Kapitel 52: Chapter 52: Swordsmanship and Chakra Blade

"You... already know how to do it?"

Seeing Sasuke's serious expression, Kakashi smiled and shook his head lightly.

It made sense someone capable of creating his own jutsu wouldn't struggle with basic training like tree climbing and water walking.

If Sasuke couldn't handle those fundamentals, there's no way he'd have the skill to invent such fearsome techniques.

Still, learning swordsmanship wasn't out of the question.

Kakashi glanced at Naruto and Sakura. "I promised to guide you both through some basic training earlier. On our way back to the village, you'll begin practicing during our breaks."

"Sasuke has already mastered this, but you two can't fall too far behind!"

Looking at the sun's position in the sky, Kakashi decided there was still time.

"Let's take half a day to rest. Naruto, Sakura, you two can start working on tree climbing and water walking exercises."

As for Sasuke, Kakashi was curious about his sudden interest in swordsmanship.

"Since you've already mastered these basics, Sasuke, I'll have you guide Naruto and Sakura. Teaching others is also a form of training it'll help you reinforce what you've learned."

Sasuke nodded. The task was simple enough.

After finding a suitable spot to train, Sasuke began instructing Naruto and Sakura on how to climb trees and walk on water.

Using the same method from the original storyline, Sasuke's explanation was even more clear and straightforward.

Both Naruto and Sakura quickly grasped the basics.

The key, as Sasuke explained, was chakra control. By channeling chakra to their feet and using it to stick to surfaces, they could climb trees and eventually walk on water.

This skill was one of the most fundamental for any ninja.

After explaining the technique, Sasuke approached Kakashi.

Kakashi smirked, teasing Sasuke. "It seems like you've got a knack for teaching. You might make a great instructor one day."

"So, does that mean you're willing to teach me swordsmanship, Kakashi-sensei?"

Kakashi sat casually on a nearby rock, his gaze falling on Sasuke.

"Is it because of the fight with Zabuza that you want to start learning sword techniques?"

"You could say that," Sasuke replied.

"'Sort of?' Explain the exact reason," Kakashi prompted, curious.

Sasuke's reasoning had many layers. The real motivation, of course, was rooted in the fact that weapons play a pivotal role in ninja combat. Moreover, in the original timeline, Sasuke frequently employed techniques that incorporated a ninja sword.

His battle with Zabuza had also sparked a realization. When Sasuke tried to combine his Shinsoku (Godspeed) technique with Chidori, the result was immensely powerful. However, the extreme speed boost placed an overwhelming burden on Sasuke's body, making it unsustainable for now.

But what if he incorporated a ninja sword instead?

At such extraordinary speeds, Sasuke needed a way to deliver decisive, lethal strikes. This would maximize his combat effectiveness. Chidori, as a trump card, couldn't be used too frequently. However, pairing it with a ninja sword would provide a more consistent and practical solution.

Even though ninjas are highly skilled, they're still human. A solid blow from a hammer to the head would injure even the strongest, excluding a few exceptions. Even a Kage-level ninja like Hiruzen Sarutobi would bleed if slashed with a blade. Learning swordsmanship, therefore, seemed essential.

"In Godspeed mode, I'm incredibly fast, but I lack a way to deliver a fatal blow to my enemies," Sasuke explained. "During my fight with Zabuza, I couldn't help but think if I had mastered swordsmanship, defeating him would've been much easier."

Kakashi nodded in agreement. He had noticed this during their earlier battle.

Sasuke's self-created Shinsoku was undoubtedly a terrifying technique, but its offensive power wasn't strong enough against Zabuza. The technique only enhanced Sasuke's speed, not his strength. As a result, while Sasuke managed to hit Zabuza several times, none of the attacks were decisive enough to take him out of the fight.

If Sasuke had been wielding a proper ninja sword at the time, the outcome might have been entirely different.

Kunai, while useful, had a very limited attack range, which made them less effective in situations like this. In contrast, the longer reach of a ninja sword would reduce the chance of counterattacks from enemies, making it the perfect complement to Sasuke's Shinsoku.

"That's an excellent observation," Kakashi said with a smile. "I'm impressed that you've realized this on your own. As expected of a genius."

"Then, Kakashi-sensei, will you teach me swordsmanship?" Sasuke asked again, his tone determined.

Kakashi chuckled softly.

"What you need isn't just swordsmanship you'll also need a chakra blade."

"A regular ninja sword can enhance your attack power, but most ninjas' bodies are naturally protected by chakra. While their defensive capabilities aren't impenetrable, a standard blade won't always guarantee a fatal blow."

A chakra blade! Sasuke immediately understood what Kakashi meant. However, he was also well aware that crafting a chakra blade required rare materials that weren't easy to obtain. At the moment, he had no way of acquiring one.

For now, mastering swordsmanship was the priority.

"Swordsmanship and taijutsu aren't all that different in principle," Kakashi explained. "But true swordsmanship shines when combined with a chakra blade."

Sasuke paused, taken aback. This was news to him.

Still, as the son of the legendary White Fang of the Leaf, Kakashi had initially trained in swordsmanship himself. If he said so, it had to be true.

"Do you know why Zabuza's sword, the Kubikiribōchō (Executioner's Blade), is so special?" Kakashi asked.

Sasuke genuinely didn't know.

A sword that could only absorb enemies' blood to repair itself didn't seem particularly impressive. Compared to the other swords of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, the Kubikiribōchō seemed vastly inferior, almost unworthy of standing alongside the others.

"The Kubikiribōchō can absorb an enemy's blood to repair itself, yes but its abilities go beyond just self-repair," Kakashi explained.

"The more the sword is broken and then repaired, the harder and tougher it becomes. Additionally, the stronger the chakra contained in the blood it absorbs, the more significant the enhancement to its durability and sharpness.

"And most importantly, the Kubikiribōchō is immune to the effects of any chakra."

Hearing this, Sasuke suddenly remembered his battle with Zabuza. When Sasuke had used a Fire Release jutsu to attack, Zabuza had kicked the Kubikiribōchō toward him, and the blade had cut straight through the flames without being affected.

At the time, Sasuke hadn't given it much thought. But now that he reflected on it, the sword's immunity to chakra was undeniable.

No wonder the Kubikiribōchō was considered one of the Seven Ninja Swords.

"So," Kakashi continued, "a true ninja sword always has some degree of connection to chakra, one way or another."

Kakashi glanced at Sasuke, who seemed to be piecing it all together.

"Do you understand now? Swordsmanship is important, but having a powerful ninja sword is equally crucial.

"But did you know that all ninja swords start out as ordinary blades? While some are forged from special materials, the connection between a ninja sword and chakra is not something that exists naturally from the beginning."
