Two weeks had passed since Jasmine had awakened. Through her training with Eris, she had already gotten a decent portion of her strength back, and all there was left was to refine her magic.
Although the novel had no in-depth description of how Jasmine's powers worked, the fight between her and the hero was often a dazzling show of magic. Using it, however, wasn't exactly as easy as simply imagining it. No matter what she did, her control wasn't the greatest, and she had to hold herself back intentionally so as not to cause commotion.
"Eris, I think I got a hang of the fireball spell. Wanna see?"
Eris shook her head. "Go for it!"
"Watch closely." Jasmine closed her eyes, mentally searching within her soul for any clues on her powers.
Jasmine called the familiar feeling. However, her head just kept screaming random nonsense, nothing akin to anything she'd done before.
"Shit..."
She furrowed her eyebrows and clenched her fist. Concentration didn't seem to work this time. Her frustration bubbling, her urge to vent overwhelmed her.
She raised her palm forward and channeled all her energy and frustration to the hand. Then, her hand exploded, sending a mighty flame scorching through the skies, aimed at the distant horizon.
It hit the nearby cliff, where its tip got caught. It continued to melt and destroy the structure until there was an audible boom. She closed her hand into a fist. Her shoulders dropped. She couldn't control the magic.
"Shit." She looked at Eris, ashamed. "That's gotta cause some people to wonder. Right...?"
"Uhh, don't worry about that. It'll go off as a mystery. At least, we can hope so," she chuckled.
Eris walked toward her and grabbed her hands. Jasmine couldn't resist smiling at the warmth coming from her slender hands.
"Trouble controlling the spells? There's no problem." She intertwined her fingers in hers, letting their palms touch. "Think of the feeling again and..." She guided their hands down to a nearby tree and released them, palm down on the bark.
"Like this."
They both opened their palm at the same time. This time, a more controlled yet lethal fire blast emitted from her palms, searing the area. Its heat felt comfortably warm on their fingers and faces.
Jasmine chuckled. "Ahaha, now that felt better, didn't it? Oh, look, your skirt caught fire though."
"Ah fuck!" She jumped and slapped the area to put it off. The skirt burned for a second longer, enough to sear off some fabric.
Eris bent down to examine the damage, her firm butt jutting out from the burnt-off skirt. Jasmine quickly turned around as she attempted to ignore the sudden swelling sensation in her crotch. Sleeping every night next to such a gorgeous demon girl without making any moves was starting to grate her. But the last thing she wanted to do was to take advantage of Eris' loyalty and devotion. All she could do was admire her soft breathing and feminine musk.
She was as inexperienced as one could be, and starting off with someone as voluptuous as Eris was surely impossible. Not to mention her occasional struggle with being a female body. Although she hadn't been in any social situations yet, waking up with those plumpy melons every day had taken a toll on her self-control. And a morning wood was naturally guaranteed.
"Eris, you okay?"
"I am. My clothes aren't," Eris sighed, sitting down.
Jasmine took a seat, looking into the distance as the sun descended beyond the treetops. She took a deep breath, counting to five in her head before speaking. "Hey, Eris, what do you think of me? Don't just say that I'm your queen and that I'm this and that... If I was just a normal demon, like you, would you..."
"Jasmine, you're wonderful." Eris smiled, brushing her cheek.
The simple words made Jasmine's heart soar higher than ever before. For a moment, it felt like time stopped, and everything around them froze. The two of them looked into each other's eyes, each taking a deep breath in.
"Would I... what?" she tilted her head.
"Well... Ehh..." Jasmine stumbled, her tongue going into autopilot. "Thanks."
"Hmm?"
"No, uhh, nevermind." She tried not to look at the shapely cleavage poking out from the white camisole that hid under Eris's clothes. In the waning light of day, those curves and edges cast long, exaggerated shadows as the fabric contoured against her skin. She was perfect—everything Jasmine wanted and so much more.
Eris's face began blushing as well. She squirmed slightly under the gaze before standing up and brushing her outfit. "Maybe we can stop practicing. Shouldn't overdo it, or the humans might wonder."
"Yeah, good idea."
As they headed back to their humble dwelling, Jasmine couldn't help but notice how they'd moved closer than necessary as they strolled along. Eris walked by her side, their arms almost touching as they walked in comfortable silence. A comfortable, fluttery feeling lingered within her. Was that even possible?
Eris sat down on the bed, her hands on her lap. She bit down hard on her bottom lip, hesitating whether she should voice her question, but the words escaped her throat, and she could no longer hide it.
"Back when you awoke again, we went for a walk. You remember, right?" she spoke.
"Yeah."
"And it was as if you could read my thoughts. You knew I had been lonely, and you comforted me. You didn't consider yourself any higher than I was and treated me as your equal," she continued, staring deeply into Jasmine's bright crimson irises. "If you're so good at reading people, you should know exactly how I feel. Even if it wasn't my duty, I would still do everything for you."
Jasmine swallowed, her heart racing within her chest.
Eris brushed a strand of hair out of the way and touched Jasmine's cheek. It felt hot to the touch; her skin almost felt as though it was burning up from her sudden confession, but she didn't care, pulling her in for a long-overdue kiss.
