Kapitel 152: Context

"Then it is certain that the crux of the matter lies here," Xiao Mu Yu said with an icy expression. "Since you have made arrangements based on the assumption that Jinx may have stolen information from the Security Corps, yet your efforts have yielded no results, there are only two possibilities."

"The first possibility is that Jinx is not affiliated with the Security Corps; she has neither stolen any information from them nor does she frequently visit, thus having no connection to the Security Corps whatsoever. This would render your efforts utterly futile," Xiao Mu Yu stated coldly.

"The second possibility is that Jinx is indeed within the Security Corps and is aware of the traps set for her, allowing her to evade your snares," he continued, his demeanor unyielding.

"The first hypothesis can be easily dismissed," Xiao Mu Yu asserted coldly. "Take the case of Baron Cleo, for instance. The case file concerning the young girl he brutally murdered is but a mere blip in the vast archives of the Security Corps. After all, the Security Corps only records missing persons, a document of such low priority that it is often buried under a mountain of paperwork within days."

"If Jinx were to visit the Security Corps only occasionally to steal information, it would be impossible for her to meticulously sift through all the case files accumulated since her last visit, let alone steal and replicate them," he remarked coldly. "Of course, you might argue—what if Jinx happened to arrive on the very day this document was recorded?"

"Ah... indeed, that is a highly plausible hypothesis," Xiao Mu Yu replied icily. "To counter this possibility, I discovered dozens of similar instances among the other case files, where seemingly low-priority cases led to significant ones... Such occurrences might be coincidences once or twice, but when faced with a multitude of coincidences simultaneously, I find it exceedingly difficult to believe they are mere chance."

"Moreover, Jinx's subsequent actions further corroborate my second hypothesis," Xiao Mu Yu stated coldly. "Upon reviewing Jinx's criminal activities over the past six months, I observed that her early actions predominantly targeted criminals documented by the Security Corps. However, as time progressed, her style underwent a drastic transformation."

"The most striking example is the recent incident involving Baron Cleo, where Jinx abandoned the criminals recorded by the Security Corps and utilized her investigative prowess to seek out those who had evaded even their notice," he continued coldly. "In the latter stages of her actions, aside from the truly heinous offenders, ordinary or first-time offenders, such as common rapists, have become increasingly rare among her victims."

"It is worth noting that in her initial phase, she was perceived as a vengeful executioner... or perhaps a harbinger of justice. Such behavior, which is almost tantamount to condoning evil, is difficult to reconcile with Jinx's character," Xiao Mu Yu remarked coldly. "What, then, has transpired? What has caused such a dramatic shift in Jinx's modus operandi?"

"If... I am not mistaken," he said, fixing his icy gaze on Ilt, "the change in Jinx's approach likely occurred after your traps set for her failed."

"In other words, Jinx deliberately employed this method to lull us into believing she had no connection to the Security Corps?" Ilt said with a wry smile. "It seems our entire search department has been outwitted."

"Precisely. Jinx has deliberately sent out a misleading signal—'I am not connected to you, Security Corps, as most of the criminals I judge are not even recorded by you; I have my own channels of investigation,'" Xiao Mu Yu stated coldly. "Thus, at this juncture, the matter becomes straightforward."

"Why would Jinx intentionally release such a misleading signal to misguide you?" he queried, casting a frigid glance around the room, his gaze landing on the female officer, Kaliya, who seemed poised to speak but was silenced by his chilling tone. "It's simple; she is not only connected to the Security Corps but is closely linked to it, making her easily discoverable. Hence, she needs to deliberately emit this erroneous signal."

Kaliya, feeling frustrated by the interruption, shot an annoyed glance at Xiao Mu Yu, only to find he was not even looking at her, leaving her feeling somewhat defeated.

"Given this, the first hypothesis is unequivocally refuted," Xiao Mu Yu declared, rubbing his forehead coldly.

"Since the first hypothesis has been debunked, we are left with only the second. At present... we can confidently assert that Jinx has a profound connection with the Security Corps," he continued, his icy gaze sweeping over the faces of those present. "Moreover, it is an exceptionally deep connection—so intimate that she can easily discern the traps laid out specifically for her."

At this point, Xiao Mu Yu fixed his cold gaze on Ilt's face. "Mr. Ilt, I trust that in your efforts to apprehend a criminal of Jinx's notoriety, the members of your elite search department would not have carelessly divulged the operation's plans beforehand?"

Meeting the steady gaze of the composed middle-aged man, Xiao Mu Yu continued coldly, "I would like to ask... Mr. Ilt, how many individuals were aware of the operation targeting Jinx?"

"Uh... if we are speaking of those who knew the specific details, it would only be a few colleagues from our search department," Ilt said, glancing at his fellow officers, a wry smile forming on his lips. "Additionally, there is Deputy Commander Chadok and Lady Cliff from the personnel department... However, if Jinx were among them, I find that exceedingly hard to believe."

"After all, Mr. Chadok and Lady Cliff have been my colleagues for decades, and I know them very well," Ilt continued with a bitter smile. "The colleagues in the search department are all capable team members with whom I have collaborated multiple times; it is simply difficult for me to accept the notion that Jinx could be among them."
