Watching the elderly man in front of him down cup after cup of wine with unrestrained enthusiasm, Mo Yu couldn't help but marvel at how fascinating the Dou Qi continent was.
Xiao Yan could encounter Hai Bodong, one of the top ten hidden powerhouses in the empire, in a simple map shop. And he, Mo Yu, could randomly stop at an inn and meet a mysterious, powerful weapon refiner? Though it was unclear whether he could deepen his friendship with this enigmatic Bing Lao, it seemed that, for now, the elder bore him no ill will.
"Thank you, Bing Lao, for sharing information about the Weapon Alliance. This junior is deeply grateful." After speaking, Mo Yu poured himself a glass of wine, clinked it with the elder's cup, and downed it in one go.
He could see that the old man in front of him was a true lover of wine. Although Mo Yu didn't particularly enjoy drinking, he accompanied the elder with a few more drinks out of courtesy.
"Alright, kid, you've just about drunk up all my wine," the elder grumbled in dissatisfaction. But his expression was far from angry; if anything, he seemed pleased.
Clearly, drinking with company was far more enjoyable than drinking alone.
"Waiter, bring us a few more jars of wine."
Seeing the elder's reaction, Mo Yu smiled slightly and gestured to the inn's waiter.
The waiter quickly brought more wine, along with a feast of delicious dishes that filled the table.
Seeing the sumptuous meal, Qing Lin and the other two women couldn't help but perk up. After all, during the past few days on the flying magical beast, they hadn't had the chance to enjoy such a good meal.
"Hehe, kid, you all enjoy yourselves. It's time for me to take my leave." At this point, Bing Lao wiped the wine from the corner of his mouth, let out a satisfied belch, and prepared to depart with a smile.
Mo Yu was momentarily stunned; he had hoped to build a better relationship with the elder. But since the other party intended to leave, he couldn't insist. Out of respect, Mo Yu escorted the elder to the inn's entrance.
"Alright, kid, no need to see me off." As he stepped out of the inn, Bing Lao waved his hand dismissively.
"In that case, let's part ways here. I hope we'll meet again someday, Bing Lao," Mo Yu said with a light smile, setting aside some of his previous thoughts.
This situation was different from that of Hai Bodong and Xiao Yan.
Xiao Yan was able to recruit Hai Bodong as a bodyguard because Hai Bodong's strength had been sealed by Medusa, making him desperately in need of help from Yao Lao, who was hiding behind Xiao Yan.
Moreover, with Yao Lao as his trump card, Xiao Yan didn't have to worry about Hai Bodong turning against him, making their cooperation secure.
Mo Yu, however, was in a different position. Although he could offer something that would interest this elder—like certain techniques never seen before on the Dou Qi continent—his current strength was not enough. If the elder grew greedy, Mo Yu would be the one in danger.
Therefore, until he gained greater strength, Mo Yu wasn't willing to reveal too many of his secrets.
"Kid, today's drinking session was the most enjoyable I've had in a long time. In appreciation, I might be able to share some information you'll find interesting," Bing Lao said with a faint smile.
"What kind of information?" Mo Yu asked, surprised.
"It's about the 'Weapon Alliance'…" Bing Lao smacked his lips, as if savoring the lingering taste of the wine. "The Weapon Alliance is relatively new, and there aren't many weapon refiners on the Dou Qi continent. But here in the Mu Lan Empire, the number of weapon refiners is actually quite high, and there's even a branch of the Weapon Alliance. Kid, are you interested in joining the Weapon Alliance?"
Hearing the words "Weapon Alliance," Mo Yu's interest was piqued. He smiled and asked, "Bing Lao, are you a member of the Weapon Alliance? Can you really help me join?"
"Our Weapon Alliance may not be as influential as the Alchemist Guild, but it's not something just anyone can join. You'll need to pass a test, and whether you get in or not depends on your own skills," Bing Lao explained, shaking his head.
Mo Yu nodded in understanding. If the Weapon Alliance included weapon refiners like Bing Lao, it was clearly not a low-tier organization. They wouldn't accept just anyone.
"Please, Bing Lao, share with me how to join the Weapon Alliance. This junior would be most grateful," Mo Yu said, cupping his hands in respect.
"Hehe, in the central part of the Mu Lan Empire, there's a city called Beast Wasteland City. There's a branch of the Weapon Alliance there. You can find it easily enough by asking around. When you arrive, take this letter of introduction with you. If you pass the assessment, you'll be able to join the Weapon Alliance." Bing Lao took out a sealed parchment from his spatial ring and handed it to Mo Yu.
Mo Yu accepted the parchment. The seal on the cover bore a beautiful crimson design resembling an extraordinary furnace, which he recognized as a refining furnace.
Just as alchemists require cauldrons, weapon refiners need refining furnaces.
Refining furnaces help to refine and smelt materials, offering significant support to the process and making the work much more efficient. As such, they are an essential tool for any weapon refiner, and thus quite valuable.
When Mo Yu was first reborn, he hadn't had the money to buy a refining furnace. Besides, he was confident in his techniques, so he hadn't acquired one yet.
However, if given the chance, he planned to craft his own refining furnace. Having a customized tool would certainly make his future work much easier.
"Thank you, Bing Lao. If I have the opportunity, I will definitely visit Beast Wasteland City." Mo Yu expressed his gratitude as he accepted the parchment.
His visit to the Mu Lan Empire had two primary goals: to fulfill his promise to Master Frank by helping Xue Mei end her engagement with the Liu family and to travel to the Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Range, where he planned to use the Vermilion Burning Sky Thunder to absorb the Ten Thousand Beasts Flame.
It seemed he now had a third objective: to join the Weapon Alliance in Beast Wasteland City, a group of weapon refiners.
"Well, I've given you the letter. Whether you pass the assessment is up to your skills." Bing Lao waved his hand nonchalantly and gave Mo Yu an encouraging look before blending into the crowd, disappearing from Mo Yu's sight.
Watching the elder's figure fade into the distance, Mo Yu stood silently for a moment before turning back to the inn.
Though he wasn't sure why the elder had taken an interest in him, it seemed clear that Bing Lao held no ill intentions—perhaps it was simply a matter of appreciation.
"Mo Yu, you're back! What did that elder say to you?"
Seeing Mo Yu return, Lin Fei, who couldn't contain her curiosity, immediately asked.
"Nothing much, just a farewell," Mo Yu replied, not wanting to discuss the Weapon Alliance for now. He looked at the mostly finished meal and said, "Let's rest after we finish eating. Tomorrow morning, we'll head to the Liu family together and end Xue Mei's engagement."
Hearing this, Xue Mei's expression grew serious. She looked at Mo Yu with hopeful eyes. Tomorrow's journey would rest on his shoulders, and she hoped that her teacher had made the right choice in him.
Mo Yu, on the other hand, remained calm and composed. After all, the strongest person in the Liu family was only a two-star Dou Ling. If push came to shove, he could always summon Zi Huo and see whose fists were stronger...
