"The wedding, obviously," Caden teased, winking at her. "Jace hasn't proposed yet, huh? I'm surprised. He's so into you, I figured it would happen any day now."
Grace rolled her eyes with amusement, but her smile didn't quite reach her eyes. "There are more people who wouldn't want that, Caden."
The shift in her tone wasn't lost on Caden who gave her a more thoughtful look. "You're talking about Clarissa, aren't you? You've got to forget about her. She's a tough nut, but she doesn't speak for everyone."
Grace let out a soft sigh and dropped her gaze to the floor. "She's not wrong, though. We're from completely different worlds. And it's not unreasonable for her to see me as some kind of… opportunist."
Caden shook his head immediately. "That's nonsense, Grace. Clarissa's got her hang-ups, but that doesn't mean she's right, anyone with half a brain can see that you're not what she thinks.
