"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our Dewford Town's annual fishing competition!"
The day of the fishing competition had finally arrived. Gary, Rosa, and Hilda, who were participating in the competition, stood among the dozens of participants, quietly watching the host's announcement from the high platform.
"The rules of today's fishing competition are the same as before. The competition time is limited to three hours, and the venue is the fish pond right in front of us. Contestants can fish for Pokémon in this pond within the specified time and can only choose one Pokémon to present for the final judging. Whoever has the best Pokémon will become the champion!"
"Oh oh oh!"
After hearing the rules announced by the host, the crowd cheered enthusiastically.
The host continued, "To maintain absolute fairness in this fishing competition, we have invited several referees to judge the Pokémon caught by the contestants. These referees are Brawly, the Gym Leader of Dewford Gym, Nurse Joy from the Pokémon Center, and Officer Jenny from Dewford Town!"
Under the host's announcement, Brawly, Nurse Joy, and Officer Jenny all stood up and bowed to everyone present. Brawly, representing the referees, assured everyone that the judging would be fair.
"It's about to start, so exciting!"
As Rosa watched the competition about to begin, she was eager to get started.
"Keep calm, Rosa, otherwise you won't be able to catch any fish."
Seeing Rosa's impatience, Hilda reminded her gently.
"I know."
Although Rosa responded, it was unclear if she truly heard the advice.
Finally, the host did not disappoint Rosa. After introducing the referees, the host took the microphone and announced to all the participants: "Now I declare that this Dewford Town fishing competition has officially begun!"
After the announcement, all the participants, including Gary and the others, walked towards the fish pond with the fishing rods provided by the competition.
Upon reaching the edge of the fish pond, Rosa noticed that every few meters along the bank, a contestant was occupying a spot and preparing to fish.
"There are too many people here!"
Seeing the many contestants by the river, Rosa felt overwhelmed and turned to ask Gary, "Gary, where should we go fishing?"
"Let's go a little further away first. There are too many people here. It's not suitable for fishing. Let's go to the other side of the river."
Gary observed the crowded bank and the fewer people on the opposite side, suggesting to Rosa and Hilda.
"That's the only way."
Since Gary, Rosa, and Hilda were at the end of the list, there were no more spots near the bank, so they had to choose the other side.
There were fewer people on the other side of the river, but the journey was a bit far and took more time.
"There are too many people here, I'm afraid we can't catch a good Pokémon. Those smart people choose a place with fewer people, so that place is suitable for us."
Hilda pointed out that some people, like them, chose a more remote spot.
"That's right, let's go!"
After hearing Gary and Hilda's reasoning, Rosa agreed.
"Okay!"
With the fishing location decided, Gary and the others set off towards their chosen spot.
"Finally here."
After spending nearly half an hour, Gary, Rosa, and Hilda reached the other side of the river.
"Let's choose to fish here!"
Gary looked around and, seeing no one else, suggested to Rosa and Hilda.
"Okay!"
After Rosa and Hilda agreed, they began fishing under Gary's lead.
"You two didn't wait for me."
Gary looked at the two women who had already started and pointed at them helplessly.
"Hey, we are opponents now, I won't let you go."
Hearing Gary's words, Rosa prepared the bait and smiled at him.
Although Hilda didn't say anything, her smiling eyes conveyed the same message.
"It's not that whoever is one step faster can win. Maybe I will be the winner in the end!"
Gary set up his fishing rod while challenging Rosa and Hilda.
"Then let's give it a try."
With that, Rosa placed the bait and cast her line into the pond.
Hilda was just a step behind Rosa, casting her line into the river as well.
"I'm done here too!"
Gary was a few minutes later than Rosa and Hilda, casting his line last.
After casting their lines, all that was left was to wait patiently.
But after a short while, the impatient Rosa couldn't stand it anymore.
"Fish, fish, when can you take the bait?"
Rosa hummed boredly while staring at her fishing rod, clearly unable to wait any longer.
"Rosa, you have to keep quiet when fishing, otherwise they won't take the bait."
Seeing Rosa's restlessness, Gary reminded her gently.
"Okay."
After hearing Gary's words, Rosa nodded and fell silent, eager to win the fishing competition.
With Rosa quiet, Gary continued watching his fishing rod, waiting for a Pokémon to take the bait.
Just a few minutes later, Rosa suddenly screamed, catching Gary and Hilda's attention.
"A Pokémon has taken the bait!"
Gary and Hilda looked towards the sound and saw Rosa's fishing rod shaking, a sign that a Pokémon had taken the bait.
"It seems that Rosa got the first catch!"
Seeing her own fishing rod still, Hilda sighed helplessly.
"Rosa, quickly, see what Pokémon it is!"
At Gary's urging, Rosa picked up her fishing rod and began reeling in the Pokémon from the water.
With Rosa's sudden effort, a figure appeared in everyone's sight.
"That is..."
