Lam_ Alright, so Emperor Nan Gong actually translates to Southern Palace Emperor literally. But as with our author, I have no idea if that’s actually his name or there may be more ‘Palace Emperors’. Will leave it as Emperor Nan Gong till an explanation or something comes where his position is explained.
Also, one thing to take note of is that one of the most famous Bodhisattva in Chinese culture is the Goddess of Mercy. Even though not all Bodhisattvas are females, because of that, it's easy to refer to Bodhisattvas as females and Buddhas as males. Hence the reason why Lin Fan advised Reverend Shakya to take on the path of a Bodhisattva instead. Cheers!
