Kapitel 29: The Hidden Truth

I found myself standing outside Bruno's study, my heart racing as I pressed my ear to the door. 

My pulse vibrated in my ears, drowning out the quiet of the hallway, but I forced myself to focus on the muffled voices inside. 

Bruno had told me this man, whoever he was, worked with a rival family, but now that I was hearing their conversation for myself, something didn't feel right.

It just felt as if there was something more to this and I was practically in the middle of it.

The tone of their voices was low, too low for me to make out every word, but I could catch enough. 

The man's voice was agitated, demanding something over and over again, though he never mentioned specifics, or rather I couldn't completely hear him.

"You promised you'd take care of it," the man said, his voice edged with frustration.

Bruno's voice followed, deep and measured as always, calm in the way only he could manage.
