The following morning arrived with a dense layer of fog rolling over the training grounds, the air thick with anticipation. Ei stood at the edge of the river, her breath forming small clouds in the crisp air. She had hardly slept the night before, her mind racing with thoughts of the Lightning Chakra Mode and the new challenges ahead. Today, she would learn to wield her father's technique in battle, pushing her control to its very limits.
She didn't have to wait long. Her father, the 3rd Raikage, appeared as the fog began to lift, his towering frame cutting through the mist. His presence alone was a reminder of the immense strength she would one day need to surpass.
"You're ready," he stated, his voice devoid of any question. He never asked if she was prepared because in Kumogakure, there was no room for hesitation or weakness. "Today, we move from theory to practice. Activate your Lightning Chakra Mode."
Ei's heart pounded as she took a steadying breath. She had practiced activating the mode the previous day, but doing so in battle would be an entirely different challenge. She clenched her fists, focusing on the chakra within her, and with a single breath, she let it flow through her body.
Lightning surged, enveloping her in a radiant cloak of energy. The air hummed with power as her chakra enhanced her speed and strength, but this time, there was no pause, no time to admire the technique. Her father's voice cut through the crackle of electricity.
"Come."
Without warning, he charged forward.
The ground shook beneath the force of his step, but Ei was ready. She leapt back with blinding speed, her body moving instinctively as the lightning chakra enhanced her reflexes. Her father's fist grazed the air where she had been standing just moments ago, the sheer force of his attack sending a shockwave through the training ground.
Ei barely had time to recover before the Raikage attacked again, faster and more ferocious than before. His movements were a blur, his strikes relentless and precise. But Ei's training had prepared her for this. She sidestepped, ducked, and blocked, each movement powered by the crackling energy surrounding her.
She could feel the difference in her body. The Lightning Chakra Mode had sharpened her reflexes to a degree she hadn't thought possible. Her limbs felt lighter, her reactions faster, but her father's overwhelming strength was still a challenge she had to overcome.
*Focus,* she reminded herself, her mind racing. She couldn't just evade. She had to strike.
With a sharp pivot, Ei darted around her father's side, her lightning-clad fist aiming for his torso. But just as her punch connected, she felt the unmistakable resistance of his iron defense. Her father's body was like a wall of steel, unmoving even as her attack landed.
Her eyes widened in realization. The Lightning Chakra Mode wasn't enough on its own. She needed more than speed and power to defeat her father. She needed precision.
But before she could adjust her strategy, her father's massive hand caught her wrist, pulling her forward with an overwhelming force. Ei gasped as she was thrown across the field, her body hitting the ground with a thud. The lightning cloak flickered for a moment, but she forced it to stabilize, pushing herself back to her feet.
"Is this all you've learned?" the Raikage's voice boomed, his tone sharp but not cruel. It was a challenge—a reminder that she still had a long way to go.
Ei's jaw clenched. She wouldn't back down. Not here, not now. She knew she had more inside her, a deeper well of power that she hadn't fully tapped into yet. And now was the time to unleash it.
Her fingers curled into fists as she summoned more chakra, letting it flood her system. The lightning around her intensified, growing brighter and sharper. The ground beneath her feet began to crack from the sheer pressure of her chakra.
This time, she didn't wait for her father to attack. With a burst of speed, Ei charged forward, her body a blur of motion as she closed the distance between them in an instant. Her fist, crackling with lightning, aimed straight for his chest.
But as expected, her father blocked the attack, his iron-like body unmoved by the force of her punch. However, Ei had anticipated this. The moment her fist connected, she shifted her stance, twisting her body to deliver a sharp kick to his side. The sudden change in direction caught the Raikage off guard, and this time, her strike landed with enough force to make him slide back a few inches.
It wasn't much, but it was progress.
Her father's eyes glinted with approval, though he said nothing. Instead, he launched into a flurry of attacks, each one faster and stronger than the last. Ei met him blow for blow, her movements fluid and precise as she adapted to his relentless assault.
For what felt like hours, they clashed—lightning against lightning, strength against strength. Every time Ei thought she was gaining the upper hand, her father would push her further, forcing her to dig deeper into her reserves of chakra and skill.
But Ei didn't waver. She refused to give up.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, her father stepped back, his body still crackling with residual lightning. "Enough."
Ei stopped, her chest heaving from exertion, her body drenched in sweat despite the cool morning air. The lightning cloak around her flickered and then dissipated, leaving her standing on trembling legs. She had held her own, but barely. Her father was a force of nature, and fighting him felt like battling a mountain.
The Raikage regarded her with his usual stern expression, but there was a glint of pride in his eyes. "You've done well," he said, his voice softer than usual. "But you're still not ready."
Ei nodded, though she felt a flicker of frustration deep inside her. She had given everything she had, and yet it still wasn't enough. But she knew better than to question her father's judgment. He had seen more battles than she could count, and his standards were impossibly high for a reason.
"You have the power," the Raikage continued, his gaze intense. "But power without control is nothing. You need to learn how to use it effectively in every situation. Only then will you be worthy of wielding the full strength of the Lightning Chakra Mode."
Ei met his gaze, her resolve hardening. She understood what he was saying. The Lightning Chakra Mode was a tool, a weapon, but it was up to her to master it, to make it an extension of herself. She couldn't rely on raw power alone.
Her father's next words were unexpected. "Tomorrow, we begin a new phase of your training."
Ei raised an eyebrow, surprised. "A new phase?"
The Raikage nodded. "You've proven your ability to use the Lightning Chakra Mode. Now, it's time to refine your techniques. You need to learn to fight with precision, to strike at the right moment. And for that, you will need more than just brute strength."
Ei's mind raced as she considered his words. What could be next? What would her father teach her now that she had begun to master the Lightning Chakra Mode?
As if reading her thoughts, her father turned to face the horizon. "Tomorrow, you will begin training with Yae."
Ei's eyes widened in surprise. Her summoning beast, Yae, was a powerful fox with mastery over illusions and lightning sage techniques. She had only summoned Yae a handful of times in the past, and their bond was still growing. Training with her would be a completely different experience from sparring with her father.
The Raikage glanced back at her, a rare smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "You're strong, Ei. But strength alone isn't enough to lead Kumogakure. You must become something more—something greater."
Ei stood in stunned silence as her father turned and walked away, his words echoing in her mind. *Something more.*
She wasn't just training to become the strongest. She was training to become the next Raikage.
