A shining wolf was now branded on my hand. It looked almost like a tattoo, something I'd never seen before.
"You seem surprised? You've never seen a Beast Contract?" - It asked, and I could hear her contained laughter.
"It seems you have much to learn, Child. I wish you a good life, along with my offspring. Please, do let it go free if it so choses one day." - It pleaded.
Suddenly, I heard some rumbling outside of the den, as if a stampede rushing towards me.
"Human, it's time we set apart our paths here. I've killed too much, so I must die now. Please, take care of my offspring." - it tried to push me away, shielding me from what was coming.
"Foul beast, we've come to slay you. Were is that courage now, hiding in this hole of yours after killing so many of my men?" - I heard an oh-so familiar voice, the mayor's son.
He was the most decadent piece of garbage that I'd ever seen humanity represented as. He would rape village girls and claim their words to be false, would steal openly from butchers and fish mongers and call it "donations" to his household.
He was someone who was born into what he thought was richness - which, to be fair, it was when compared to the rest of the town's folk - but that only lasted until he saw how well put together Imperials, be it mages or just plain old soldiers, were.
Dad had told me this type of scum was typical of small villages, and that most would end up dead after fighting in the army. Dad never told me who or what they were fighting against, but I knew there was something dark hidden there.
Either way, that didn't the change the fact that I was most displeased that my meeting with such a fine beast was about to end, just for some fool's greed.
I quickly hid in the shrubbery nearby, as adviced by the big Direwold, relucantly parting with her. Inside me, I could feel the pup's sadness, as if understanding what was to come to his mother.
I saw him and his bunch of cronies pretty soon after his voice sounded out, his usual fatty and ridiculously over-weight body on top of his dad's old war horse.
The Direwolf came out of it's Den, looking at the brushes I was standing hidden behind with a kind expression, as if thanking me for taking it's cub away. It collapsed onto the floor, it's strenght giving out, waiting for death at the hand of the filthy bastard.
"Well, how the tables have turned, ain't it beast? So glorious, so powerful and yet, still felled by me in the end. Quite poetic, ain't it?" - he turned to his yes-men, looking for his so needed aproval - "Pity you're in no shape to breed, otherwise I might just take you and tame you."
"You'd make a pretty penny, you know that? - he said, as he rammed his rusted sword into the Direwolf's neck, severing it's vertebrea - "Yet, you've spoiled it by killing my men, making you hurt and ruined. Well, atleast I get to disembowel you. Men, on with it! - he signalled, the usual sign for the hunting party to take the beast apart - and, seeing as I was the one who killed it, my household will keep the beast core and the eyes, as a collection. The rest shall be split apart by all of you."
Again, keeping the most out of it.
Filthy bastard, men died for that, and he keeps the most valuable parts.
Abusing his power, as always.
I kept hearing voices of dissent all over the hunting party, except for dad. Dad just took it in stride, all in a day's job, I guess.
I tried to sneak up to my dad, but unfortunately stepped on some wet mud that I didn't see and made a bunch of noise, making my hiding position pretty much worthless.
I was quickly noticed by everyone, making the hunting party get startled by my appearance.
"As usual, the runt follows it's dad around, looking for attention. Too weak to hunt, too weak to be used in construction... What good are you for? - the mayor's son was at it again, picking on me - Your dad has to work double the time, just for you. How do you compensate that? You follow him, not helping, possibly dragging beasts to our tail."
"You know what? Your family gets no share in this hunt , and be grateful. It's already a blessing I'm not pursuing this any further."
"What? You can't do this. Dad has worked just as har" "Enough!" - Dad rarely screamed, yet he raised his voice at me, looking serious.
"I understand and will thank your family for it's grace. I will take my son now, to make sure the punishement gets delivered. I will take my leave now." - He said, towards the mayor's son.
Dad quickly left the forest with me at his steps. Dad knew the forest like the back of his palm, even it's most dangerous bits. He was one of the most experient hunters, which is why I was so frustrated he'd get nothing out of this hunt.
"Son, I know you're frustrated, but you've gotta understand. We already barely make the cut with our "donations" every month, we can't give them any more reason to complain about us, can we?'" - Dad said, looking much calmer than he looked previously. Thankfully, his anger was just for show.
"Dad, is it true what he said? That you have to work more due to me not filling in the duties as an adult?"
"Aye, it's true. I wanted to shield you until you went away to the army, in a few weeks, so you wouldn't have to do this sort of menial work this soon in your life. I guess it was all for naught huh?"
"Dad, what if I told you I'm a mage?" - I said, lowering my voice.
"You're a what?!"
I'm terribly sorry for the delayed upload. Albion Online is one hell of a game, which *Whoopsie daises* took much of today's time. Again, I'm sorry and will try to schedule my days better. Pinky promise.
On another note, screw this mayor son's guy. He could eat a big ol' fat D**C for all I care- which, I do.
Kind regards
