"Long hair?"
Lu Fei's heart sank.
Guo Haitao's ghost had also mentioned long hair. Could it be that Su Liguo's daughter encountered the same entity?
Lu Fei followed Su Liguo upstairs.
Inside the room, a large group of people had gathered—family members, doctors, and nurses. The atmosphere was heavy, and everyone looked anxious and helpless.
"Liguo."
An elderly woman in a wheelchair turned to Su Liguo as soon as he entered. Tears welled in her eyes.
Behind her stood a middle-aged woman who exuded an air of elegance, clearly well-kept but equally distraught. She was likely Su Liguo's wife.
"Have you found someone? Xiaoxue hasn't woken up, and I'm afraid she..."
"Mother, Shopkeeper Lu is here," Su Liguo said, walking over to comfort her. "He's incredibly skilled. Xiaoxue will be fine."
"Good, good," the elderly woman said, glancing at Lu Fei. Though surprised by his youth, she didn't underestimate him—after all, he had saved their family just a month ago.
"Shopkeeper Lu, please help her."
Even Su Liguo's wife nodded earnestly.
"Don't worry. I'll do my best," Lu Fei said seriously. "First, let me examine Miss Su's condition."
The people around the bed moved aside to give Lu Fei space.
However, a few of the doctors looked skeptical, their gazes filled with doubt.
Ignoring them, Lu Fei approached the bed.
Su Ningxue lay on the soft mattress, her disheveled red hair spread out around her. She was covered in three layers of blankets but still shivering. Her pale face contorted in fear and pain, as if trapped in a nightmare.
Lu Fei reached out and placed the back of his hand on her forehead.
It was scorching hot!
"Xiaoxue's fever has reached 40°C (104°F). Medication and IVs haven't helped bring it down," Su Liguo said anxiously.
"We were notified by the police yesterday morning and found her pale and silent when we picked her up. She fell asleep immediately after coming home.
"We thought she was just in shock and let her rest. But by evening, she started burning up and talking nonsense.
"We called the doctors, but nothing worked. That's when I realized she might have encountered something... unclean in that supposedly haunted dormitory."
Lu Fei nodded. "Miss Su is indeed afflicted by something supernatural. Fortunately, it's not severe and can be resolved easily."
His calm statement drew incredulous looks from the doctors nearby.
"With your assurance, we can relax," Su Liguo said, visibly relieved.
The rest of the Su family also breathed easier.
"Shopkeeper Lu, please act quickly. I'm afraid the fever will damage her brain," the elderly woman pleaded.
"No problem, but..." Lu Fei glanced around. "There are too many people here. It will hinder the process."
"Understood." Su Liguo immediately motioned for everyone to leave.
Though some of the doctors seemed displeased, they complied out of respect for the Su family, leaving with their equipment.
Now, only Lu Fei, Su Liguo, and his wife remained in the room.
"Shopkeeper Lu, please proceed," Su Liguo said.
Lu Fei prepared a talisman-infused water by dissolving a symbol written for dispelling spirits. Handing the cup to Su Liguo's wife, he instructed, "Give this to Miss Su to drink."
"Alright."
The couple carefully sat beside their daughter. One gently supported her burning-hot body, while the other brought the cup to her cracked lips.
As Su Ningxue drank more than half the talisman water, she suddenly began to cough violently, her body shaking uncontrollably.
"Xiaoxue! What's wrong?"
Su Liguo's wife patted her back nervously.
Su Ningxue clawed at her throat, as though something was lodged inside. Her face twisted in agony before she let out a retching sound and vomited forcefully.
"What is this?!"
Her mother screamed, nearly fainting at the sight of what her daughter expelled.
A mass of long, black hair lay on the bed, glistening with mucus.
After vomiting the hair, Su Ningxue stopped coughing and collapsed onto the bed, gasping for breath, her forehead slick with sweat.
But the horror didn't end there. The clump of hair began to writhe as if alive. A strand extended toward Su Liguo's wife's ankle.
"Watch out!" Lu Fei shouted, stepping forward and throwing the burning talisman at the hair.
Whoosh!
The hair ignited instantly, writhing as it burned to ashes within moments.
"What... what is that thing?" Su Liguo's wife asked, trembling in fear but refusing to leave her daughter's side.
Su Liguo wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders. "It's over. Shopkeeper Lu has taken care of it."
"This was the spirit that had attached itself to Miss Su—likely something she brought back from the haunted dormitory," Lu Fei explained, still surprised that Su Ningxue had vomited the hair directly.
"Is this what she meant by 'long hair'?"
"How could such a thing end up inside my daughter?" Su Liguo's wife asked, horrified yet heartbroken for her child.
"Perhaps she consumed something while in that building," Lu Fei speculated.
At that moment, Su Ningxue's long lashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes.
"Hair... so much hair... save me!"
The moment she woke, she screamed in terror, curling into herself as if something was chasing her.
When her parents approached, her cries grew even louder.
"Xiaoxue! It's me, your mother! You're safe now. Look around—this is our home. Nothing will hurt you while we're here," her mother said gently, pulling her into a reassuring embrace.
Gradually, Su Ningxue calmed down. Seeing her mother, she burst into tears, clinging tightly to her.
"There, there. You're alright now," her mother whispered, stroking her trembling back.
Su Liguo watched his daughter finally regain consciousness and let out a deep sigh of relief.
Hearing the commotion, the elderly woman entered the room, accompanied by Su Mingxuan. "What happened to Xiaoxue? Is she alright?"
"Mother, she's awake now," Su Liguo said quickly.
"My precious Xiaoxue!" the old woman exclaimed, tears of joy welling up.
Outside, the doctors exchanged astonished glances, whispering amongst themselves about the miraculous young man in the room.
Once the family had settled, Lu Fei finally asked Su Ningxue about what had happened in the haunted dormitory.
"W-we..." Su Ningxue began, trembling as she huddled closer to her mother. "We were just playing a game."
"A game?"
"The... Four Corners Game... At first, everything was fine. But then, I felt like... like someone was standing behind me..."
