As Orochimaru stood outside Tsunade's courtyard, he found himself unable to take another step. His mind was tangled with thoughts of Reiki. Would introducing Reiki to Uchiha Madara put him in danger?
Despite his reputation, Orochimaru had moments of caution, particularly where it concerned people who could be beneficial to him in the future. Reiki had healed him and demonstrated potential that Orochimaru might need. If something were to happen to Reiki, it would be a significant setback for Orochimaru. These conflicted thoughts held him in place, even if he himself didn't fully understand why.
"Lord Orochimaru, since you're here, why not come in and have a seat?"
The sudden voice broke his thoughts. The courtyard door had opened, and Reiki stood there, a welcoming smile on his face.
Reiki had sensed Orochimaru's presence the moment he approached. Although Orochimaru appeared troubled, Reiki chose not to act immediately. Orochimaru often had physical issues due to his experiments, so it wasn't unusual. But when Orochimaru hesitated outside, Reiki decided to open the door.
"Reiki... good morning," Orochimaru managed, feeling slightly awkward.
"Come in," Reiki repeated, and Orochimaru stepped inside.
The courtyard was quiet. Yuhi Kurenai and Kato Shizune were still asleep, taking advantage of the early morning. Reiki prepared tea and set up a barrier to ensure they wouldn't be disturbed. They were young and needed their rest.
"Lord Orochimaru, you must be here for a reason. If it's about your health, there's no need to worry. It's manageable," Reiki said, placing a cup of tea in front of him.
"I know," Orochimaru replied, taking a sip. "But I'm here about someone else."
"Someone else?" Reiki raised an eyebrow. The situation intrigued him. Given his reputation and medical skills, if someone in the village required attention, he would already be aware. This suggested that the person Orochimaru spoke of was from outside Konoha.
"It's not an ordinary person," Orochimaru admitted, pausing. "I'm hesitant because treating them might lead to unpredictable consequences."
Reiki's curiosity deepened. "Who could this be?"
Orochimaru looked at Reiki and said, "Do you know Uchiha Madara?"
Reiki's eyes widened, and he stood abruptly. Uchiha Madara—the name alone commanded awe and fear. Known as one of the most formidable shinobi in history, Madara had been on Reiki's mind. He had wondered about Madara's whereabouts, especially considering his advanced age and the likelihood that he was searching for a successor. Yet, with Reiki's presence, Obito had never gone down the same dark path.
"Seeing your reaction, you know who he is," Orochimaru said. "It's your decision whether to go or not. If you refuse, I'll turn down the request."
Orochimaru's mind raced. If Reiki refused, Madara might view him as an obstacle. And with Madara's strength, even weakened, Reiki would be in grave danger.
"Refuse? Why would I refuse?" Reiki's eyes lit up with excitement. "This is a rare opportunity!"
Orochimaru stared, stunned. Most would hesitate, even tremble, at the thought of facing Madara. But not Reiki. Did he not understand what Uchiha Madara represented?
"Lord Orochimaru, when do we leave?" Reiki asked, bringing Orochimaru out of his daze.
"Hey, wait… Reiki, do you really understand who Uchiha Madara is?" Orochimaru began, but Reiki interrupted with a nod.
"I know," Reiki confirmed and began detailing what he knew about Madara. Orochimaru's surprise deepened as Reiki's knowledge matched his own, even going into details few were aware of. Reiki was fully aware and still eager, a testament to his readiness.
"I see," Orochimaru said, regaining composure. "Although my condition is relatively stable, I'd appreciate your treatment."
"Of course," Reiki agreed and proceeded with the treatment, which took little time due to the recent adjustments.
"I'll come for you tonight," Orochimaru said as he finished his tea and stood to leave. "Use this time to prepare."
As Orochimaru turned to leave the courtyard, he came face to face with Jiraiya, who was just arriving.
"Orochimaru?!" Jiraiya's voice was a mix of surprise and suspicion.
