A searing, violent purple-red chakra erupted from Naruto's body like a volcano awakening from a thousand-year slumber, its malevolent energy reaching up to the stormy heavens, swirling into the clouds. He stood in the heart of a maelstrom, his very presence warping the natural world. A harbinger of destruction. The forest around him seemed to groan and crack, as though in welcoming of an ancient challenge, one not seen since the days of the First Hokage.
"Space Path: Immortal Aperture Killer Move" Fang Yuan's calm voice murmured in the midst of the calamity..
With a wave of his hand, the battlefield changed, the landscape shimmering as the dream realms surrounding them were banished. What remained was a stark, barren land with pillars of wood around which looked like a cage, making Kyuubi furious. If there was something Kyuubi loathed most, it would certainly be cages.
The chakra around Naruto thickened like a blood-red mist. His skin peeled off, burned away by the sheer intensity of the energy coursing through his veins, only to regenerate in an endless, grotesque cycle. The beast within him was clawing its way to the surface. His body glowed, a dark silhouette radiating crimson. His eyes, glowing like molten embers, locked onto the only threat in sight.
With a guttural roar that split the heavens, Naruto's body exploded forward, his chakra condensing, compressing the ground beneath him into dust and debris. His body smashed through the sound barrier with a crack that echoed through the sky. The monstrous four-tailed Kyuubi had emerged, and it lunged, a force of nature, at the handsome figure standing calmly before it.
In his heart, Naruto felt the black pit of grief, his overwhelming sorrow transforming him, pushing him directly into the Kyuubi's four-tailed form. It is important to note that Naruto hadn't even manifested the 1 tailed cloak until now, he didn't even have the Kyuubi's chakra leak out more than a handful of times. To start with the 4-tails, the amount of sorrow and hatred he felt was above anything that happened and would happen. Fang Yuan did a great job and now was the time to reap the fruits.
Fang Yuan's expression finally showed a change, his eyes narrowing with cold calculation.
From the very ground, a thin wooden battle kimono formed, glowing faintly with his own chakra, protecting him from the influence of Kyuubi's, as he prepared to meet the beast head-on in a taijutsu battle.
Kyuubi was about to reach him. Itss claw, sharp as razors and dripping with violent chakra, slashed toward Fang Yuan's head with lethal intent. Yet, just before the claw could make contact, Fang Yuan's hand shot up, meeting the piercing attack with open palms. His wooden sleeves quickly attaching to the Kyuubi's claws. They turned and twisted into handcuffs, binding the claws together in a violent clash. In a handful of miliseconds, Kyuubi's claws were handcuffed together.
Without hesitation, Fang Yuan squatted low, using the momentary confusion of the beast while the Kyuubi kept its momentum, going over Fang Yuan. Under the Kyuubi, Fang Yuan focused all his chakra on his single hand. Before the Kyuubi could keep moving or react, Fang Yuan launched himself off the ground using a gust of wind release, jumping upwards with blinding speed. He delivered a bone-crushing uppercut, enhanced by the wood and chakra, to the Kyuubi's jaw, sending it crashing upward, a violent howl of pain ripping from its throat.
Snarling, the Kyuubi shredded the wooden handcuffs, its claws tearing through the air. It extended a chakra arm toward Fang Yuan, who dodged nimbly, but the beast caught the ground instead, using it to pull itself back onto the ground where it could resume the fight.
Yet Fang Yuan would not allow that, in an instant, he shifted the terrain. A massive pillar of wood erupted from the earth beneath the Kyuubi, propelling it even higher. Tendrils shout out from the pillar, restraining the Kyuubi's body like a spider web. For a brief moment, the Kyuubi was immobilized. Fang Yuan, seizing the opportunity, lifted an enormous fist-shaped mass of wood extending from his arm. He channelled all of his chakra into his muscles.
With all his might, he hurled the miniature wooden mountain at the Kyuubi. The impact shattered the wooden pillar, sending the Kyuubi careening across the battlefield, smashing through the ground and skidding across the terrain like a stone skipping across water. It finally collided with a distant mountain, the force of the impact shaking the earth for miles.
