Kapitel 14: Hecate's Magic Class

Chapter - 14

Hecate's magic class started much like Athena's the day before. After calling the room to attention, she wasted no time diving into the complexities of magic, her voice calm but commanding.

"As you all know," Hecate began, sweeping her gaze across the room, "Iridium is the source of all magical energy in this world. It is both within you and around you. For today's lesson, we will focus on the internal flow of Iridium—how it moves through your body and how it is activated to cast spells or perform magical feats."

I sat up a little straighter, trying to focus more intently this time. After what happened with Athena yesterday, I wasn't about to get caught zoning out again. Hecate's eyes were sharp, even more so than Athena's, and she gave off a vibe that made me think her reprimands would sting far worse. I nodded along with the rest of the class, trying my best to look attentive.

"Think of Iridium as a second type of blood," she continued. "Iridium flows through specific channels in your body. These channels aren't physical, like veins, but are more akin to invisible pathways—spiritual conduits that carry your magical energy to where it is needed."

Iridium flow was like blood flow. That analogy actually helped. I could picture it in my mind, imagining the invisible pathways coursing through me, like an additional bloodstream but meant for magic instead of life-sustaining oxygen. I was no expert on magic, but I understood basic human anatomy thanks to the modern education I'd gotten back on my version of Earth.

As I glanced at the others, I noticed that many of them were frowning in confusion, clearly struggling to follow along. These guys probably hadn't been exposed to the same kind of structured education I had. Where I came from, learning about things like biology, physics, and anatomy was standard. But here? Who knew what kind of patchwork knowledge these kids had.

"When you cast a spell or use a magical skill, you're directing this flow of Iridium to a specific point in your body, usually your hands or mouth—depending on how the spell is activated. The act of casting forces the Iridium out of your body in a controlled manner, shaping it into the form of the spell. The more complex or powerful the spell, the more Iridium it requires."

She paused, her gaze shifting to the students with a hint of expectation. "This is why practice is essential. The more you practice channeling Iridium for a particular spell, the more efficient your flow becomes. Over time, you will use less Iridium for the same spell, as your mastery increases. Your body becomes accustomed to the flow, reducing waste, and making each spell cast smoother and quicker."

I tried to stay focused. It wasn't that the information was boring per se, but I could feel my attention slipping. So, I kept nodding along with her explanation. I'd just fake it till I made it—maybe that would get me through this class without incident.

Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, about two hours in, my mind was at its limit. Hecate's voice became background noise, a droning hum that I couldn't focus on no matter how hard I tried. I glanced around, everyone else were taking notesd, scribbling down every word Hecate said.

Opening my notebook, I started pretending to take diligent notes. I picked up my pen and began to scribble aimlessly in the margins of the page. At first, I wrote a few key phrases Hecate had mentioned. But that didn't last long. Soon, my scribbling turned into doodling. Boredom had officially set in.

I jotted down the first thing that came to mind: 'If magic spells are cast with fancy words, couldn't I technically make one called "Please" and just be really polite while destroying someone?'

I smirked at the thought. Imagine someone casting a devastating attack with the word "Please" as the trigger. Manners might go a long way here if that worked.

'Potions exist in this world. Do potions expire? Like, is there some ancient wizard out there accidentally drinking a centuries-old health potion and just getting really, really bad food poisoning?'

I almost chuckled aloud but caught myself just in time. I was in a class full of prodigies, and here I was, doodling absurd thoughts in the margins of my notebook.
