Kapitel 4: Chapter 4
Hyun Na Bi hadn't eaten a single bite from the moment her father died. It had been three days and not a single drop of water or food touched her lips. Her grandmother was mourning her son leaving Hyun Na Bi alone and her mother Cho Yeong Ja had arrived as soon as her husband died but Hyun Na Bi did not see an ounce of worry in her mother's face. Instead she looked relieved and happy. If Hyun Na Bi didn't hate her mother earlier, from that moment she despised her mother.
Cho Yeong Ja was busily making all preparations for the funeral and Hyun Na Bi saw the crocodile tears in her mother's eyes only when someone was next to her. Her grandmother sat in a corner and she was crying from the moment her father died and it was the neighborly elderly people who were consoling her and taking care of her. While everyone was everyone for her father, Hyun Na Bi saw her mother secretly going to her room and fill her stomach whenever she was hungry and pretend in front of others as if she had no appetite.
In her father's funeral Hyun Na Bi did not shed a single tear. Even when Hyun Na Bi saw her father die in front of her eyes she did not weep, she felt like there were no more tears left in her system. The three days from his death to the funeral, Hyun Na Bi's face was void of any reaction and she just sat in a corner staring into nothing. In the funeral too when the visitors bowed to her or said condolences she stood like a statue with no reaction. Hyun Na Bi did not want to even acknowledge them. Everything was gone and she was not interested in listening to the people about what a great man her father was. What was the use of all this when the father she loved so much was gone.
Hyun Na Bi did not feel hungry or thirsty but her body was starting to shut down due to the emotional stress and lack of food. Just like how Jin Yong had gone away without a word, he came back in the same manner. When Hyun Na Bi was too weak to even stand at her father's funeral that was when Jin Yong entered. He was there to hold her.
Hyun Na Bi's grandmother tried to make Hyun Na Bi cry since she had seen the state Hyun Na Bi was in right now. She knew that not a single drop of tear came out of her eyes and she was scared that something might happen to Hyun Na Bi with keeping all the pent up emotions within her. With her son gone now, Hyun Na Bi's grandmother did not want to lose her too. She did everything she could but Hyun Na Bi looked just blank.
Jin Yong held Hyun Na Bi in his arms and repeatedly apologized to her. No matter what anyone said Hyun Na Bi did not react but seeing Jin Yong triggered her emotions and his words was enough to make her weep out loud. Jin Yong was the one who held her the entire day and stayed by her side till they reached her home.
Hyun Na Bi's knees had buckled up and Jin Yong helped her get into bed and returned with food for her. That was when Hyun Na Bi really looked at him. Jin Yong looked tired and she could feel that something was missing in him. His behavior towards her hadn't changed and he was still kind and caring towards her but something felt amiss.
When Jin Yong returned with food to her room, Hyun Na Bi hugged him tightly and whispered, "Don't leave me alone"
Jin Yong wiped her tears and pulled her to his lap and said to her, "I won't"
Jin Yong held her tightly against him as much as he could and either of them did not want to let go of the other. Finally the exhaustion was getting to her and Hyun Na Bi started feeling dizzy and Jin Yong could feel her grip on him loosen a bit. He took the bowl and positioned her in his lap so that he could feed her.
Jin Yong placed the spoon at her lips but she did not open her mouth, "You have to eat something"
Jin Yong turned away her face, "I'm not hungry"
But Jin Yong did not let go, "Just a little"
Hyun Na Bi shook her head. She was looking only at Jin Yong, scared that he might disappear if she closed her eyes.
Finally Hyun Na Bi asked the question she had been waiting to ask for two years, "Where did you go? You promised me you will never leave me alone"
Jin Yong did not answer. He only looked at her. They stayed in the same position for what felt like hours. Hyun Na Bi's eyelids were trying hard to close her eyes and after a certain point she could no longer hold it and her eyes closed. She could feel her body being moved by Jin Yong and could hear everything going on but she couldn't react. He tucked her in the bed and opened up at last when he was sure that Hyun Na Bi was fast asleep.
Jin Yong's silent whisper entered her ears, "Wait for me just a little longer."
"I have joined in S university. I missed you so much. You don't know how much I wanted to run back to you. I'll be back by your side soon. Trust me and wait for me. You know that you're the only person I love in the whole world."
And with that Jin Yong had left.
