Kapitel 11: Debut (1)

The day after was the weekend, Ryu slept in and unlike normal let his body wake him up and not an alarm clock. This allowed him to wake up feeling great and fully rested, once he had gotten up, he checked himself out in the mirror. The change in appearance was astounding, the bruises had almost fully gone away, a small amount of muscle definition showed through his skin, because of his overall lack of any fat. The beginning of a six pack was starting to form on his stomach, all of these changes in appearance made Ryu more confident about himself, and as he studied himself, he felt happy and content.

"I better check my daily quests; I can't fall behind on training," thought Ryu to himself as he was groggily cooking himself breakfast, he still hadn't fully awoken even if he felt fully rested.

As he was cooking breakfast, he heard a "Ding", it clearly came from his phone. "I wonder who's texting me, I'm not a very popular person," Ryu thought to himself as he slid his phone out of his pocket. There was only one outstanding notification, and as he read it, he remembered what had happened yesterday. The notification was a text message from Raven that said, "Cage match tonight, b there or b square, haha jk, show up if you wanna debut tonight bud." "I guess today is my chance to debut, I'll have to make sure I do my best to prepare," Ryu said to himself as he turned the stove burner off and plopped his scrambled eggs onto a plate.

After he had scarfed down his eggs, he thought to himself, "Quests," with that a display menu opened in front of his eyes.

With the extra time he had, he thought he should pay Kenji a visit to make sure he was doing okay. "I know that he cares a whole hell of a lot about school, so I'm worried about how this suspension is affecting him, especially because he's not a nepo, trust-fund, child that can bribe his way out of it like Kenzo," thought Ryu as he threw on clothes and started walking towards Kenji's house.

Once he arrived there, he rang the doorbell. He heard footsteps coming towards the door, but they didn't seem heavy enough to be Kenji's. He waited around for a bit, and finally, he heard a deadbolt unlatching. A few seconds after the deadbolt unlatched, the door slowly opened to reveal a woman in her mid-forties, she had her hair in a bun hairstyle, was about 5'4, and greatly resembled Kenji. As she started speaking, it was evident that her serious looking face was matching her tone, "Who are you, I've never seen you before," said the woman at the door.

"I'm Ryu, one of Kenji's friends from class, I wanted to check up on him and make sure he was okay," said Ryu in a polite tone, he was trying to suck up to her a little bit so that he could see Kenji.

"Well, he's not taking visitors right now, he's grounded until this suspension is over," said the woman at the door.

"Can you please just let him know I said thank you, and tell him I stopped by, the name is Ryu," said Ryu to the woman with utmost sincerity.

"Yeah, I guess I can do that, you be safe heading home, I'll tell him what you said," responded the woman, as she abruptly slammed the door and clicked the deadbolt.

"Well, that was one of the most awkward interactions I think I've had," Ryu thought to himself.

With that over, Ryu started heading back towards his home, but as he did, he heard a window open and the distinct sound of Kenji's happy go-lucky voice, "THANKS FOR STOPPING BY RYU, SEE YOU MONDAY!" said Kenji. Smiling to himself, Ryu shouted back, "NO PROBLEM KENJ, I'LL SEE YA."

With that he rushed back home to get ready for his fight. He checked his phone, under the message was an attachment that listed both the location and the time. The location was a rundown warehouse in a shady area of Tokyo, about 3 minutes away, and the time was an hour from now.

Figuring it wouldn't hurt to be early, Ryu got into a pair of compression athletic shorts that he had, well actually they weren't compression they were just so small for him they fit like compression. He threw on a tank-top figuring he'd take off whatever shirt he wore before the fight. With that he headed out towards the location.

Once he got there, he studied the facade of the building which was intriguing to put it in the least. It was run down and looked as if it was about to crumble to the ground. Most of the windows on the exterior were broken, and the abandoned warehouse was covered in graffiti. It pretty much looked like a murder location. "Well, if I die, I die, but this is a really freaking shady spot," Ryu thought to himself as he mustered up the courage to enter the dilapidated building.

After psyching himself up a bit, he entered through one of the side doors, well side doorframe, the doors had long been kicked in or ripped off of the hinges, so he just hoped he was entering from the right side.

As he entered, he saw a blood, dust, and mud spotted floor, the walls that were still standing were cracking, and some had just outright caved in. As he questioned the structural integrity of the building, he kept walking through it until he found a wide-open area with an octagon in it. This area was dimly lit, and in the room, he saw Raven and a couple other people.

"Look who's overly punctual," he heard Raven call out to him.

"Haha, yeah, you really couldn't have picked a sketchier location, I was trying to figure out if I was coming here to fight or sell my organs," Ryu retorted back in a joking manner.

"Yeah, sorry about that, but I don't choose the location, I just recruit the fighters, but no you'll be safe, don't worry, barely any of our fighters get seriously injured, and if you do, we have a doctor on standby, were not as poorly set up as you'd think, considering the building we chose to host this fight in," said Raven.

With that comment, Raven walked over to him until he was at a more comfortable distance for speaking. "So, let's get you stretched out and warmed up for the fight, what's your codename going to be for this fight?" said Raven. "Hmm," Ryu said aloud as he thought to himself about what he should name himself. "Do you have any ideas?" Ryu asked Raven. "What about The Ogre, it's menacing but ironic because of how skinny you are," said Raven. "I like it, let's go with that," said Ryu.

"Before you stretch, let me brief you on who you're fighting. You're fighting a guy named Jackal, he's about the same size as you, but a little shorter and a little skinnier. He's a pretty good kickboxer, and his weakness is grappling, but I'm assuming you're not a grappler." Raven said to Ryu.

"No, I'm not a grappler, but I know the basics of Muay Thai kicks and a good amount of boxing," said Ryu.

"Alright, then I guess it's practically kickboxer versus kickboxer, that's going to be entertaining," said Raven.

With that Ryu prepared for the fight with Raven, making sure he was properly stretched and fit for the fight that was starting in under an hour. As they continued to prepare, more and more people filled in the second floor standing around the rusted-out railings ready to watch a fight.
