"Stop the swarm of rats!"
Daniel and his team, realizing the gravity of the situation, raised their guns and fired continuously.
Bang! Bang!
One mutated rat after another fell to their bullets, but it wasn't enough—the sheer number of rats was overwhelming. Soon, the grotesque creatures broke through the defenses and scurried into the crowd.
Oddly, these rats didn't bite immediately. Instead, they darted further into the group of students, causing mass panic.
"Ah! Rats!"
Students screamed and jumped away in terror.
When the rats reached their targets, they sank their teeth into the students' legs.
Screams of agony echoed across the field as one student after another transformed into parasitic hosts, their eyes turning blood-red as they lunged at nearby classmates.
"Run! They've been infected!"
"Ah! More rats over here!"
Chaos erupted across the field. Frightened students collided with one another in their panic, making the situation even more chaotic.
Daniel's team fought desperately to contain the swarm of Chirami, but it was futile. The scene spiraled out of control, and worse, more parasitic hosts poured in through the school gates, surging toward the students like an unstoppable tide.
"It's over!"
Teacher Chen Yi, witnessing the chaos and the oncoming flood of Chirami hosts, muttered in a trembling voice.
Suddenly, a deafening roar came from the sky.
Startled, everyone looked up to see multiple Ironhead Mechas descending from above, landing heavily on the outer edges of the field.
Boom!
These Ironhead Mechas were far more advanced than the training models. Each was equipped with XS-01 heavy burst machine guns, massive mechanical blades, and portable flamethrowers. Their chests bore the emblem of a crimson wolf claw.
Then, a towering second-generation Ironwing Mecha, standing 10 meters tall and clad in thick gray alloy armor, descended from the sky, landing in front of the Ironheads. Its design included a pair of high-speed jet wings and a 30mm short-range cannon mounted on its shoulders. It wielded a gleaming alloy blade in one hand.
"It's the 13th District Garrison's Second Elite Heavy Assault Unit—Blood Wolves! We're saved!"
Despair turned into tears of hope as students shouted joyfully.
The Ironwing Mecha raised its alloy blade and pointed it toward the charging parasitic hosts. Its pilot, Captain Han Le, commanded in a cold, resolute voice,
"Team One, hold the line!"
"Understood!"
Twenty Ironheads immediately formed a defensive line, raising their weapons and unleashing a storm of bullets. The advancing Chirami hosts stood no chance, shredded to pieces by the relentless barrage.
"Captain Han, what about the chaos on the field? It's a total mess!"
Vice-Captain Sima frowned and asked anxiously.
Han Le glanced at the chaotic field and made a quick decision.
"Sima, take your team and dismount. Enter the crowd and eliminate the parasitic hosts as quickly as possible to restore order. The rest will stay with me and guard the perimeter. Don't let a single rat through!"
"Yes, Captain Han!"
Sima led his team as they dismounted their mechas and dashed into the crowd. All of them wore first-generation Iron Shell Exosuits, rendering them impervious to most Chirami attacks.
With their mechas too large and unwieldy to operate safely among the panicked crowd, dismounting was the only viable option. A misstep with such powerful machines could easily result in numerous unintended casualties.
Sima raised his beam gun and shouted as he advanced,
"Everyone, stay calm and spread out! We're here to help!"
Encouraged by the reinforcements, Chen Yi and Captain Daniel also joined the fray, rallying the students and assisting in clearing out the parasitic hosts.
Meanwhile, Su Ming and his two companions piloted their training mechas, escorting a group of students toward the field.
As they approached the chaotic scene, they stopped, stunned by what lay ahead.
Ming Ke swallowed nervously and said to Su Ming,
"Su Ming, you were right—the field's a disaster!"
"Hmph, how did Su Ming see this coming while everyone else missed it? Are they all brain-dead?"
Chen Tong muttered irritably.
"Don't be so harsh. The teachers did the best they could. With limited manpower, they had no choice but to gather everyone together to protect them," Su Ming replied calmly.
Chen Tong fell silent, reflecting on Su Ming's words.
"So what do we do now? It's too chaotic to jump in and help," Ming Ke said, his confidence in his piloting skills wavering. "If we make a mistake, we might hurt the uninfected."
Su Ming hesitated, unsure of their next move. Unlike the soldiers, they couldn't dismount their mechas to fight.
Clang! Clang!
The sound of more training mechas drew their attention. Teacher Tang Yan and Lin Chuyu had arrived with another group of students.
Tang Yan frowned as he surveyed the scene and turned to Su Ming's group.
"It's too chaotic. You three stay out of this. Take care of the students we've brought over and protect them."
"Understood!" Ming Ke replied immediately.
"Lin Chuyu, come with me to assist the rescue effort on the field's perimeter," Tang Yan instructed.
Lin Chuyu carefully piloted her mecha to follow Tang Yan toward the crowd.
Su Ming's group watched from a distance as Tang Yan and Lin Chuyu joined the rescue effort.
On the field's edge, Tang Yan and Lin Chuyu were on high alert, scanning for parasitic hosts among the students rushing toward them for help. Any infected individual they identified was swiftly grabbed by their mechas and crushed.
As time passed, order slowly began to return. Most of the parasitic hosts were eliminated.
"Keep it up!" Vice-Captain Sima shouted as he continued to fight off the Chirami, motivating those around him.
Finally, with everyone's combined efforts, the remaining parasitic hosts were eradicated, and the chaos subsided.
"Finally… it's over," Su Ming muttered as he exhaled deeply, watching the field calm down.
But just as relief washed over them, a thunderous crash shattered the moment.
A section of the field's right wall collapsed, and an overwhelming wave of grotesque rats and parasitic hosts surged into the school grounds.
Captain Han Le's expression darkened as he shouted,
"Quick! Follow me and block the breach!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Ironheads followed Han Le, charging toward the breach and unleashing their full firepower against the incoming Chirami.
Seeing this, Vice-Captain Sima barked at his team,
"Back to your mechas, now!"
They sprinted toward their machines, preparing for another fierce battle.
