He was too confident.

Every time he recalled this day, Gu Ping felt an unbearable pain.

He and a group of colleagues foolishly shadowed their targets, little realizing they had been outsmarted. Within mere minutes, the two suspects casually got into a taxi and sped off down the national highway.

The small-town station was located right beside the national highway, and the waiting hall was mostly empty because the weather was too hot and the air conditioning was broken. Those not waiting for a train were sitting outside on the ground, enjoying the cooler air.

The local taxis had been pulling in business here year-round. Lines of old red Santanas waited, available for anyone to hop in. Moreover, based on Gu Ping and his colleagues' judgment, the suspects were supposed to make a connection here today; it was unlikely they would leave without conducting their business.

It was precisely because of this reasoning that in a moment of oversight, they slipped right under their watch.
