Lin Fei left Chen Wei's house after instructing the guy on what to purchase. Essences weren't that pricey, but some were easier to form than others, so there existed a variation in price range.
Earth Essence, for example, only costs 100 Low-Grade Spirit Stones, while Ice Essence would no doubt cost more than that. Lin Fei had no idea how much, but just for good measure, he handed him another two Mid-Grade Spirit Stones, leaving him with only three for emergency situations.
"We are running out of funds." He mumbled with a frown marring his features.
Although Lin Xinyue's created talismans could be sold for a hefty sum, any disruption to the market would be heavily scrutinized. Even if he had presented a strong front before Chen Wei, Lin Fei wasn't sure he could back his promise.
"We need money, and we need strength." Lin Xinyue added.
After his last purchase he was left with over 1400 SP. If he wanted to complete the last stage of the Mortal Foundation Realm, he had to have the Dantian Forging Pill. But much like Meridian Washing Pill, it cost over 2000 SP.
"So, back to Elder Song?" Lin Fei contemplated.
Lin Xinyue, in her wispy form, shook her head. "You cannot meet her for the time being. While that woman might have been smitten by you, there's a chance that she might slip over the deep end."
Lin Fei paused and glanced at his mother. "What? You think she might lock me up in a dungeon or something?"
"I know I would've." She shrugged.
Lin Fei grimaced and shook his head. "Don't compare others to yourself, mother. And besides, the only threat she poses to me is if she got curious about my fast advancement."
"That's right." Lin Xinyue nodded. She put a finger on her chin in deep thought and, after a moment, said, "Fei'r, I think I might've thought of a good plan."
Lin Fei's eyes lit up. "Oh! What's that?"
"Well..." A sly look overtook her face as Lin Xinyue iterated the plot to him. Lin Fei listened with rapt attention and nodded from time to time.
"I think it would work."
"And if it does..." Lin Xinyue grinned. "You might just straight-up skip that servant whatever shit entirely."
Lin Fei shared her grin conspiratorially.
The walk back to his quarters allowed him to think about his plan.
Once home, and having satiated his hunger this time, Lin Fei decided to take a rare moment of rest. His enhanced body didn't require much, but his mental faculties had been running on frenzy.
Lin Fei tucked himself beneath the sheets and allowed himself to drift to the wonderland.
When the morning arrived, Lin Fei was already making his way toward the Treasure Hall.
He walked inside directly to the reception and requested 15 blank Talisman papers and a vial of ground beast blood-ink.
"The total would be 390 low-grade spirit stones." The receptionist informed him.
Lin Fei paused midway through withdrawing and looked down at the gathered items. He picked one paper and set it aside. "What about now?"
"370." The receptionist replied with a nonplussed face.
Lin Fei handed the three mid-grade spirit stones and his remaining contribution points and left with his purchase.
Back home, Lin Fei threw the items onto the bed and called for his mother. Lin Xinyue took a look at the small bundle of papers and then at her smiling son. She sighed and shook her head. "Not possible with this many."
Lin Fei's smile receded and a frown took its place. "Is it because you don't have a Spirit Flower this time?"
"That should be obvious."
"Shit!" He cursed and bit on his finger. "Maybe that was not the best economic management after all."
"It certainly wasn't." His mother agreed, much to his dismay. "However, since you ordered that guy to buy some Elemental Stones, I can use a few."
Lin Fei shook his head. "That's not the point. Your weakness is becoming a problem. Is there no other way for you to recover faster?"
Lin Xinyue put on a thoughtful expression. "There is." His eyes lit with hope. "If I channel the soul bond between you and me, then I can use your strength to fuel my abilities. Although it's not technically recovering, it would help avoid situations like this."
"But I don't have much strength right now." Lin Fei asked with a frown.
"That's why you've got to grow even faster." Lin Xinyue flashed a grin.
With nothing left to do, Lin Fei stashed the items away and decided to meditate. He focused on his understanding of Earth and Darkness and felt his comprehension deepening with each passing second.
Around mid-evening, he heard a knock on his door. He breathed out a murky breath of air and went to open the door.
"That was fast." Lin Fei complimented as he ushered the man inside.
Chen Wei nodded and handed him a hefty sack. "I tried to look for the variety but wasn't able to find much. In the end I brought 4 Fire Essence Stones, 6 Water Essence Stones, 7 Wind Essence Stones, 4 Darkness Essence Stones, and 9 Earth Essence Stones, for a total of 30."
Lin Fei gauged roughly the same amount and then shifted his gaze to four mid-grade spirit stones. He removed two and tossed them to Chen Wei.
"This will do for now." He said, watching as the man's expression spoke of his satisfaction. "But tomorrow you will lead me to this black market place you've been selling the Talisman at, got it?"
"Wait, wait! You want to visit the black market?" Chen Wei asked with a panicked voice.
"Why? Is that going to be a problem?" Lin Fei inquired.
"NO!" Chen Wei shook his head. "I mean, there's nothing wrong with that. I was just surprised."
Lin Fei nodded and opened the door again. Taking it as his cue to leave, Chen Wei quietly left the room.
"This much should be enough to finish those, right?" He asked, after closing the door.
"More than enough." Lin Xinyue answered.
