Kapitel 11: The Cats and Rats Bender

With the Wireline successfully built, I began to take the last crucial step in my plan. That was transporting the lamb carcass toward the Florist 200m away from the supermarket.

Without a second thought, I took a deep breath and sprinted towards the food storage room, as my feet were pounding against the floor in a rush.

As I burst through the door, I was hit with a wave of pungent aroma. The room was dimly lit, the shadows cast by the flickering fluorescent lights giving it a gloomy and horror atmosphere. my eyes scanned the shelves, before ending my gaze settling on the lamb carcass, still spotted in place. It was almost spoiled, the meat grayish and slimy, but it was perfect for tempting the greedy mutants outside.

my nose wrinkled in distaste as I grabbed the carcass, the warm rotten flesh felt heavy in my hands, and kind of disgustingly slippery, Thus I began to add some force to tighten my grip. I began to lift it onto my back, the weight of it making me stumble momentarily.

"Luckily the exercise I did in these past 2 days increased my strength a little bit, otherwise I might be in desperate situation now after failing to lift this this thing"

Even though the foul odor and the disgusting texture bothered me alot, I didn't let it faze me.

"I should tailor some masks later… This thing smells worse than the toilet of someone who just mukbang on peanut butter… urghhh…"

I began to hold my breath and began to drag the carcass towards the door, the sound of dangling lamb legs slapping against the floor echoing through the room.

Finally, after feeling like eternity, tortured by a strong hell like smell, I finally reached the second floor, as the carcass left a trail of yellow puss like blood and fluids behind.

I thought for a moment, my mind racing with the last step of my silly plan. I knew I needed more spoiled meat, meat that was on the verge of rotting.

As I had this thought, my gaze moved to the one street alley below, looking at the mutated creature who still heated up in a royal brawl.

"Seems like I need to herd them closer near this restaurant if I want to make them attracted by this bad b*tch!"

PA! Slapping the butt of the rotten lamb, I began to regret after sniffing my hand which now began to smell like sh*t.

Shaking my head in my own foolishness, I turned around and headed back down to the food storage room.

Bursting through the door, my eyes scanned the shelves for anything that was almost spoiled. Ended up settling on a few pieces of rotten chicken, some moldy bread, and a crate of eggs that were past their expiration date. I decided to grab them all, as I felt my arms straining under the weight of my own haul.

As I turned to leave, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in a broken mirror on the wall.

My face was smeared with dirt and sweat, my eyes sunken from lack of sleep, with a ragtag homemade armor I currently wore, my appearance more like a beggar rather than a cool MC in some dark apocalypse manga.

"Comparison is a sin, all this time I always thought myself looked badass like Guts from berserk, but who knows it turned out to be Trevor from GTA 5 who was wearing the silly black "superhero" suit from GTA S*n Andre*s instead…."

With my newfound "loots", I am heading on my way back to the second floor, my mind racing with the possible completion of my plan.

Reaching the second floor, I begin to feel my arms straining under the weight of the spoiled stuff I had collected. Finding it too much to carry, I decided to bring only the necessary amount that I might need..

As I turned my gaze to the corner of one street about the restaurant building, I was met with a sight that made my blood run cold. The colony of rats and a few mutated cats had already begun their all out war, their bodies tangled in a brutal and beastly dance as I saw countless corpses of their kinds littering the street.

The huge rats who had the advantage of numbers began to overwhelm the cats. They snarled and snapped, their teeth razor-sharp, as they bit and clawed at the mutated cats.

The cats, on the other hand, were monstrous, their bodies big as husky are not just for show. They hissed and spat, their eyes blazing with fury, as they swiped at the rats with their massive paws and sharp claws, slicing some of the rats in half.

The fight was intense, the two sides locked in a death battle, as no sides wanted to back off. The air was thick with the smell of blood and rot, the sound of snarling and hissing filling the air as the amount of miasma began to intensify.

"Fvvkin hell, don't tell me it was not only me who can level up by killing, did these creatures also have the same potential like me? The more they kill, the more they grow? And here I thought I had the privilege of being the main character after meeting Sariel, turns out life is a bitch after all. Why is equality a thing now when I don't ask for it?!"

