Schreiben Sie eine RezensionComing from Rebirth of a Thief. This novel is severely lacking not to mention the blatant copy paste of World of warcraft. Read this if you have absolutely nothing else to do.
Total Rip off from world of warcraft. :( Too lazy world setting and characters. No-where near TKA, Reincarnated Thief, Zhang Long etc. Translation is fine tho.
This is a VRMMORPG story that is dragged down by the unimaginative and blatant copying of Warcraft lore. The story has ripped out (Illidan, Elune, Malfurion, Aegwynn, Medivh, Cenarius, Ashenvale and more) so many pieces of Warcraft lore that the story comes across as a VRMMO fanfic rather than an actual novel. Characters seem 2 dimensional with little growth or change as of chapter 167. As much as I enjoy this story the blatant copying and misinterpretation of the lore which it is copying distracts from most of the enjoyment I get out of this novel. The world building credit shouldn't go to the author for he never built the world he just stole Warcraft's.
Just a copy-paste of World of Warcraft, all in all it's a story about a Chinese Gold Farmer back in the time of Vanilla WoW and poorly written with small changes that make the game seem more broken and random.
Just gonna give this 5 stars to bring its rating back up. In actuality, this is more of a 4-star novel, but it's bull**** that this has a 3.9 on QI when other novels with a garbage rating on Novel Updates consistently have a 4.0+ here. PROTIP check NU for more accurate novel scores. Review wise this is another interesting thief-character VRMMORPG story so if that's your jam then this is another good addition to your reading list. Don't know what some people are complaining about, they're probably just triggered WoW fanboys, I have almost no knowledge of WoW and found no logical errors or anything that detrimental to the story. It might not make sense from a WoW fanboy standpoint, but if you take this story as its own universe I think you'll find the content enjoyable.
As a great fan of Rebirth of the thief (CN) and Emperor of Solo Play (KR), this novel hasn't been impactful to me. To put it simply, I don't like how the MC act because It doesn't make sense (at least to me). The MC joined a gaming union in which he had to collect gold each week as a compensation for the renting fee of the Gaming Helmet. But, the problem arose when the Union's gold collection team was already full. He arrogantly said that he could gather 20 gold each week and the union accepted. (Voila, he got himself into a 3-months contract and he had to submit 20 gold per week to the union) The problem is, 20 gold is a HUGE amount. It's even equal to the Gaming Helmet's price (30,000$) (This is based on a chapter in which the author said that 63 silvers equal to 1000$, ****** math -> 20 gold = +-25,000$). Well, he managed to earn that much on his first day. But if he's that confident, isn't it better to get a loan from even a loan shark, duh? The game lore used a lot of names from WoW and other Blizzard-games and that's a minus to the originality. All in all, it's still an enjoyable read if you are pretty bored. But, Rebirth of the Thief and Emperor of Solo Play leave this novel in the dust.
tl.dr: One of the best Chinese VR novels translated. Overall a top 5 online novels VR novel. Generic story-line, however well written, with somewhat flushed out characters, good combat system and an interesting plot. --Characters-- Characters in this novel are often intelligent, however not overly arrogant. As of this review, while their was one unrealistic action the MC has done, overall their is logic to the MC. He tries his best to be low key, while not degrading into someone who is unreasonably afraid of achievement, while at the same time is not afraid to exploit his advantages to a reasonable extent. The time travel element, adds reason to why the MC does certain things. It is also refreshing to see a MC who knows when to retreat and not just mindlessly offend people, just to further the plot. Unfortunately, the regrets before his rebirth, his girlfriend, and anything he did previous to his rebirth is completely neglected. The only relevance the rebirth has, is giving future game knowledge to the MC. There is no reminisce or drive that comes from the rebirth past the first few chapters. --Plot (contains minor spoiler)-- The plot of the story is a generic plot in which the MC is reborn with game knowledge and uses this knowledge to obtain hidden advantages. As of writing this review (ch.51) the MC uses his knowledge to exploit a bug and solo a world boss, finds a unique item which he exploits to get an advantage over others(gold likewise), as well as strategies to clear dungeons. Though the plot is cliche, it works, other components are strong enough to cover this weakness. --Combat System and it's Effect on Plot-- My personal favorite part of the novel is the combat system, which though not heavily covered, I believe adds lots of depth to the novel. The combat system is split into two systems the manual system, and the automatic system. Though initially the manual system is far less efficient than the automatic combat system through continuous effort, one becomes more optimal using manual combat. I believe that because the main reason for the MC advantage over others is mostly due to the innate knowledge of the benefits of the manual system, it makes the story far easier to swallow, then if for example, the MC found an OP item that made him better in any way possible. Due to the MC's constant growth through the higher completion of combos in the combat system, I feel the story is less stagnant then it would be without it. --World Building-- Overall the novel does a good job at building up the setting for the novel. The massive effect this VR has on the world is sufficiently explained, with the flexibility of the VR world itself allowing for unique situations, such that its hard to make the story stale. The realism, in that there are still bugs and exploits, allows for the world to be more immersive, as it is easier to relate to, and overall the story does a good job.
Another unoriginal story based on the World of Warcraft game aka WoW. When this site turns to pay per view it will die as we (westerners) dont expect to pay for poor quality stories.
