Kapitel 20: Chapter 20: After all, it's only sex

The light woke her early but she stayed in bed until late, her eyes determinedly shut, pretending to sleep, her body needing the inactivity. It was going to get plenty that night. She squeezed that thought away. Just before one she took herself off to the local beauty salon and put herself into their hands. After being waxed, massaged, steamed, oiled, shampooed and deep conditioned she floated back to the flat and slept with her feet elevated and cucumber slices on her eyes. By the time she was ready to leave she felt rested and fatalistic.

William met her at his door and stared. 'You're absolutely beautiful.'

She smiled. 'Are you going to ask me in?'

He laughed as though a weight had lifted. 'Come out to the patio.' She let him take her arm. 'We'll eat in the gazebo so we're not bothered by insects, but I thought drinks by the pool would be pleasant.'
