Kapitel 53: Shattered illusions

I hurried down the stairs, my heart pounding in my chest, Mrs. Alfonzo's piercing scream still ringing in my ears. 

I didn't know what to expect, but nothing could have prepared me for the sight I stumbled upon.

There, in the middle of the large sitting room, lay the body of a man. 

Blood pooled around him, dark and ominous against the bright white marble floor. 

Sofia stood above him, a gun in her hand, her face a mixture of defiance and rage as she stared at the man on the ground.

Bruno, Mrs. Alfonzo, and two of their cousins were gathered around, their expressions as frozen as the corpse lying at their feet.

It was something that had taken all of us by surprise.

Time seemed to slow as I took in the scene, each detail sinking into my mind with a cold, sickening finality. 

Bruno was the first to notice me. His eyes widened, a flicker of anger flashing through them before his face hardened.