I continued to watch in horror as the two sides clashed, their bodies crashing together in a flurry of fur and claws. I saw a rat's head get bitten off, its body spinning through the air as it died. On the mutated cat side, I saw it getting overwhelmed by the numbers of the rat, as the swarm left only behind bones after they failed to defend themselves.

The fight was brutal, the two sides refusing to back down, and it only became more intense as they continued. I knew that I had to act fast, or the risk of the situation being out of hand will slowly bite me on the back.

I took a deep breath, my heart racing with excitement and fear. Thus I slowly began to move forward, the small pieces of rotten meat clenched tightly in his hands.

I tossed the first piece of meat to the side, watching as they slightly paused their fight, drawing by the rotten meat who suddenly fell from the sky close to them. Realizing that the rotten meat can draw their attention, I tossed another piece, and another, slowly leading them in my direction.

After finding the distance between the horde of mutants and me were safe enough to begin my big plan. I stopped luring them.

my eyes fixed on the mutated creatures below. They were already slowly gathered around the restaurant vicinity but still did not notice my whereabouts yet.

And so, I pull the trigger to start the show. Taking out the butcher hook, I began to hang the lamb carcass into the wireline I built. I had carefully hung the carcass, making sure it was secure.

Just as I finished hanging it, I realized the commotion below suddenly stopped. Moving my gaze, I saw that all the mutants glowing eyes were eyeing the tempting lamb carcass hanging about on the veranda of the abandoned restaurant.

A small smile appeared in my face, albeit the nervousness began to pile up within me.

Without thinking twice I pushed the carcass, it began to move, slowly at first, but as it went down further it started gaining velocity, headed towards the florist rail direction.

The mutated creatures' eyes were fixed on the carcass which was moving slowly in the air, the rotten odor was like the fragrance of a five star Michelin star restaurant dish for them, with their mouth drooling, their bodies moving as they trailed after the carcass.

The scene somewhat reminds me of the old cartoons where the donkey keeps moving ahead, eyeing the carrot that the rider hung in front of it.

"Hell yeah! Come baby!"

Just as I begin to feel excited about the success of my plan, the mutated cats and rats began to fight as they kept chasing the carcass. The cats became crazy, tearing at the rats who tried to get in their way. The rats reacted similarly, biting and clawing at the cats. The air was filled with the sounds of snarling and hissing once again, as the two sides began to clash, trying to fight over the dangling meat.

I smile while looking at the scene below me. my plan was working, even though I miscalculated on how aggressive these mutants behave, but it was not that far off.

I grabbed the remaining rotten pieces of meat and began to jump from rooftop to rooftop, following the trail of the mutated creatures ahead of me.

As I moved, I could see the creature's corpse littering around below him making a trail of carnage, as the horde who still struggled to fight but still moving as one, following the lamb carcass who was still sliding down to the florist direction.

I continued to follow the herd slowly, dashing around nimbly from one rooftops to others. My movement is swift, but creates minimal noise.

Like a shadow, I kept my eyes fixed on them, while keeping my appearances hidden from their senses.

Before long, I saw that the creatures had finally reached their destination. The lamb carcass had been torn apart from the hook, as they began to fight over it.

They were now engaged in an all-out war, fighting with each other to get to the meat. The mutated cats were tearing at the mutated rats, their claws outstretched as they tried to grab pieces of meat. The rats were biting back, their teeth snapping as they defended their territory. All in all, the scale of their fight was now outstretched on the boundary between the florist and the supermarket.

I watched in awe on how fast these greedy imps escalated the situation, my mind racing with the implications of what I saw.

'The mutated creatures were capable of such violence, such ferocity. What would happen if they evolve more later? Not only that, did I by chance play with fire?? These… I think If I am not careful enough the situation might end up being out of control…"

As I stood there, frozen in horror, I knew it was already too late to back off now. Go big or go home, either I survive after being a fisherman here, or die stupidly engulfed by the storm that I created myself.

I palpitate after realizing my approach was not as safe as I thought.

"Seems like I still underestimate these b*tches…."
