Feng Mo gave the order, and fifty stealth interstellar drones quietly launched from the belly of the T3 Sea Lion-class interstellar carrier. As soon as they made contact with the void of space, they vanished from sight. These were fifty cloaked self-destruct drones, silently maneuvering toward the enemy fleet, entirely unnoticed.
Controlled by Ai Er, the drones split into pairs, each pair targeting a T3-class enemy warship.
"T3-class stealth drones, self-destruct!" Ai Er commanded.
Upon hearing this, the fifty drones simultaneously detonated.
On the bridge of the T4 Lynx-class destroyer, Liang Guan observed as twenty-five of the energy signals from the first fleet's warships vanished in an instant. He hurriedly checked the holographic display.
He watched as twenty-five T3-class warships tried to raise their energy shields, only for two cloaked drones to appear beside each of them, lighting up in explosions that shattered the shields and obliterated the warships entirely.
The effectiveness was partly due to the depleted energy levels of these T3 shields; if they had been at full power, it would have taken at least five self-destruct drones to break through.
"Damn Feng Mo! How could he have such absurd weapons like cloaked self-destruct drones? Missiles, drones—everything he uses is outrageously expensive. What a show of wealth! T4 Lynx, target the enemy's T3 Storm-class battleship. Feng Mo must be on that ship. Fire the main and auxiliary cannons!"
On the bridge of the Storm, Feng Mo stared at the holographic display on the main console, a sea of red and green dots indicating the positions of enemy and allied warships. At the front of the fleet, only 120 red dots remained, with 43 marked as heavily damaged. The rest were grey, indicating destroyed vessels.
The grey dots represented the ruined ships, while the deep red indicated those that had taken severe damage. Out of the 300 warships in the Storm Alliance Fleet, one-third were already reduced to grey dots, including T2-class Black Bear ships and even one T3-class Mantis.
"Alert! Radar has detected energy weapons targeting the Storm. Energy shields activated at full capacity," a mechanical voice repeatedly warned in the Storm's main control room.
Against the energy blasts of a T4-class warship, intercepting or dodging was futile. The only option was to use the shields to absorb the impact. Even a T3 Mantis could withstand a direct hit from the T4 Lynx's main cannon; the Storm's more robust design should manage it as well.
Sure enough, a purple energy beam slammed into the Storm's shield, causing ripples of distortion. As the beam dissipated, four more beams struck in quick succession, shattering the shield completely. The energy blasts then punched through the ship's armor, sending the vessel careening sideways until it crashed into the energy shield of a nearby T3 Mantis, finally coming to a halt.
The control room was in chaos, alarms blaring red lights.
"Alert! Energy shields depleted and shattered!"
"Alert! Left hull breached in four locations. Sealing off nineteen adjacent compartments."
"Alert! Right hull breached in four locations. Sealing off twelve adjacent compartments."
The captain's chair, equipped with stabilization systems, kept Feng Mo from being thrown about by the impact.
What power! No wonder T4-class warships are feared. If not for the Storm's top-grade armor, this attack would have left the ship utterly crippled.
"Commander, are you hurt?" the Elf Queen anxiously asked, though Feng Mo had no time to respond.
"Commander, are you injured? How bad is the damage? Should we consider an emergency retreat?" Ai Er's frantic voice came over the video link. Seeing the Storm take a direct hit had made her extremely anxious.
"Ai Er, I'm fine. The Storm's energy core is intact, and all weapons are operational. Tell the two T3 Boxers to fire every missile they have. We have to return the favor and show them what real firepower looks like!"
After the T4 Lynx fired its salvo, its main and auxiliary cannons entered a cooldown phase. Although it was possible to force another round of firing, Liang Guan chose not to. To him, only the T4-class warship mattered; everything else was just expendable.
He also had a strategic reason: weakening the other fleets. The first and third fleets, composed mainly of Bi Xi warriors, along with Sara's and Mouse's forces, were bearing the brunt of the losses, while Liang Guan's own fleet had only T2-class warships.
As the overall commander, his strategies couldn't be faulted. The enemy had also taken losses, so even if their side was battered, Liang Guan's actions couldn't be criticized. He also considered that the three allied fleets might not make it through the battle, leaving him to inherit the spoils of the Storm Star System alone.
A pleasing thought, but only a fantasy. The Storm Fleet, upon hearing that the Storm had been hit, fought with renewed ferocity. Warships disregarded the cooldown periods of their main and auxiliary cannons, firing continuously.
The two T3 Boxers launched a thousand interstellar missiles, which screamed toward the enemy fleet, igniting the void with massive fireballs that consumed more red dots, turning them grey.
The already weakened enemy vanguard was annihilated. The remaining twenty T3-class warships, shields depleted and hulls battered, were swiftly finished off by a combined barrage from the Storm Fleet.
The vanguard was effectively obliterated. The T4 Lynx, now vulnerable, had already retreated to the center of the fleet.
"Ai Er, lead two T3 Mantises and ten T2 Black Bears to cover a T3 Boxer and unleash all its firepower. Once that's done, regroup!"
"Storm Fleet, advance! Ignore the enemy's rear formation. Target the T4 Lynx!"
Remember, the Storm's main gun is a T4-class turbo laser cannon, and it had already hit the Lynx once, though blocked by its shield. The repeated missile strikes and barrages from the fleet must have worn down that shield by now.
And Feng Mo wasn't out of tricks yet. Opening a secret communication channel with Chu Yunjian, he spoke bluntly: "Deploy the ambush fleet. It's time to end this."
Before the Storm Fleet set out, Feng Mo had held a half-hour confidential discussion with Chu Yunjian to arrange this ambush. The hidden fleet, a secret Chu family force, had been stationed in the Star Port, ready to strike. Feng Mo paid a steep price of one million star coins for this ace up his sleeve, but it was worth every coin.
On the bridge of the T4 Lynx, panic set in as a report came in: "Sir, an unidentified fleet has appeared behind us. 175 warships detected: fifty-five T3-class, one hundred and twenty T2-class, two interstellar carriers, two battleships, and one missile ship."
The bridge fell silent. This fleet's firepower was on par with the Storm Fleet's, and such a well-equipped force wasn't something that any ordinary family could field. Even Liang Guan, a se
cret agent of the Bai family, couldn't match that level of resources.
