Kapitel 26: The Morning After

The sun was up, and the kitchen smelled of fresh coffee. Bianca stood by the counter, trying her best to act like everything was normal. She poured herself a steaming cup while Jason and Mason, still in their matching pajamas, spooned their oatmeal at the breakfast bar. Jason's PJs had a rocket pattern, while Mason's had dinosaurs—both slightly wrinkled from their restless sleep.

The oatmeal sat in their bowls, thick and lumpy, with a sprinkle of wheat germ on top. It looked as unappetizing as it sounded.

"Sorry about breakfast, boys," Bianca said, feigning a cheery tone. "It's the best I could do with Aunt Imelda's new diet rules." She pulled a face of exaggerated regret.

Mason grinned. "It might not be so bad if it came with a side of bacon."

Jason shook his head, frowning. "I don't think even that would help. Besides, Aunt Imelda threw out all the bacon. Remember?"
