Kapitel 25: clovers

chapter 24|Hibi

"Yes nice kitty kitty" I whimpered softly. Making sure to keep my hands in front of me "Stay right there".

The huge panther let out a dark growl before standing to its full height of six foot three.

Fuck that's a big cat.

I tried to stay still, my hands still trembling in front of me. I hoped it would recognize my scent and leave me alone. But as it came closer the scent of its fur tickled the bottom of my nose and I felt my eyes water.

That's something else about cats.

I'm fucking allergic.

My eyes soon well up in angry tears as my face began to itch. But I didn't move to satisfy it as I was still terrified of the beast in front of me. I looked away and winced as its nose nearly touched my palms.

I felt it breathed in and its pupils dilated with recognition. It's large tongue escaped its mouth and ran over the surface of my hand and I shuddered in disgust. I looked at it to see its large blue eyes looking at me with love.

Yeah I raised you bitch.

I reached my left hand out to softly stroke it's head "Good Rhus" I cooed. My allergic reaction was at its peak as I felt my eyes swell up a bit. I resisted the urge to rub them considering that would only make it worse.

Rhus's ears perked up and his head snapped to the door I came out of a few moments ago. With his turned position I could clearly catch sight of the door on the opposite side of the room. It's placement made sense.

If a prisoner managed to escape (which is unlikely on its own) they'd had to go through a thousand, six hundred and seventy two-pound cat before they could even think about freedom. And considering the bones that still had human flesh remains on them that were scattered around the room, I assumed most were not as lucky as me.

The door that Rhus was staring at burst open and two guards ran in. The panther immediately pounced for them and I took that as an opportunity that I was not going to throw away. As she feasted on her new snacks I made a beeline for the door behind her.

Her large tail whipped out in front of me and I slid beneath it, knowing that if it collided with me I would've gone flying. I threw open the door and threw it closed behind me. I took a few steps back from it my body still trembling with adrenaline.

I leaned into a wall that was direct across from large windows. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as I released a breath that I'd been holding. A small sneeze followed and I rolled my eyes in irritation at my rather embarrassing allergy.

Screams of pain that echoed from the closed doors were soon silenced as Rhus devoured her prey. I winced at the unsettling deafening silence that rang in the air, unanswered questions hung heavy on my shoulders but I already knew the answers.

I shook my head and pushed off from the walls. Before walking to the windows to glance out at the forest behind the castle. If my memory was correct the stables are just at the end of the hallway and down the stairs. I can grab a horse from there and go look for Irina with Cas.

I took off down the hallways. Making sure to check that no one was following me. And as I sprinted through the corridors of the home I used to live in I felt myself gradually slowing down.

Spades had one of if not the best security system in the four Kingdoms it was quite well known for all trespassers being killed on sight. So it came quite a shock to me that the castle seemed very much empty.

There was no buzz of maids and knights walking down the passageways. It was quite silent, so much that I could hear the sound of my footsteps as my boots hit the dark blue carpet, probably staining it brown with the mud wedged in my soles.

The knowledge that no one was around made me shift into a casual stroll. The urgency of the mission seemed to have left my mind as I began to admire the pathways. The changes Adaora had made to the castle were subtle but clear. More armour had been added to the corners and the chandeliers had been updated to a more regal look.

But I suspected it wasn't her that made these changes.

My nostalgic moment was interrupted as I bumped into someone. Books and papers flew everywhere as we collided and they let out a surprised oof seemed to be caught out of guard as well.

My senses kicked into overdrive as I swung down to grab a small dagger that I'd hidden in the side of my boot. My hand moved up to hold the dagger at the person's throat. But my hold loosened as I recognized the face staring back at me.

Dark brown eyes with skin to match along with curly, kinky hair that hung unkept on her shoulders. Her lips were open in shock at the knife being held at her throat but her face transformed into confusion as her eyes caught sight of mine. Her fingers flew to lightly push away my dagger from her throat which I allowed.

"Hibi?"

"Euca?"

"Moms going to kill you!"

"I know that's why I have to get out as quickly as possible"

Eucalyptus paced across her room, one hand embedded in her forest of hair and the other in her mouth as she bit her nails. She let out a gasp "Where have you been!?" She ran to me and put my face in her hands.

"Is your back okay?" She grabbed my shirt and pushed me around as she tried to see my back. I told myself that she meant well as her soft fingers danced on my back but as I caught sight of the glint of pity that shined in her pupil I shoved her away.

"It's fine, its been years Euca" She looked away as if to process that we'd not seen each other in a decade. Her eyes began to well up in tears and mine widened. "Wow, it's really been that long huh?" She muttered to more of herself than anyone else.

I forgot how emotional she could be.

Her glazed over eyes caught with mine and I felt guilt flood into my emotions "We've been looking for you everywhere!" She shifted into anger "We searched for you for months! MONTHS!" I winced as she lectured me.

"And here you are, nearly a decade later. Your head almost touching my ceiling and your face riddled with scars" She was right, I was significantly taller than her. But that was not much of a surprise considering she was four eleven.

Or five one on a good day like she used to say.

"Don't look at me with that stupid dumbfounded look on your face Hibiscus!" She whimpered as she began to cry again "Don't mock me! Do you know that I'll be queen next year?!" She yelled again. She looked utterly disgusted by the thought.

That's right she'll be thirty next year, the right age to become queen.

"All because of you!" She shoved me and I didn't move, which only seemed to anger her more "Where have you been! Answer me!" She screamed. I stared at her not knowing where to start. "I have the right mind to kill you myself!"

I snorted. As if.

Eucalyptus was hemophobic.

"Wipe that stupid smirk off your face!" She grabbed the nearest object that she could see and threw it at me. Which- just my luck- happened to be a vase. I caught it and in anger, she slapped it out of my hands. "Look at you! More beautiful than the day you left! What have you been doing these past years?!"

She began to bang on my chest angrily. "I fucking hate you! Why did you do this to me!" She screeched "Why did you leave! Why!? Why did you leave me!? Answer me Hibiscus!" Her hits became softly until she was lightly slapping my chest.

"Answer me Hibi" She cried softly. Her hands flew to her face as she began to sob in them. Her knees buckled and I caught her, sliding the both of us to the floor until she was just crying silently in my arms. Her body shaking with every sob.

I held her for a few minutes before I decided to speak "I'm sorry".

This made her sniff "I don't want you're fucking sorry, I want an explanation". I laughed dryly.

"Where should I start?" She looked up at me, her face damp and eyes swollen with tears.

"The beginning".
