Takumi thought he would have to wait for at least ten days, but he had underestimated the speed at which information spreads through internet satellites. Under the despair of the apocalypse, the gods descending to earth to save the world instantly became the only life-saving hope for people. Although the story felt cliché, it was also the most direct and effective.
"And now the fate of the whole world has changed," Takumi mused, touching his chin. "Have I actually fallen into some kind of inherent thinking?"
Previously, Takumi had subconsciously assumed that events would follow the anime plot, but reality didn't quite play out that way. For instance, the protagonist group had a different dynamic. Miyamoto Rei was not childhood sweethearts with the protagonist, nor did they end up on the rooftop because of some love triangle. Without this encounter, the chain of events that led to infection was disrupted.
Furthermore, Saya Takagi's father, the right-wing group leader, was bitten by his butler in the office, unlike the anime.
"Of course, my memory is based on a fixed animation storyline. In the real world, without the influence of gods, fate becomes chaotic," Takumi reflected. "It's this inherent chaos that allows technological civilizations to develop in low-energy worlds."
"We need at least one more day to fully annex this planet... But I don't feel like waiting even a day longer," he declared, golden eyes glowing slightly. "Let me give it a try."
The 'Human Realm Force System' was activated.
**The World of Highschool of the Dead**
It was evening, and a meteor shower illuminated the horizon, streaking across the sky with a speed that human spacecraft could not match. From time to time, one of the meteors would fall toward the earth.
**Offshore Port**
A special police officer, wearing a leather jacket, held a heavy sniper rifle while shooting at the dead bodies slowly pouring in from the port road bridge. Perched atop a high tower, she directed her officers using a walkie-talkie.
"There are at least hundreds of dead bodies breaching the southern barbed wire! Cover them with heavy firepower now! If the wire is completely destroyed, we will be overrun!"
"Yes, ma'am! But we're down to just a few officers. Most of our colleagues have already turned into dead bodies..."
Nan Rika gritted her teeth, spitting her cigarette butt on the ground. "Those damn politicians and the American military! If I get the chance, I'll blow their heads off myself!" she seethed, wondering if her ditzy friend, Shizuka Marikawa, was still alive.
"Sir! Meteor incoming in your direction—run!"
"What?"
Nan Rika instantly looked up, realizing that she had been so focused that she hadn't noticed the meteor streaking toward her. Her pupils shrank as she muttered, "Am I really this unlucky?" Her walkie-talkie slipped from her hand as she stared in shock.
Just as Nan Rika thought her fate was sealed, her vision was taken by a blinding white light. Once her sight returned, she realized that she was not dead. Instead, a magical glass-like orb was floating in front of her.
Before she could react, a gentle voice echoed in her ears:
"Mortals in the apocalypse, recall the purest wish in your heart. If your wish is righteous, the gaze of heaven will be upon you."
Nan Rika felt dizzy for a moment but quickly snapped back to attention. She remembered hearing about the existence of gods and the "Knights of Favonius" who had descended to save the world through the radio broadcasts.
"The purest wish? To be watched by the gods..."
She chuckled dryly. "Am I going to be chosen as a hero, like in the myths of Greek heroes?" Closing her eyes briefly, she recalled the innocent wish that had driven her to become a police officer:
"Of course, my wish is to eliminate all criminals in the world and eradicate anyone who destroys the happiness of others."
"The wish is righteous; take this power to save the world."
The 'Eye of God' instantly connected with Nan Rika and formed a contract with the 'Heavenly Principles.' She understood the Eye of God was a gift, but it also came with responsibilities. From now on, her life would be dedicated to fulfilling her wishes.
A flood of information rushed into her mind, revealing what this world truly was.
"The Original God... a candidate god chosen by heaven?"
She felt a surge of power, far beyond what she had experienced before. Her gun skills evolved into something unimaginable, like something out of a fighting game.
"Sir! Sir!" The walkie-talkie buzzed.
Nan Rika picked it up, speaking boldly, "Why are you shouting? I'm fine! Stay where you are—I'm coming to get you!"
With that, she jumped off the tower, firing her sniper rifle at the horde of dead bodies.
"Let's see what this can do!" she said.
The bullet, imbued with elemental power, exploded on impact, wiping out the dead bodies within a hundred-meter radius as if a heavy aviation bomb had detonated.
Meanwhile, the 'Eye of God' meteors continued to circle the earth. All over the world, people who carried a genuine wish to make the world a better place were visited by the 'Eyes of God.' However, only a handful truly received the 'Eye of God.'
Even if someone's wish was righteous, if it could easily be shaken, they were deemed unworthy. In the end, only around 400 individuals worldwide obtained the 'Eyes of God.' But for saving the world, 400 was more than enough.
This new 'Eye of God System' far surpassed the original. Simply possessing an Eye of God was enough to break societal norms and make headlines. This level of popularity was due to the world's low power level. In Teyvat, the impact might not be so pronounced, but here, these individuals were truly like gods among men.
Within a single day, the 'Eye of God' holders became saviors of the world. People came to recognize these "Original Gods" as candidate gods, beings chosen by heaven. They were hailed as gods.
High-ranking officials across nations lent their full support to the 'Original Gods' to help them save the world, even the United States, which had been involved in initiating the outbreak.
**Bed Host City**
Though dead bodies still roamed everywhere, the 'Knights of Favonius' and two 'Eye of God' holders had restored order. They were revered as saviors. Even if they executed evil individuals publicly, no one stood against them. They had overwhelming support.
**Sky Island**
Takumi smiled. "A higher world is truly a dimension-reducing strike against a lower one. In just a few hours, belief and influence reached 100%."
"Well then, let's begin the annexation. System, proceed."
"Bit! The annexation begins."
