Kapitel 10: Father's Garden

After he finished resting, Jay immediately returned to help his father, by sorting the large meatballs and the small meatballs.

After doing that, he then started to brew the dry noodles and make them wet so they were easy to arrange when his father was going to trade.

Don't forget to add green mustard greens with fresh bean sprouts, don't forget to wash and drain them to become additional items in the meatball menu sold by his father.

Now time passes so quickly, and now it is 11 o'clock in the afternoon, and all the preparations for the father's business have been completed.

Taking advantage of this time, Jay, who had rested, felt bored and went out of the house to look again at the area around his house that he had forgotten for a long time.

"Dad...Wijaya wants to go out first," Jay told his father.

"Okay, be careful remember not to be too late, dad will leave at 12 past" replied Dad's son who was currently cleaning up the remaining preparations for his merchandise.

Like wrapping hot sauce and chili sauce.

Coming out of his house, Wijaya who looked relaxed in a t-shirt and shorts pant, walked towards the garden near his house.

If he remembered correctly, in the garden right behind his neighbor's house, his father still rented the land to grow some plants.

Such as cassava, sweet potatoes and papaya, which his father planted in his spare time.

As people who come from the countryside, both his father and mother have a passion for farming, so when they are in the city.

And seeing the empty land, the farmer's soul within them will awaken, and that is the short story of the father who rented the land from fellow residents in their village.

Walking for tens of meters, immediately behind the neighboring house and next to several rented houses, a fairly large land of 200 m² looked fertile and was planted with several plants.

Judging from the size of the plants which are quite large at the moment, Wijaya estimates that they are at least 2 months old, this refers to the height of the cassava tree which has a height of around 1 m or less.

And it will be ready to harvest when it is 4-5 months old. Seeing the green view in front of him, beautiful memories flooded Jay's mind again.

He remembers very well that, because of the decline in his family's economy and his father's health, this land was then returned to its owner and several years later sold again.

Thinking of his father's love for farming, Jay became determined to let his father buy this land outright, so that when he had time off from trading.

He was going to this land to work on it, especially since the price of land was currently still quite cheap and with their family's capabilities, it should be possible to buy it in a short period of time.

"Yes...this is a fertile garden," praised Wijaya when he saw the results of his father's hard work, even though he also helped due to limited time and focus on his studies.

So this land was only cultivated by his father, "oh...this is butter cassava seeds...this is white cassava...and this is ordinary cassava," Jay looked at the area around his father's garden.

Starting to identify several types of cassava that exist, from the memories he has, these 3 types of cassava are the types planted by his father, and each have their own advantages.

Cassava, as a food crop, is one of the main substitutes for rice for the people of the Patih kingdom, which has been passed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years.

Because of its nutrition and ease of cultivation, cassava is a choice for the common people in the Patih kingdom, who in the past still had difficulty cultivating rice.

Cassava has a bland taste, and can be processed into multi-purpose flour for cooking.

Apart from that, cassava can also be eaten grilled, steamed, boiled and fried.

All of which are practical and easy to do, with the addition of basic salt seasoning, the taste is delicious and filling.

Apart from edible cassava fruit, cassava leaves are also a favorite of the citizens of the Patih kingdom for consumption, especially if the leaves are young.

It will be made into delicious boiled fresh vegetables as a side dish, when the cassava leaves are a bit old they will be processed into stir-fries or vegetables in a delicious coconut milk sauce to serve.

Thinking about the taste of all those dishes, Wijaya felt hungry.

"Wait a few more months and I will harvest you!!!" Happily talking to the cassava tree inside.

Luckily there was no one there, otherwise Wijaya would probably be considered crazy.

After being satisfied with seeing the rows of hundreds of cassava trees, Wijaya then turned to several marsh trees in the middle of his father's garden.

This marsh tree is the result of a seed planted by his father, after setting aside the papaya fruit seeds that were eaten by his family.

Unexpectedly, it's just a fad, but in fact some of these papaya trees will bear fruit with a very sweet taste in the future.

Thinking about it again, Jay couldn't wait to taste it.

"Hey...why do I always feel hungry when I'm in the garden!!" Jay laughed to himself.

But even though it is the same as cassava, the papaya fruit tree has many benefits, the leaves can be used as stir-fried vegetables or boiled fresh vegetables, even though they taste bitter, they are believed to contain many benefits.

Don't forget the lush papaya flowers, which can also be used as a delicious stir-fry or steamed dish, apart from that, immature papaya fruit can be used as a vegetable, and the ripe fruit is of course a favorite.

"Ahhh...talking about papayas, it looks like some are ripe!!" Jay exclaimed when he saw the papaya fruit which was bright yellow which indicated that the fruit was ripe.

"Good... this is an unexpected harvest, let me pick it... it would be a shame if it's too late and it gets eaten by animals"Wijaya feel excited and immediately started climbing the 3 M high papaya tree.

Because he felt it was short, Jay didn't need any tools, he just had to climb the tree directly and once he was successful, he plucked it and went down.

Wijaya looked at the papaya fruit in his hand, the fruit was oval in shape and the size of his calf, he felt it was quite big, Wijaya was satisfied.

"This is quite a large papaya, very suitable to eat in the evening after dinner." Wijaya decided to eat it with his family in the evening .

Walking towards the sweet potato plants, which were widely spread on the other side, Jay found that currently it seemed that the sweet potato planted by his father was the ordinary type which was white and delicious to eat boiled and fried.

But unfortunately it still took a while before it could be harvested, so Wijaya didn't pay attention to it.

Feeling satisfied, Wijaya then remembered that there was a fairly large guava tree in the area behind the empty house next to his father's garden.

The guava tree produced lots of sweet and delicious guava fruit. Wijaya remembered that the owner of the empty house allowed local residents to harvest the guava tree if it bore fruit.

Because the owner of the land and empty house was a kind-hearted landowner.

Just when Wijaya decided to walk towards the guava tree, he heard a "crack"…..from under his feet, and looking down Wijaya found…..
