Kapitel 53: Fractured Silence

I opened my eyes to see the sun shining brightly through the window. I sat up, extending my limbs, and looked around the space. There was nobody sleeping in the space next to me. I got up from the bed and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. Because I cried so much last night, my eyes appeared puffy. I exited the master bedroom and made my way to the kitchen for breakfast while shaking my head. Due to the size of the contemporary apartment, the hallway heard my footsteps resounding.

  When I saw Smith seated at the table with a glass of water in front of him, my heart began to beat quickly. I took a step back and fastened a robe belt around my waist. I asked, "What are you doing here?"

  He gave me a sidelong glance but said nothing. His eyes were bloodshot, and he had a strong, attractive face that was splotchy.

  My upper lip started to perspire. Tell me she's alive, please. I took a sip. How is your mom doing?
