking him up and tossing him onto his shoulder; "I'll be sure no more brutes like this disturb Ares' recovery."
Ticoré turned to the door, opening it as he looked back towards Abby, smiling softly. "If you don't mind my dear, please make sure not to mention I was here." He then closed the door behind him, leaving Abby completely lost for words.
'Ares'…father??' She thought; "But…but how could he be…' Abby shook off the nerves and stood up, running towards the door, yanking it open, only to find the halls empty, except a turtle cleaning the floors. She looked down both halls, but there was no sign of Ticoré.
Abby was at a loss. Ticoré just seemed to vanish as quickly as he appeared. She closed the door to the room, resting against it, letting out a deep sigh, sliding down the door till she was sitting on the floor. 'This is crazy!' She thought; 'First Ares is shot, then this snake guy showed up with a gun and…wait…was he the one who shot Ares??'
Abby finally composed herself and quickly got up to run over to the emergency alarm, hitting it. Seconds later, a group of nurses and Doctor Sam rushed into the room. Abby explained what happened, but leaving the part out about Ticoré, saying she drew blood from the cobra defending Ares and then he ran off..
The hospital's security searched the entire place, finding only a few random drops of cobra blood. They returned to Ares' room and after they agreed to keep watch outside the door, Abby felt comfortable enough to try and sleep.
Abby moved the chair next to the bed, resting her arms by Ares' legs as she lay her head on her arms. She kept her eyes on the door, her mind racing about what all happened. Eventually, Abby's eyelids closed, and she fell back asleep.
Outside the hospital, flying just above the building, Ticoré was hovering and watching the window where Ares' room was. He was finishing devouring the corpse of the cobra when he reached into his coat's inner pocket, pulling out a phone. He dialed a number on the phone, wiping his mouth of the blood as the phone called the number.
"Yeah it's me. The intel was solid, someone was trying to finish the job…Nah, it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. There is a problem though." Ticoré held his phone out and searched through his photos, sending an image of a mark that was on the cobra; "The punk had a mark of the Blackscales. My guess is that old Scaly hide knows what Ares is, and wants him out of the picture."
Ticoré chuckled, turning and flying off; "No need to worry. A little bullet wound is nothing compared to all the training I put that kid through. I'd be more worried about the Families when he finds out they tried killing him…Alright, just keep your tracks covered."
Ticoré put the phone away, growling as he flew off. "That damn Leader of the Blackscale…he'd do whatever he can to keep his ass on top." He let out a deep chuckle; "I can't wait to see how you respond to this, Ares my boy." He then let out a loud hearty laugh, flying off to his secret hideout.
To be continued.
