Leng Rongrong cautiously peered out, tentatively glancing beneath the bed.
Mo Linyuan lay on the floor, motionless, staring at her. "I... am your husband..."
Leng Rongrong: "..."
At least he was not dead.
Once she steadied her nerves, Leng Rongrong suddenly widened her eyes at Mo Linyuan. Wasn't it said that Mo Linyuan was hideously ugly?
But wait, could this man truly be Mo Linyuan?
He was surprisingly... attractive.
His lips were a luscious shade of red, his teeth gleamed white, and though his complexion was somewhat pale, his features were striking. Clad in a deep blue nightgown, the slightly open collar revealed a handsome neck and chest.
He wasn't terrifyingly gaunt, nor was he hideously disfigured. In fact, his looks surpassed even those of her three exceptionally handsome godfathers.
Even the most popular celebrities of the moment would likely pale in comparison to Mo Linyuan's striking visage.
What celestial beauty was this?
Leng Rongrong, who had always been captivated by good looks, was momentarily stunned. She had initially thought that since the groom was a cripple, she could easily disregard him; the marriage was merely a practical arrangement.
But upon seeing Mo Linyuan's face, she felt an immediate sense of injustice. If she couldn't cure him, it would be a dreadful waste of such a masterpiece.
"Um, are you alright?" Leng Rongrong leaned over the bed, looking at Mo Linyuan on the floor.
"Not particularly well," Mo Linyuan's voice was deep and magnetic, cold yet inexplicably soothing to the ears.
"I'm sorry... I didn't react quickly enough!"
After jumping off the bed, Leng Rongrong swiftly scooped Mo Linyuan up and placed him back on the bed.
Mo Linyuan: "???"
Had he just been carried by a woman?
Leng Rongrong: "..."
Wasn't he supposed to be a cripple, frail and weak? Why was he so heavy!
After getting up, Leng Rongrong entered the bathroom to freshen up, emerging a short while later.
She glanced at Mo Linyuan on the bed, strode over, and grasped his wrist, beginning to check his pulse.
Mo Linyuan lay still, watching her intently.
Leng Rongrong remained silent, her brow slightly furrowing.
Mo Linyuan's pulse was peculiar, not aligning with what one would expect from a patient with severe paralysis.
After observing for a while, Leng Rongrong felt she could discern nothing...
Her lips twitched slightly—had she truly wasted all those years learning traditional Chinese medicine from her master if she couldn't identify a single issue?
She looked at Mo Linyuan's legs again.
His legs certainly didn't appear to be those of someone crippled for years; they were muscular, showing surprising tone.
Leng Rongrong: "???"
Was she certain this man was disabled?
Nothing about him seemed to suggest that!
"What are you doing?" Mo Linyuan's cold voice came from the bed.
"I'm examining your condition... I've studied a bit of traditional Chinese medicine, so perhaps I can be of help. However, your leg muscles are quite developed."
After not walking for years, shouldn't the muscles have atrophied?
But his situation was unusual; not only had his muscles not withered, they looked firmer than those of many healthy individuals.
"Someone exercises them for me every day. Is that strange?" Mo Linyuan's tone remained icy, his narrow eyes narrowing slightly as he regarded her.
So, was she sent by those people to confirm his condition?
"It is a bit odd, but perhaps that's the reason," Leng Rongrong mused for a moment, then glanced at Mo Linyuan. "Oh, right, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Leng Rongrong, and I suppose I'm your wife now. Since we'll be living under the same roof, it's best we get acquainted."
Mo Linyuan: "..."
Leng Rongrong: "..."
Why did she feel as if he had just rolled his eyes at her, looking down upon her?
What right did a cripple have to dismiss her?
Whatever...
She wouldn't stoop to quarreling with a cripple, especially one as handsome as him.
"Do you need me to help you into the wheelchair?" After observing Mo Linyuan for a moment, Leng Rongrong hesitated before asking. After all, he was her husband in name, and they would be living together for the time being. Given his godlike looks, offering assistance wasn't too much trouble.
Mo Linyuan: "..."
Without further ado, Leng Rongrong lifted Mo Linyuan and placed him in the wheelchair.
"Are you incredibly strong?" Mo Linyuan's head throbbed as he was once again carried like a princess. He had seen strong women before, but never one quite like this.
Though he feigned being crippled and appeared thin, he was, in fact, very healthy and of standard weight.
A man naturally weighs more than a woman, and standing at nearly six-foot-two, he towered over her. This woman, who was around five-foot-seven with slim, delicate arms, effortlessly lifted him.
"Oh, I manage. I exercise regularly; lifting around 200 pounds isn't too difficult," Leng Rongrong said casually.
Just as she pondered whether to assist Mo Linyuan with washing up or changing clothes, a knock sounded at the door.
"Fourth Young Master, Fourth Young Madam, are you awake?"
"We're awake. What's the matter?"
Leng Rongrong called out.
"We're here to assist the young master in getting up."
Hearing this, Leng Rongrong felt a wave of relief. She rushed to the door and flung it open. "Come in, come in! Why didn't you come sooner? I've been moving him around, and he's quite heavy!"
"Leave!" Mo Linyuan commanded coldly as the two servants entered.
The two servants froze in shock.
"Why are you sending them away? Aren't they here to help you?" Leng Rongrong raised an eyebrow at Mo Linyuan.
"Why would I need them when I have a wife? From today onward, she will take care of me," Mo Linyuan replied, his piercing gaze locked onto her.
Leng Rongrong: "???"
Seriously?!
Was getting married merely an excuse for him to be pampered?
If he thought he could intimidate her, he was sorely mistaken!
As she silently cursed him in her heart, her gaze returned to Mo Linyuan's face. Once she caught sight of that celestial beauty, her anger dissipated instantly.
That face... was too exquisite to remain angry at.
Though it was tragic that he was crippled, his divine looks were certainly a gift from the heavens.
Fine, fine. She'd let it go. After all, patients often have bad tempers. She would endure it.
Besides, she held no grudge against Mo Linyuan. She had been forced into this marriage by her stepmother's family...
If she eventually decided to leave, it would hardly be fair for Mo Linyuan to remain without a wife.
So for now, she would take care of him.
After dismissing the servants, Leng Rongrong obediently assisted Mo Linyuan in washing up and changing clothes.
Half an hour later, she wheeled him downstairs.
The Mo family's grand hall had already been meticulously cleaned. There was no trace of yesterday's banquet, though the red "double happiness" decorations still hung, a testament to the wedding ceremony in which the bride and groom had not participated.
In the hall, Old Master Lu was beaming, clearly in high spirits.
Several uncles, aunts, and elders had gathered as well, arriving early in the morning.
Leng Rongrong had just descended the stairs when her stomach growled with hunger. Smiling sweetly at the unfamiliar faces, she turned to Old Master Lu and asked, "Grandfather, I'm starving. Is breakfast ready?"
"Hah, how utterly lacking in manners!"
Before the old master could respond, a voice laced with sarcasm rang out from the side.
Leng Rongrong: "???"
Was it impolite to ask for breakfast when hungry?
Who made such a rule?
"On your first morning after the wedding, sleeping in until midday might be excused, but to awaken without offering tea to the elders, and demand breakfast without so much as lifting a finger? What kind of new bride is this? Coming to the Mo family, are
you merely here to be waited on?"
The harsh voice echoed once more.
