After the meeting, Jin He Li wanted to talk with Lin Fan privately.
The one-eyed man was fierce-looking, but not very eloquent. A rough and tumble sort, good at arguing, but when it came to proper communication, it was best left to the professionals.
"Master of Happiness."
Ginseng, observing Jin He Li's figure, curvaceous and perfect, imagined they were about to engage in an earth-shattering battle in the secret meeting room.
"Something you need?" Lin Fan asked.
Jin He Li stared into Lin Fan's eyes. Anyone else, stared at by such a beautiful woman, would shyly lower their head. But Lin Fan smiled and met her gaze.
For some reason, Jin He Li felt there was something strange about Lin Fan's smile. An image flashed in her mind…
A closed meeting room. Lin Fan pushing her onto the conference table. Lin Fan unbuttoning his shirt, removing his belt…and then her imagination took over.
Finally, Jin He Li looked away.
"Your greatest hope is to protect us, right?"
Lin Fan smiled. "Yes."
"But our current situation is very dangerous," Jin He Li said. She hoped to understand Lin Fan's true thoughts.
"Dangerous?" Lin Fan looked puzzled. "Is it? Where's the danger? Don't keep anything bottled up. You can tell me. I should be able to solve it."
"There's no immediate danger, but it's hard to say about the future. With the emergence of the Starry Sky Clans, danger lurks all around us. The universe is vast. With your strength, you'll eventually step into the cosmos." Jin He Li's biggest concern was this very scenario. The universe held a powerful allure for everyone. Someone as powerful as Lin Fan would inevitably leave.
"Huh?" Lin Fan felt something was amiss. Jin He Li's questions seemed baffling. I love it here. I have three homes here, and so many friends. What would I do in the universe? he thought.
He couldn't understand. It was completely bewildering.
"Is there something wrong with what I said?" Jin He Li noticed the strange look Lin Fan was giving her and asked curiously.
"Yes. I'm perfectly happy here. Why would I leave?" Lin Fan asked.
Jin He Li was briefly stunned, then she laughed. "Right. Maybe I'm overthinking things. I'll be going now."
She got up and left.
Lin Fan scratched his head, completely baffled by Jin He Li's behavior.
But he didn't dwell on it.
Watching her departing figure, he thought of his wife Mu Qing's back. Both were incredibly beautiful.
Night fell!
A figure crept stealthily through the special department.
The Evil Chicken, undercover until now, was preparing to transmit a message.
He wanted to prove himself a worthy and respected Evil Chicken Hero King.
He carefully placed one chicken foot in front of the other.
Noticing the sleeping security guard, he sneered inwardly. Foolish human, sleep on. You'll never know what crucial information I, the Evil Chicken Hero King, am about to leak.
However…
Inside the monitoring room.
Several surveillance personnel watched the screen. "That chicken's acting suspiciously. Should we sound the alarm?"
"No need. That's Lin Shen's pet."
"Right. Judging by its sneaky behavior, it's probably looking for a fling. The nights can get lonely, after all."
"Haha, true."
If the Evil Chicken knew that his every move was being monitored, he would have flown into a rage. If you've already spotted me, why not just tell me? Why make me look like a clown chicken?
Outside, he passed by the Dao Tree. Its leaves shimmered faintly gold in the night, as if absorbing moonlight to cultivate.
With the Evil Chicken's arrival, the Dao Tree's leaves trembled slightly.
"Cluck…" Noticing the movement, the Evil Chicken clucked softly, walked up to the tree, lifted its tail, and deposited a dropping at the base.
A little boost for you.
The Evil Chicken searched for a hidden spot, somewhere he wouldn't be seen. After all, undercover agents transmitting confidential information had to be cautious, lest they be discovered.
Discovery meant a very unpleasant outcome. Undercover work rarely ended well.
Finally, the Evil Chicken arrived at a park. The dimly lit surroundings were perfect. Unless someone came close, he'd be hard to spot.
He hopped onto a lamppost, spread his wings, and using a special evil summoning method, called out to his compatriots.
With that done, all that remained was to wait.
The night wind was boisterous, ruffling his feathers. His sharp claws gripped the lamppost. He held his head high, gazing into the darkness.
At this moment, the Evil Chicken wasn't his usual dejected self.
His gaze was sharp, domineering, radiating an air of invincibility.
Now, he resembled evil royalty, a tyrannical chicken CEO. He could even be described as the emotionless Evil Chicken Hero King.
After a long while, there was movement.
Hearing the sound, the Evil Chicken perked up. He had waited and prepared for so long. His undercover life had only afforded him one opportunity to show off in front of his fellow chickens.
