Amelia sat by the window in the living room. The night outside was dark, the moon barely visible behind the thick clouds. She hugged her knees to her chest, her eyes darting to the clock on the wall every few minutes.
It was late. Too late. Enzo had been gone for hours, and her worry had grown into a knot in her stomach. She didn't know where he was or what he was doing. The silence in the house was heavy, making every creak and rustle sound louder than it should.
Her mind was spinning with thoughts. What if something had happened to him? What if he wasn't coming back? She didn't want to admit it, but she felt scared.
Amelia stood up and started pacing the room. Her hands wrung together as she tried to shake off the fear. She told herself over and over that he was fine, that he could handle himself. But it didn't help.
