My father had never been the supportive type, but I'd thought he might at least acknowledge my courage in leaving Nicholas. Instead, he only seemed interested in reminding me that I'd "stained the family name," and that the court might not let me keep my title. Well, if he wanted me to feel ashamed about the divorce, it wasn't going to work.

Walking away from that mess with Nicholas had left me with more relief than guilt. For the first time in years, I could breathe. Sure, I didn't know how long I'd hold onto my title, but there was hope. And if I kept pushing, maybe I could even take down Elara and Nicholas in the process. No way I'd let them get away with everything they'd done.

As I wandered down the hall, trying to avoid any lurking servants, the system's voice suddenly sounded in my mind.