Although I'm not one to criticize the lesser points of the novels I read this has been one of the most unoriginal yet. Creating through blatant copying of the myths and lore of other artists, writing is not something done on a whim! It requires thought, time and creativity. The greatest selling novels are not ones that are simply made on impulse. The lack of flow within the story is evident throughout, situations and logic unexplained with the author blatantly telling us "Just go with the flow!". Completely moronic! I do have to say that though the translating team have strange tastes in picking this novel it is without a doubt they are patient, and I do sincerely hope they are trying their best as well. For even though the essence may not be good without the proper execution of translation it would still be sh*t without a doubt. That is why I regret to end this review with a low evaluation. All novels have much potential, but a novel made just for fame or money is also a novel made without love or respect for one's own work.
The joy in a reincarnation story is the main character coming up with and enacting an intelligent plan that gives him incredible advantages. This story, the MC is kind of stupid. While he has some foreknowledge, he isn't smart enough to really understand how to use it. He doesn't make any interesting plans. He just bumbles around mostly relying on the fact that he's able to play from launch day instead of showing up late to the party like last time. Furthermore, the world is a literal exact copy of WoW... Which.... Shouldn't that make this have a fan fic tag? Regardless of the setting it's lazy. I mean, by all means be inspired but for heaven's sake, at least change the names! I love these reincarnation stories but I can't find anything compelling about this one. Makes Reincarnation of the Strongest Sword God look like great literature in comparison.
This is totally a bland story without even containing a little bit of comedy and romance. It has no originality of its own. There's no color in this story. Simple MC levels up kill mobs converts gold to real currency and then level up and this **** goes on and on. I fucking can't simply understand author's line of thought. He tries to make MC keep his identity hidden but at the same time he makes him a top player. He wants to earn as much as possible given the opportunity but at the same time he rejects all the offers to earn big. He gave MC 2nd chance(reincarnation) too early(three years) to do any good **** and then made him choose a ****ty progression class "Thief". Author contradicts himself too much. He forgets things. His naming sense sucks which destroys the mood of a readers immediately. He forgets what **** he has written. I'm too disappointed in this story. Moonlight sculpture is way better than compared to this ****ty story. Well there are lot of things I wanna know and criticize about but I have become too numb to ask or comment on anything written by all the authors who only know to write dumb things.
What happened there hasn’t been any update to this novel in over a week now. Has anyone heard anything?? I like this novel and look forward to story being built up, adding word of Warcraft in it was interesting. I really hope translators let us know if he has to take a break for a week or two or a month in Webnovel.
Mind you, I’ve only read like the first 16 chapters but I have yet to see or read anything that would or could show me that lu Lu or whatever the MCs name as a great thieve as what the title had us believing . The Mc is just bad written there is no way about it , later on in the story it might get better I don’t know but what I know is that an Ameture author should never write about rebirth cuz that means that our dear Mc needs to be stronger, smarter and way more maturer than anybody else around him , and those aren’t things you can expect from an author writing their first novel . I mean this novel is screaming at you the ameturness of the Mc , like it his first time playing the game , yea yea I know he had I different class at the time but that doenst mean he need to act like a moron or a twelve years old who just got into the game , don’t even get me started on that whole contract thing I get that the author wanted to write a strifft and all, but did it have to be so stupid and leaving the contract blank not telling us any thing about it is shouts crazy to me , plus what kind of moron accepts a contract that unfair . There is a lot more , waaaaay more but billige it or not I don’t won’t to get into the details .
Translation top notch as always. But unfortunately translating a novel that is absolutely horrible. If you don't want to waste your time then I would suggest not reading this.
Poor editing. Hard to read with the irregular spacing. Increasing word count. NXhchdhxhxhxhxhxhxhxhxhxhchf gxycucucjdnfjcjcjcjcjcucucivigivivjg
In my subjective opinion, I quite like this novel but somehow the translation is getting worse since the beginning or maybe the editing..anyway, reading it now is not enjoyable with the writing lines or paragraph all over the place.
thank you for everybody who made it possible for me to read another great novel. for me this is another great one, i love reading mmorpg novels cause im a gamer myself. thanks for giving this enjoyment in life =) oh and yeah kinda same as rebirth of the thief tho... almost same
Hello everyone, It has come to our attention that a number of the chapters have issues with formatting. We realise that this was due to the uploading process and are working to fix the affected chapters. Sorry if this has made reading The Great Thief a less-than-enjoyable experience for you; none of the chapters in the future should have this problem. Thanks for continuing to support us and read our translations! - Halcyon Translations (posting requires a rating, so we'll be leaving the same rating as the current one to leave things unaffected)
how can the main character be like that , what the story writer is thinking even if the mc wants money he can't say everything to others like that when they ask , atleast a few secrets should be kept to mc himself . how can he say about the assasination league with that shitty bitch when she asked , does he even had a brain , i don't like the story writer..............
I'm genuinely surprised by the amount of positive reviews for this novel. The entire story so far has been almost entirely a copy + paste of the popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft. If this isn't blatant copyright infringement, I don't know what is. In addition, even if the reader has no clue what World of Warcraft is, no less the lore of the game, the way that the story is presented in this novel is horrible. Random names and events are given throughout the novel, and they are in no way actually explained, leaving the reader clueless as to what they are actually reading. I've read through the reviews here, and one guy even said that the world building was amazing. What? There is literally no world building at all. It's as if the author just took events and character names from World of Warcraft and inserted them randomly into their novel. All in all, this novel shows a complete lack of imagination from the author.
