Faced with the unknown, Evan decided to wait cautiously.
If the diary was delivered to someone by Lucius, then the Chamber of Secrets should have been opened.
Evan recalls that the first attack was on Halloween.
On Halloween, he intended to stay with Ginny to watch over her or to see if anyone else was acting suspiciously, but Hermione disagreed; she wanted Evan to go with them to Nearly Headless Nick's birthday party.
"Hermione, I'm feeling unwell, so let me stay in the land of the living. Besides, I need to write the article about the Halloween party for next week's headline."
"You haven't been sick since Tuesday, Evan!" Hermione said, shaking her head, refusing to let Evan stay. "The article can be delivered to Colin and Ginny, Nearly Headless Nick has already helped us with news gathering, so we cannot miss tonight."
"But Dumbledore booked a group of dancing skeletons for entertainment," Harry said hesitantly, as neither he nor Ron wanted to attend Nearly Headless Nick's birthday party.
Hermione turned to Harry, reminding him, "You and Ron promised Nearly Headless Nick that you would attend his birthday party."
So at seven o'clock in the evening, the four passed through the door leading to the Great Hall. There were numerous decorations, candles, and golden plates on the table, which was very tempting, but instead of going to the party, they headed towards the dungeons.
Although they were on their way to potions class, especially that night, it was eerie.
Some candles lined the hallway, but the effect was not grandiose as the thin candles burned a very faint blue, giving them a gloomy look.
With each step the four took, the temperature dropped.
This caused Evan to sneeze and wrap himself tighter in his clothes.
Soon they heard a sound like a thousand nails scratching on a chalkboard.
"What is that sound?" said the terrified Ron.
"I think it's music," Harry whispered.
They turned a corner and immediately saw Nearly Headless Nick standing beside the door.
"My dear friends," said Nick, "I'm delighted that you've come, welcome, welcome."
He took off his hat and bowed slightly, inviting them in.
The sight was incredible, the Dungeon was filled with hundreds of translucent figures, most of them dancing on the crowded dance floor, swaying to the horrendous sounds of the musical saws, the orchestra playing on a raised platform covered in black.
The chandelier had thousands of lit candles emitting a magnificent glow.
Evan could see his breath; it was as if he was in a freezer.
"Well, what shall we do now?"
"Let's observe first!" suggested Harry.
"Be careful not to bump into anyone," Ron said nervously.
They walked carefully around the edge of the dance floor, seeing a group of mournful nuns, a ragged man with chains, and the Fat Friar.
Then they encountered the Bloody Baron, a Slytherin ghost with expressionless eyes, a gaunt face, and robes stained with silver blood. No one dared to approach him, so the other ghosts gave him enough space to be alone.
"Oh no," Hermione said, "Quickly turn around, I don't want to talk to Moaning Myrtle!"
"Who?" whispered Harry.
"She's a ghost haunting one of the girls' bathrooms," Hermione replied.
"Haunting the bathroom?"
"Yes, that's why the bathroom is always out of order, as she keeps flooding it. As long as we can avoid..."
Hermione's heart sank as she saw Evan heading towards Myrtle.
"What is he doing?"
"Who knows, perhaps Myrtle is Evan's type," said Ron with a wide smile, "haha, this is quite the news."
Hermione glared at Ron and then the three quickly followed Evan.
Given that the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is in the bathroom where Moaning Myrtle resides, Evan wanted to ask her if she had seen anyone peculiar enter lately.
Currently, the whereabouts of Tom Riddle's diary are unknown, so no clues should be overlooked.
Before Evan had the chance to speak to Moaning Myrtle, he saw a being with an orange jester's cap, pale skin, black hair, and black eyes appear before him.
"Care for some, little fishies?" said Peeves as he offered a bowl of musty peanuts.
"Thank you, but no," Evan quickly replied, declining the offer.
"I just overheard you talking about poor Moaning Myrtle, that's rude!"
Peeves took a deep breath and shouted, "Hey, Myrtle!"
"Peeves, please, don't tell her what I said, it will upset her greatly," said Hermione, who was standing beside Evan. She hurriedly whispered, "I was just joking..."
Her words were cut short when she saw Moaning Myrtle floating closer and closer.
Moaning Myrtle's expression was filled with the greatest melancholy and sadness Evan had ever seen.
"What?" asked Moaning Myrtle with a forlorn face.
"Hello, Myrtle, it's nice to see you out of the bathroom," said Hermione in a charming voice.
"Miss Granger was just talking about you," Peeves said slyly.
"We were saying you looked very beautiful tonight," Hermione said, shooting a glare at Peeves.
"They were making fun of you."
Moaning Myrtle looked at Hermione suspiciously, but then tears began to flow from her glassy eyes.
"No, really, didn't I just say Myrtle looked beautiful?" Hermione said, nudging Harry and Ron.
"Yes..."
"That's right!"
"Don't lie to me, you think I don't know how I'm talked about behind my back," said Moaning Myrtle, tears streaming down her cheeks, "Fat Myrtle, Ugly Myrtle, Poor, crying Myrtle."
"You forgot..." Peeves said, laughing.
"That's enough, Peeves!" Evan quickly interrupted Peeves; he had something to ask and couldn't let Peeves spoil it.
"We truly believe you look beautiful tonight, you are very friendly unlike the other ghosts, you're the best, believe me..."
Upon hearing Evan's praises towards Myrtle, Harry, Ron, and Hermione were left speechless, amazed.
"Does Myrtle really like it?" Ron whispered to Harry, but unfortunately, it was heard by Peeves and Myrtle.
"You're lying, no one likes me," said Moaning Myrtle as she burst into tears once more and ran out of the Dungeon.
"No one cares for Myrtle, Myrtle Pimple-Face!" Peeves shouted as he ran after her, throwing musty peanuts.
