Kapitel 37: Hundred Days of Pain

After an hour had passed, Kaff's figure blurred completely before the transparent flames flared and even went through above the ice-house they were in.

The red magic circle above his head got eliminated within the phenomenon, startling Yona awake from boredom.

"He's done."

After that sharp surge of transparent flames, Kaff's whole body was enveloped in a white flame, before it all coalesced into an orb of light that hovered above him.

The two women's eyes widened as they stared at the white orb of light that slowly floated and orbited around Kaff, before going towards his head, and entered inside without resistance.

After that, Kaff's eyes returned to its usual hue, and he blinked a lot of times before rubbing his eyes.

He rub them for a few moments before finally relieving some of the urge to scratch them. Upon opening, he could see Sharl...or Arc and his eyes squeezed themselves a bit as if having a look of yearning.

He smiled faintly and slowly walked towards her, before giving an embrace.

"I won't leave you anymore."

Puzzled, Arc only returned his tight hug before glancing towards Yona, who also had her hand on chin as if pondering about something.

Arc only smiled as he looked at the kid with closed eyes within her arms, before gently stroking his hair repeatedly.

"Aunt, I have a new purpose now."

...

***

I'll risk it.

Why stop now?

I bow towards Yona, and let out the following words.

"Make me stronger."

I don't care if she doesn't get any sort of benefit from this.

There's no other way.

If I don't get strong, I won't be able to protect the ones that I currently have.

My heart...will die.

I always feel like killing myself...even from back then.

I feel heavy guilt from the deaths of people close to me.

Yona and I locked our eyes for an unknown amount of time before she gave a smirk.

"Why?"

Why, why?

"Simple... Revenge."

"Haven't you considered that I already killed your target already?"

"Of course I did. But there's still one person that's still alive, and I know you already know."

Yona closed her eyes for a moment, before she opened them once more, accompanied by a red glint that almost looked like a slow flare.

"Hamion."

"That's right. If what all you've said earlier is true, then all of these things that happened all resulted because of him."

"I've trained a few elites when I was the Void Demoness, but since you have a different method of procuring magical power, then I'll have to know first how you acquired your power."

"...Fine."

I told her about the Source Time Box that was given to me by Three's father...and how a certain Vates tried to circulate his own power within my body by using a specific circulation, then somehow concentrated and told about her the vortex within a toilet flush;

Then about the white space, and the vortex within my body... I told everything, even the different colors of each vortex that passed through me;

The fact that I experienced an unexplainable torture when the first azure Origin vortex touched my body within the white space;

Azure, golden, red, white, purple, then finally... black. That was the order of how the vorteces changed;

How I ate a red orb of condensed Origin...

Also, what I named this particular power: Origin.

After that I couldn't really tell much more but I told her that I probably started at the scholar-level of power from the start, if I remember correctly because I was able to eliminate a flying beast, and also deal damage to that unknown demon that was left back then at Illa, before finding out that I already depleted myself because of overusage.

"That white space; I only acquired that upon entering the Master-level. You can see your own progress within that space, that's correct. But I haven't heard of anyone experiencing the kind of pain you've mentioned..."

We discussed a lot of things within that time before I realized that the two suns were already gone.

The next day, was when my official training started.

Yona told us to wake up early, so I gently shook Aunt from her slumber within her own ice-house.

...

An hour had passed, and I can see the two suns slowly rising, but we're confused as to why Yona is absent. Did she went to hunt for some game?

"Wanna get something to eat first?"

"I'd want to but what if Yona's a strict teacher?"

"What do you mean strict? She's been a nice friend when you were out...but she rarely smiles, that's it."

I heard something like an explosion from the distance, and before I could glance towards the general direction, Yona was already in front of us, hands on her hips.

"Kid, just getting stronger isn't enough. There's something in my mind that bothered me about your unusual methods, so I'll have you do that for a period of time." She glanced at Aunt and continued, "As for you, seeing you use some of El's skills, show me a demonstration of your skills."

"Aunt, you're training?"

"Of course. It's not only you who wants a revenge match with that general."

"General?"

"Haven't we told you about it yet? The general is still alive."

"Why did you told him about that? I said..... Tch."

"Oops...!"

Yona almost slapped her own face as Aunt stuck out her tongue while her other eye closed.

"Who's the general?"

"No point in hiding it. He's the one in the golden armor, also, that Vates guy is still alive too."

Three's father is still alive? Didn't she kill anyone back then?

The moment I heard about the guy in the golden armor, I felt my blood heating up.

"So he's still alive?..."

"You look like El when mad." Yona appeared in front of me in a split second, crouched, then flicked my forehead.

*ffff*

I heard the sound of something cutting through wind and before I knew it, I was sent tumbling for a few meters away. I rolled on the snowy field and stopped, not knowing where was up and down.

That's weird.

"How am I still okay?"

"That's strange. I put some force on that."

Yona once more appeared in front of me in a flicker but I tried to dodge her finger by stepping to the side, but I felt a heavy force hit me on the side instead.

"Kaff!"

I heard Aunt call for my name but her voice felt far away at the same moment, and I felt the same disorientation once more.

"Wow, it didn't break a bone?"

I heard Yona's voice and I found myself floating within a red spherical light surrounding me. Right now there were a few trees on the horizon, and I can see our ice-houses far away, almost as small as my finger. Just how fast did I got sent flying towards here?