He'd never shown off in front of other evil beings.
Now, his chance had come.
He had already planned several approaches.
The Evil Chicken looked towards the sound.
A monkey appeared. An Evil Monkey, who lived quite happily among humans. He usually performed street acts dressed in plastic chainmail armor, a plastic purple-gold crown with phoenix wings, canvas shoes, and wielding a wooden, gold-painted staff.
In the darkness, his blurry figure exuded a rebellious aura.
But as he stepped into the lamplight, his cheap costume looked…odd.
A low rumble echoed.
A souped-up scooter roared from the distance.
The Evil Gre Gre Witch appeared. His large frame and black fur blended perfectly with the night. If not for the patch of green on his head, he would have been almost invisible.
Soon, more evil beings arrived, each stranger than the last. Household pets, some wearing heart-patterned sweaters, others with little bells around their necks. If no one had mentioned it, they would have looked like ordinary pets, with no trace of their evil nature.
Chatter filled the air.
The evil beings looked around, searching for the one who had summoned them.
Just then, they noticed a large shadow cast on the ground, and a domineering voice boomed.
"Your king is here…"
"Raise your heads."
The Evil Chicken, surprisingly, spoke. He, who had remained silent, revealed himself before this group of evil beings. Of course, this was deliberate.
As for why he pretended to be mute among the humans…
That was because a good undercover agent needed a weakness. Being able to listen but not speak made him more trustworthy.
The evil beings were startled by the powerful voice.
But when they looked up and saw the Evil Chicken on the lamppost…
Their shock turned to confusion.
Him?
The Evil Chicken reveled in the moment. Gaze upon me! Worship me! I am your king, your overlord, the one you will never forget!
The green-haired gorilla, Gre Gre Witch, glanced disdainfully at the Evil Chicken.
Crazy.
He had felt the summons and debated whether to come. He was comfortable in his little villa. But then he thought, Oh well, let's take a look. Let the other evil beings see how well I, Gre Gre Witch, am living. Deluxe meals every day, with extra chicken legs.
The other evil beings continued to chatter.
They were curious about who had summoned them. They had been sleeping comfortably in their human homes and were annoyed at being woken. Now, to find out it was…this…
A complete waste of time.
Very disappointing.
Gre Gre Witch mounted his scooter, ready to go back to sleep.
"Stop right there!" The Evil Chicken, seeing the green-haired gorilla about to leave, was furious. Couldn't he see the Evil Chicken Hero King was here? What kind of behavior was this? What attitude? He clearly wasn't taking him seriously.
Gre Gre Witch looked up, giving the Evil Chicken a contemptuous look. Though he didn't speak, his eyes conveyed a clear message: You're a nobody…wasting my time.
Then, without looking back, he was about to ride away.
"Insolent!" the Evil Chicken roared. He leaped from the lamppost, raised a claw, and delivered a swift kick.
Clang!
The green wig flew through the air, flipped a few times, and landed softly on the ground. It was his trademark, his green prairie, usually making him feel like a grassland grew atop his head. But now, it lay still on the ground, lifeless.
The Evil Chicken lightly stepped on Gre Gre Witch's head and surveyed the surrounding evil beings.
They were all stunned.
They hadn't expected the small Evil Chicken to be so powerful. Gre Gre Witch was the strongest among them, yet he had been knocked out with a single kick. Terrifying.
"Are you not going to bow before the Evil Chicken Hero King?" the Evil Chicken demanded.
This was his most assertive moment.
His entire undercover career had led to this.
Finally, an outburst.
Though brief, it was a moment of pride.
The evil beings prostrated themselves before the Evil Chicken. Strength commanded respect. This was the law of survival among evil beings.
The Evil Chicken was pleased.
"Remember, I am the Evil Chicken Hero King. Now, I must tell you this: the ancient mountains and ruins have awakened. Opportunities have arisen once more. Humans will go to these places to seek treasures. We cannot fall behind. Spread the word, understand?"
The Evil Chicken felt he had been out too long. Staying any longer might lead to discovery.
Having said this, he quickly retreated.
The assembled evil beings, seeing the Evil Chicken leave, breathed a sigh of relief, then began to chatter amongst themselves.
"So powerful."
"Yeah, so fierce."
"He wants us to spread the word. Are all our Yanhai City compatriots here?"
"Yes, all of us."
"Then let's go home and sleep."
"Okay."
"If we don't go back soon, they'll worry about us."
"Mmm…"
That night, the Evil Chicken slept soundly.
He dreamed of reaching the pinnacle of power.
