Kapitel 111: The Sovereign

Our swords clashed with a deafening ring, echoing across the arena as sparks flew from each impact. I could feel the weight of Lucifer's strikes more than ever now. His movements were faster, more precise, and his Gift gave him the ability to anticipate my attacks just as they formed.

But I wasn't about to back down.

Lucent Harmony still pulsed through me, though my body was screaming from the strain. Each swing of my sword sent a sharp pang of pain up my arms, but I fought through it. I couldn't afford to lose—not here, not now.

Lucifer's emerald eyes gleamed with the calculated confidence of someone who could see the battle unfolding in slow motion. Every move I made, every feint, every flicker of mana—I could feel his gaze tracking it all with eerie precision.

I launched into another God Flash, aiming to break through his defenses with a flurry of rapid strikes. The light aura around my blade flared as I attacked from every angle, hoping to overwhelm him before his Gifts could fully catch up.

But even in the midst of my assault, I could see it—he was adjusting. Barely, but enough.

God's Eyes.

He saw through my movements, and in the briefest of moments, I watched as his body twisted, dodging my blade by mere inches before countering with a precise strike. His blade grazed my shoulder, the cold burn of ice seeping through my veins as I gritted my teeth against the pain.

"I won't lose to you," I growled, gathering what remained of my mana for another strike. My breathing was ragged, but I wasn't going to back down. Not to Lucifer.

"You don't have a choice," he responded, his voice calm, almost detached. His sword pulsed with elemental power, fire and ice swirling around it in harmony as he prepared his next move.

This time, I couldn't fully keep up.

Lucifer moved faster than I could react, his sword swinging in a deadly arc as he unleashed the third movement of his art, Frozen Zenith once more. The ground beneath him cracked and froze as the air turned to frost, the sheer force of the attack barreling toward me like an avalanche of ice and flame.

I barely managed to block it, crossing my sword in front of me as I braced for the impact. My legs buckled under the weight of his power, and the ice creeping along the arena floor burned my feet, freezing me in place.

But I couldn't hold him off forever.

With a final surge of strength, Lucifer twisted his sword, and I felt the immense pressure of his mana crashing down on me. My sword shattered in my hands, the light aura dissipating as the cold overtook me.

I was thrown backward, my body slamming into the ground with a force that knocked the wind from my lungs. I coughed, struggling to breathe as I pushed myself to my knees, but my strength was fading fast.

Lucifer stood over me, his blade still glowing with the remnants of his elemental power. His eyes locked onto mine, and for a moment, there was no arrogance—only a quiet, unwavering resolve.

"It's over, Arthur," he said, his voice softer now. "You gave me a fight like no one else has, but this is where it ends."

I clenched my fists, trying to summon the strength to stand, but my body wouldn't respond. My vision blurred, and the weight of defeat settled heavily on my chest.

Lucifer had won.

He extended his hand toward me, offering a truce, but the sting of my failure burned too deep. I couldn't take it, not now.

I dropped my head, feeling the crushing weight of my pride shattering as the crowd erupted into cheers.

Lucifer Windward—the unbeatable prodigy, the one destined to stand above all—had triumphed over me.

All because he somehow managed to unlock his second Gift years before he should have.

As Valerie announced Lucifer's victory and his new title as the Sovereign, another presence made itself known on the arena floor. I felt an overwhelming pressure bearing down on my shoulders, and when I looked up, I saw a silver-haired man glaring daggers at Lucifer.

Kem Kagu. Ren's father, and one of the cornerstones of the Kagu family.

Of course, I knew exactly why he was staring at Lucifer with such fury.

Lucifer had unlocked God's Eyes—a Gift believed to be exclusive to the Kagu bloodline. A gift that had elevated their family to a position of global prominence.

"Kem," Valerie's voice cut through the tension, low and measured, her mana flaring around her in warning as she stepped forward.

"I held back, waiting for the match to end," Kem said firmly, his gaze never leaving Lucifer. "But I can't just stand by now. The Kagu family needs answers."

"Not here," Valerie's grip tightened around the sword she summoned from her spatial ring. "You don't want to blow this out of proportion, do you?"

"Blow it out of proportion?" Kem scoffed, his anger barely restrained. "What else can I do when an outsider is wielding the Gift that my family built its legacy on? The same Gift that's in my son's bloodline!"

"Kem." Valerie's voice hardened, a note of authority cutting through. "I understand your position, but this isn't the place for it."

Before Kem could respond, a calm, mellifluous voice echoed through the arena. "I agree with Valerie, Kem. There's no need for this here."

A chill ran down my spine as the overwhelming sense of danger intensified. I turned to see a woman with white hair and piercing purple eyes—eyes identical to Ren's. Her youthful appearance belied the immense power that radiated from her.

It was her. The current head of the Kagu family. Ren's aunt, Selene Kagu.

Her mere presence made the air grow heavier, and I couldn't help but shudder at the sheer weight of it. This was no ordinary person—this was one of the most powerful figures in the world, and she had just entered the arena.

She, too, bore the God's Eyes Gift, though unlike Ren, she lacked his triple affinity for gravity, space, and time. Instead, Selene Kagu was a quadra-mage, wielding mastery over ice, darkness, time, and water.

And she was one of the ten most powerful beings in this world.

Her arrival could only mean one thing—she had used the teleportation gates that connected Mythos Academy to all the superpowers, departing as soon as Lucifer displayed the God's Eyes in the arena. She must have been watching the broadcast of the Sovereign's Tournament.

"Don't worry, Kem. I need answers too," Selene said, her voice calm but resolute. "But not here. Not in public."

Her sharp gaze briefly shifted to me, and despite my efforts to stay composed, a shiver ran down my spine. Her lips curled into a small, almost knowing smile.

Her purple eyes narrowed—but not at Lucifer.

They were focused on something, or rather, someone, beyond him.

"He's here," Luna's voice echoed in my mind.

And I knew exactly what she meant.

Moments later, he stepped onto the stage.

Arden Windward.

His sleek black hair, paired with brilliant green eyes, did little to mask the overwhelming aura of power he radiated. Arden, one of the most powerful swordsmen alive, and one of the two Kings of the North, had arrived.
