Kapitel 70: Chapter 70 (edited)

After receiving a set of "photobooks" completed in collaboration with Bruce, Kara bid farewell to Gotham City and embarked on her journey back to Metropolis.

As for Jennifer, Kara hoped she could take good care of herself and handle her relationship well.

There shouldn't be any issues.

That evening, Kara arrived home, and before she had a chance to rest, Perry called to remind her to come to work the next day.

Kara quickly agreed and mentioned that she had photos of Batman and would prepare tomorrow's manuscript overnight. This satisfied Perry, and he let her go.

Later, Kara called Clark to ask how things were going at school and whether everything was running smoothly. She even suggested having dinner together that evening.

To her surprise, Clark declined her invitation. He actually rejected dinner with his own sister?

It turned out that after starting college, Clark had finally made a friend: a boy named Lex Luthor, who was his dormmate.

Since people in Metropolis weren't familiar with Clark's childhood oddities, and he could now control his powers better, Jonathan no longer prevented him from interacting with others.

For the first time, Clark was no longer isolated and had made his first real friend.

The reason he turned down Kara's invitation was that he had plans with Lex.

Hearing this, Kara was genuinely happy for Clark.

However, after hanging up the phone, a look of surprise crossed her face. Wait a second—who? Lex Luthor?

No way. Wasn't that supposed to be one of Superman's biggest enemies?

Kara was speechless. She never imagined that Clark's first friend would turn out to be his future nemesis.

Still, at this stage, Lex wasn't an enemy, nor was he a bad person.

On the contrary, according to Clark, Lex was a kind-hearted individual with grand ideals.

Kara didn't overreact. She wasn't about to act on mere assumptions based on a name. For now, Lex was just Clark's first friend.

Instead, she suppressed her concerns and decided to observe the dynamic between Clark and Lex, curious about what kind of sparks might eventually fly.

The Next Day

After returning to Metropolis, Kara first went to pick up Jennifer's car. Since her car was still in Gotham being used by Jennifer, she decided to borrow Jennifer's vehicle for a while.

In fact, Jennifer's car was better than her own, so it felt like an upgrade.

Driving to the familiar building of the Daily Planet, Kara couldn't help but feel nostalgic. It seemed like she hadn't been to work in ages. Surprisingly, she felt genuinely happy.

Some colleagues gave her startled looks as if surprised she hadn't been fired for taking such a long break and daring to show up again.

Ordinarily, such behavior might have gotten someone dismissed.

However, Kara held a prominent position at the Daily Planet. Before taking her vacation, she had prepared content for her column in advance, ensuring it remained updated while she was away.

Only during the last two days had she fallen behind, but when she presented her new photos and a completed article to Perry, his initial annoyance turned into delight.

The reason was clear—Kara had photographed Batman, who had been missing for some time, and captured his updated suit. The exclusive material was incredibly valuable.

"Well done," Perry praised her, impressed by her productivity.

Kara grinned and asked, "So, you're not going to fire me?"

"I never said I would," Perry replied. "By the way, I hired a new assistant while you were away. You should meet her."

He called out, and a blonde woman entered the room to meet Kara.

"Kara, this is Cat Grant. Cat, this is Kara. She's in charge of a column, so feel free to ask her anything you're unsure about," Perry introduced them.

Then, he passed Cat off to Kara and returned to review Kara's submission, checking for any errors or inconsistencies.

Kara rolled her eyes as Perry walked away. She couldn't believe he wanted her to mentor someone new. Was he serious?

Still, Kara turned to Cat, who looked nervous, her head slightly bowed and hands clasped together. Kara's reputation at the Daily Planet clearly preceded her, making the rookie uneasy.

Kara sighed, nodded, and said, "Alright. Since Perry wants you to learn from me, you can be my assistant for now."

Perry interrupted from behind, "She's still my assistant. I just want her to train under you. She's got potential and writes well."

Kara shot Perry a mock glare before leading Cat away.

Though annoyed by the assignment, Kara didn't take it out on Cat. Instead, she appraised the young woman. Cat had striking looks and a poised demeanor. Kara admired her decision to pursue journalism instead of relying on her appearance to secure an easy life.

Over time, Kara patiently taught Cat everything she knew, even offering constructive criticism and practical advice. She also treated Cat to drinks and lunch occasionally, fostering a friendly relationship.

One awkward moment arose when Cat praised Kara's youth, marveling at how accomplished she was for someone who looked 18 or 19.

A passing colleague corrected Cat, revealing that Kara was actually 28.

Kara was mildly offended. Why did he have to mention that?

However, she acknowledged that her youthful appearance was due to her Kryptonian physiology, which slowed her aging.

One day, a headline caught Kara's attention: a gang of masked criminals resembling the Joker had robbed a bank.

Joker?