The wildlife fled in terror. The once-lush trees withered, their leaves turning black and falling lifelessly to the ground. A deep crater marred the mountain, now crumbling beneath the pressure of the Kyuubi's red chakra. Only it's tails was fully intact. It's limbs were destroyed and its lower body was crushed, chakra dripping onto the floor. But the chakra did not fade. It gathered again, growing stronger, more ferocious.
From the cloud of debris, a terrifying roar shook the skies. The Kyuubi was back, now even more enraged. A shiver crawled up the spines of every remaining Konoha ninja.
A fifth tail had appeared.
---
Fang Yuan stood amidst the rubble, watching as the Kyuubi crawled from the wreckage. His wooden arm regenerated, smooth and perfect, as if the previous battle hadn't taken place. He expected the so-called "strongest tailed beast" to reveal more of its powers, some unknown abilities unknown to Konoha perhaps but so far, it just used brute force.
"There's still more tails left," Fang Yuan mused, slighty hopeful about a thousand year old beast's techniques. Even if it didn't, Fang Yuan still had a use for the beast.
With a feral snarl, the Kyuubi launched itself into the air, its speed now even greater. It wasn't aiming directly for Fang Yuan but for something above him. Had it lost its mind? No matter.
Fang Yuan knelt, intending to place his hand on the ground to turn the earth to wood again, but just before his hand could touch the dirt, a dangerous presence filled the air. He leaped up instinctively but not far enough.
A massive chakra arm, larger than any before, burst from the ground, wrapping around Fang Yuan with terrifying force. He had underestimated the Kyuubi's growing power. The fox's chakra fingers squeezed, threatening to crush him in an instant.
The wood around them trembled, almost restless, as if sensing its master in danger. But the Kyuubi, undeterred, gripped tighter, its own claws joining the chakra hand. The pressure mounted, threatening to break Fang Yuan like a twig in between the gigantic hand's fingers.
But Fang Yuan was not one to die so easily. His wooden arm transformed into a slim staff, a narrow wand that gave him just enough space to survive, wedged between the crushing forces. Even so, the red chakra surrounded him like a storm, suffocating, overpowering.
"I never needed to touch the ground anyway," Fang Yuan muttered, his voice strained but calm.
In an instant, the surrounding forest was absorbed, the earth beneath them morphing into wood once more, transforming the battlefield into Fang Yuan's domain. He even extended the wooden plain to the ones before, supplying even more wood.
"Wood Path: Wooden Thorn Jutsu!"
9 Giant wooden branches erupted from the ground, piercing the Kyuubi's form. But that wasn't the jutsu's power. With it came countless smaller branches, each of them spreading through Kyuubi's chakra like venomous roots. The fox roared in fury, but the branches grew tighter, not letting the beast move.
Using the infiltrating wooden branches, Fang Yuan connected the wooden staff into the ground, channeling a ridiculous amount of wood into it. The staff with renewed strength, extended and forced the Kyuubi's chakra claws away, freeing himself from its grip.
The Kyuubi's eyes burned with rage at the sight of it's prey escaping as it flexed its now even more immense power, shattering the wooden restraints with minor difficulty. Yet Fang Yuan remained calm, retreating slightly as he summoned another wooden hand, this time even denser, with his staff at the ready in the other.
The battlefield had become eerily quiet. Fang Yuan and the Kyuubi locked eyes, two titanic forces preparing for the next round.
Fang Yuan stood upright, his awe-inspiring wooden battle kimono paired with his staff making him look like a rightful hero, ready to take down the hateful monster. His face was expresionless except the gleam in his beautiful eyes. He seemed to be wandering something, something intriguing.
The Kyuubi was his polar opposite. It was crouched low, ready to pounce on it's prey, its five tails swaying like lethal whips screaming of death, the texture of its body a twisted mix of red and black chakra, pulsing with malice. It looked absolutely hideous. Its eyes, distorted face, no, its every movement screamed hatred.
Perfectly between them, a single leaf, torn from the now destroyed forest, floated lazily toward the ground. Half of it, touched by the Kyuubi's chakra, turned black and crumbled. The other half, bright and green, closer to Fang Yuan's side, got even more vitalized, symbolizing the stark contrast between the two warriors.
As the leaf touched the earth, the brief moment of silence broke.
With a deafening roar, the Kyuubi charged. The battle resumed.