"You're body's tougher than it looks, it makes me curious what can damage you."

This time, a white light gathered within her hands, then condensed into a spiraling vortex of light. She aimed her palm at me as an orb of light started to form, before it disappeared; leaving only a wisp on her hand and a sensation on my left arm which got flung to the side.

I didn't even saw the attack coming.

Should I fake myself getting hurt instead just so she can stop?

"That didn't work? How about this?"

The white light disappeared and was replaced by a golden one. A circle with a single character formed as she aimed her finger towards me, before I felt another hit on my other arm. This time, it stung for a bit, and I felt a bit lethargic.

That felt awfully familiar...

"Was that a Shant bullet?"

Her eyebrows furrowed, then her eyes narrowed as if she thought of something, before her expression returned to a neutral one.

"How much did the Vates taught you?"

"Just that, and the spell for fast movement or flight. I didn't really got to Gemmatria class at that time."

"This time, put up a barrier. The strongest one you could make."

That sounds dangerous.

I didn't hesitate to put up a barrier within the red sphere that let me float.

"What the!?"

Upon summoning Origin, there was this white orb that flowed from my chest and orbited around my body. I thought demons are the only ones that had these orbs?

"Don't worry, you're fully human. Guard up!"

I can see her charging up for another attack that was composed of two circles of light that overlapped each other, so I didn't dawdle anymore and put my all into making this spherical barrier enough for my size. I put a lot of Origin until I felt a slight headache, yet the barrier didn't turn even slightly purple.

Is increasing the quality from white to purple a bit harder than the previous ones?

As soon as I stopped creating a barrier, I felt my surroundings quake for a bit, causing me to grit my teeth and close my eyes, before hearing the sound of something similar to glass that shattered.

I opened my eyes as my back felt cold, only to find myself within the snow once more. Yona was standing in front of me, and I only realized now that there were now a lot of thin trees and the ice-house couldn't be seen anymore, indicating I was sent flying again only for Yona to dampen the impact.

"Unbelieveable." Before I could even start to analyze what happened within that split second, all I greeted was a splitting headache and my conscience on the verge of shutting off, but I struggled to stay awake.

...

Remember what happened during each time that I black out.

...

I pushed myself to stand, and can't even feel the ground. My sight partially turned fully blue, my ears full of ringing; I can't see or hear anything outside my body yet I'm not in the white space, neither did I collapse.

It reminded me of that day I tried to run without pause as I experienced this exact situation right now.

[Overcoming limits.]

Is that Yona?

[I'm trying to speak to you...in a special way. This is what I want you to reach.]

I don't think I can say anything to her.

[Now, try to pour Origin into your body while maintaining this state.]

I can't. Nothing comes out, and all I'm feeling is this bad headache that I feel my head being pierced from the insides.

Tens of seconds passed until I felt like a wisp or Origin came out and I immediately poured it on my head, just so I can check if it can ease the pain... yet it unfortunately didn't.

[Continue doing that until you regain your senses. I'll be with your Aunt until then.]

Seriously? This is it? Isn't it just like pain endurance or something?

It... really hurts though. I want to end this, I want to pass out.

Yet I could only endure, and hope that this would result in a stronger version of me.

...

I can't track the time, but I felt like a whole day passed already.

This regime couldn't be that bad, right?

...

The ringing in my ears are distracting, but I bet I'll get used to it.

...

Is it three days already? It's strange that I got used to the pain. I can't feel my whole body right now, but I'm probably sure I fell backwards already based from the posture I had.

...

...

...

Finally, my senses are going back right now. I lost track of the days I remained in this state, and even more amazed that I didn't even felt hungry nor thirsty. The bluish vision is starting to lessen, colors once more fill up the world, and I can finally see.

I'm still standing as opposed to my previous thoughts. My hearing also got back as the ringing gradually went silent.

Yona... is probably with Aunt Arc right now.

I should rest for a bit...

***

"Only a few hours and you're already slacking?"

Startled by her sudden appearance, I opened my eyes only to find Yona about to flick my forehead again, so I dodged by reclining my neck backwards a bit.

"What do you mean few hours? I've waited for days!"

"Days?... How many?"

With that pause, I can assume I did something different again, so I replied truthfully to avoid another 'testing' session once more.

"I couldn't track after the fifth day, so recounted and added three more days; that makes it eight days."

Her eyes narrowed and I could sense a bit of hostility from her gaze.

"Are you sure?"

I only nodded in reply, before she told me something a bit horrifying.

"Do that until you reach a hundred days."

A HUNDRED DAYS?

"Sh-Should...the first eight days be added already?"

"No. Start from one whenever you recover. Until a hundred days pass, you're not allowed to get out of here."

I know you'll be able to find me even if I tried to escape, so I'll just do it then.

"How do I go back to that state again?"

"Was it that hard to remember?"

She pointed towards the sky, and I felt like I knew what she wanted to say.

"Overdraft my usage."

"Exactly."

There were no more words after that as she just disappeared from sight.

Looking at the sky once more, I felt like there was also a different meaning.

Maybe I should instead send Origin towards the sky instead of within my body, so that I would be able to stay at that state until I reach a hundred days.

"I just hope I don't get buried in snow here."
