**Why was the Ancient One killed by Kaecilius?**
Because she foresaw the potential in Doctor Strange, recognizing that he was the best successor. Only through her death could Doctor Strange grow quickly enough to take on the responsibility of Sorcerer Supreme.
She may have long known that Kaecilius would betray her but didn't stop it because it was the best possible outcome. After all, with her immense power, how could Kaecilius have escaped from Kamar-Taj so easily? Kaecilius wasn't alone when he left; he had a group of followers with him. If the Ancient One couldn't notice such a large disturbance, how could she possibly defend against the multiverse or protect the Earth?
Her fate was, in fact, controlled, but she accepted it, recognizing the greater good. Despite her incredible strength, the Ancient One's destiny still seemed to be in the hands of "mortals" like the Time Variance Authority (TVA) and the He Who Remains, which seems absurd. After all, the TVA is composed of ordinary people, and He Who Remains, a variant of Kang the Conqueror, was eventually stabbed to death by Sylvie, a female variant of Loki.
In reality, the Ancient One was powerful, but perhaps not powerful enough. Across countless parallel universes and timelines, there are many versions of the Ancient One, but while she can relate to the multiverse, she cannot connect to its core essence.
On the other hand, He Who Remains, a variant of Kang, had long ago initiated the multiversal war, eventually emerging victorious. He merged the timelines of the multiverse and controlled the multiverse through the Sacred Timeline. Even though he was a mortal, he became one of the core life forms of the multiverse.
Core life forms are essential to the multiverse. Their numbers are few, but they possess pivotal powers that affect the entire multiverse. According to the Watcher, there are four such beings: Sethnig, Merlin the Necromancer, Kang the Conqueror, and the Scarlet Witch.
Take Kang the Conqueror and the Scarlet Witch, for example. One ruled over the multiverse, while the other shattered its rules. This highlights the significance of core life forms.
Though Sylvie may have killed He Who Remains and seemingly plunged the multiverse into chaos with her knife, in reality, the multiverse was already changing before his death. The cycle of the Sacred Timeline had already been broken, coinciding with the moment Wanda fully became the Scarlet Witch and embraced dark magic. The two events are inseparable.
Jonny Blaze wasn't entirely sure if it was Sylvie or Wanda who initiated the multiverse's fragmentation. It was even possible that Doctor Strange's spell to make the world forget Spider-Man's identity had a role. But one thing he was certain of: the Ancient One probably didn't know as much as he did.
After all, the future the Ancient One could see was at most the future that He Who Remains could see. But Jonny Blaze could see beyond even what He Who Remains could see!
The Ancient One knew Jonny Blaze would become the Master of the Void, and perhaps even recognized his power when she tried to look into his mind. If she had been able to sense the Void directly, she wouldn't have been so surprised when she discovered he could manipulate reality and appear within the Void.
"Have you been to the Void?" Jonny Blaze asked with a smile.
The Ancient One shook her head.
"Then how do you know you haven't been cut from the timeline by the TVA?"
"The TVA—was that its original name?"
Jonny Blaze grinned. "How could you not know the name of the Time Variance Authority?"
Jonny relaxed a bit more and said, "Do you know why I'm here? I have a Time Stone, the Time Stone from this timeline!"
The Ancient One was surprised to learn that two Time Stones existed at the same time, but as the Sorcerer Supreme, the master of time, she quickly regained her composure. "Do you want to learn the time magic from the *Book of Cagliostro*?" she asked.
Jonny Blaze shrugged noncommittally.
The Ancient One seemed curious why Jonny didn't learn from the "other version" of himself in the Void, as he had already mastered dimensional mirroring.
"I can lend you the *Book of Cagliostro*, but only at Kamar-Taj. You know it's important to the future."
If the *Book of Cagliostro* hadn't been at Kamar-Taj, Kaecilius wouldn't have been able to summon Dormammu using the dark magic in the book.
"Next time," Jonny Blaze replied, "I'm more interested in seeing your magic right now."
"Alright," the Ancient One said with a smile.
She tapped her right foot on the ground, and instantly the ground shifted, rolling like a line of dominoes falling over.
Jonny Blaze dodged the attack, and suddenly a system prompt sounded.
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, drop reward: Ancient One's Magic of Cyttorak"
It was the crimson bands of Cyttorak, a magical weapon of incredible power. This was real magic!
The Ancient One moved gracefully toward Jonny, and with a sharp motion, she unleashed the Ring of Raggador, aiming for his shoulder.
*Boom!*
Jonny leaned back slightly and flashed the Ancient One a mischievous smile. "Is that all you've got?"
The Ancient One smiled and unleashed a rapid series of attacks with the Rings of Raggador, aiming blow after blow at Jonny.
*Boom, boom, boom!*
The two clashed fiercely, each move more intense than the last.
