Kapitel 11: Gwen Is Filled With Happiness!
"It's all Evan's doing. I didn't do anything," Peter said casually, clearly open about his buddy's influence. "By the way, Ned, where'd you go just now?"
"There's this girl named Cindy Moon. She's beautiful, and her skin tone totally matches mine," Ned said, spreading his hands helplessly. "But she seemed in a bad mood and totally ignored me."
"Oh, and Peter do you know? She's like an angel!" Ned sighed dreamily. "In my heart, she's right up there with Spider-Woman!"
"Come on, Ned. That's what you said last time when you saw Betty."
As they chatted, the stage curtains suddenly drew closed, and the lively, buzzing crowd fell silent with a few confused voices murmuring.
"What's happening?"
"Why're they pulling the curtain? The party just got going!"
"Is this the grand finale?"
"Quiet, quiet!" Harry's voice came over the mic as he stepped onto the stage. "Up next is the MJ band!"
"Betty and the others are on? Yes!"
"Oh, go Mary Jane!"
"Will Gwen be there too? I haven't seen her yet, so maybe she didn't come?"
"Jessica! Jessica!"
The audience erupted into cheers, shouting the names of their favorite members. The Mary Janes were extremely popular at school, especially Jessica, whose cool, confident personality had won her both male and female fans.
But when the curtains opened, instead of the band, a very handsome young man stood there with an electric guitar in hand, smiling with a charm that made the teenage girls in the crowd swoon.
A short-haired girl asked in confusion, "Who's that? Where's my Jessica?"
Another girl next to her grinned. "He's gorgeous! Go, handsome!"
The short-haired girl, however, stood firm. "Skye, I'll admit he's cute, but I'm still waiting for Jessica. I'm not switching teams!"
The crowd buzzed with chatter.
"I think I saw him earlier, heading to the second floor with a huge stick."
"Oh, that's Mr. Evan Li! He's taught a few art classes here."
"Right, he has a doctorate in art! And he's so young!"
"Freshmen, I get, but what about you seniors? How can you not know?"
Backstage, Gwen, dressed in her cosplay suit, wore a conflicted expression. How did things end up like this? Her emotions were like a tangled web of nerves, happiness, and surprise. Her friends, classmates, and even Evan were all so supportive.
"Gwen, snap out of it! Get ready!" Jessica said, adjusting Gwen's hood. "Big bro's out there buying us time. They say artists are tone-deaf—no clue if he can even play!"
Back onstage, the girls were cheering, "Play another song, handsome!"
The boys joined in, applauding and calling for an encore.
Evan flashed an OK sign. "Thanks for the invitation, everyone. Here's another one for you—this one's called Until The End!"
Just as the audience grew excited, the curtain fell once more, catching everyone off guard.
When it opened again, several girls, each wielding an instrument, appeared around Evan, striking fierce poses that made him the center of attention. Jessica, Mary Jane Watson, Betty Brant, Glory Grant, and the rest of the band members all looked like they were ready to rock.
"My god, this is awesome!" Ned cheered, starstruck.
"Evan really is amazing," Peter said, raising his camera to capture the moment. But he quickly noticed something. "Wait, where's Gwen? She's supposed to be the drummer."
Jessica stepped forward confidently, her voice echoing through the crowd. "Good evening, everyone! I know you're excited for the show, but before we start, I have a very important announcement to make—one that's the highlight of tonight's party!"
Someone in the crowd shouted, "Jessica! Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Hey, shut it, dude!" came another voice.
Jessica raised a hand, striking a cool pose as a large poster unfurled beside the stage. "What I want to announce is… I'm starting a Ghost-Spider fan club! Everyone's welcome to join!"
"A Ghost-Spider fan club? This is awesome!"
"Jessica's a Ghost-Spider fan too?"
The crowd burst with excitement. Ghost-Spider was a favorite among young superhero fans, especially with her iconic look and badass style.
Jessica grinned. "And now, the show begins!"
Evan started to play, singing the opening lines, "It starts with one… something from beginning to end…"
After a few verses, the lights on stage suddenly shifted, focusing on the drum kit—where Ghost-Spider herself was revealed, bringing in a powerful beat that brought the song to life.
"I can't believe it! Ghost-Spider!" someone screamed as the audience erupted in cheers.
Gwen, smiling under her mask, felt a warmth fill her heart. At that moment, all her lingering worries disappeared.
