Michael looked at his stats, which had increased since the first time he arrived in this new world. It had been four weeks since he began his rigorous training. He had grown a bit and appeared more muscular than before, which he attributed to the increase in his stats, if he had to guess.
'I wonder how my charm and luck will improve?' Michael thought, glancing at the two stats that had remained unchanged since the start. He had no idea how to increase them for now, so he set them aside for the time being and focused on his health and mana.
His health and mana had risen by five and twenty points each, which was quite surprising. He hadn't expected his stats to increase without leveling up, and to level up, he needed to defeat monsters or similar beings, of which he was still uncertain.
In his view, the credit for his increased stats was not only due to his overall training but also to the fact that his body was still growing; he had a few more years before he would finish puberty and be considered an adult. Right now, he was in puberty, and there was still much progress to be made.
'My hard work is really paying off; I guess those sleepless nights didn't go to waste after all,' Michael mused as he opened his skills menu. The long list of skills appeared once again on the screen.

[Skills:]
-Appraisal (Level 2)
-Analyzer (Level 6)
-Tweaking (Level 6)
-Electronics (Level 8)
-Sleep Resistance (Level 5)
-Mana Sense (Level 3)
-Mana Manipulation (Level 3)
-Mana Recovery (Level 3)
.....
A few of my skills have already leveled up by a level or two. The hardest to improve is the appraisal skill, but after reaching level two, I can at least see the stats of the trainee, which is a good sign of progress. However, it does cost mana, though the consumption is relatively low for now.
Michael nodded as he looked at the upgraded skills on the screen. All the skills related to mana had reached level 3, which was a good accomplishment in a month. It took him only one week to reach level 1, but the time required to upgrade them to the next level increased to three weeks.
I guess raising their levels will be much more difficult than I thought it would be. I wonder what the maximum level of the skills is. Level 5? 10? Or it could even be 100. I can already see myself grinding, he sighed to himself and focused on the next task.
Let's finish it today. Michael opened his palm and began gathering mana. The mana channeled through his body and veins, taking the shape of an arrow hovering a couple of inches above his palm in blue form.
It's almost finished. Michael kept his focus on the task at hand, and soon an arrow took on a definite shape. Just as he completed creating the arrow, a new message popped up on the screen.
[You have learnt the spell Mana Bolt]
[You have gained the skill Chantless Casting]
[You have gained the Title Magic Scholar]
'Wow! Three notifications all of a sudden. Am I lucky or what', Michael was flabbergasted and surprised by the number of notifications appearing one by one and hovering right in front of his eyes. He hurriedly opened the Status screen,
[Name: Michael Morgan]
[Age: 10]
[Race: Human]
[Class: None]
[Title: Magic Scholar]
[Magic Scholar: Increases Intelligence +10, Increases Mana 10%, Increases the damage of the spell, Increases the learning speed of spells & skills]
This title not only boosts my mana and intelligence, but it will also aid me in learning spells in the future. Especially the increase in spell damage output. Doesn't that mean I can become quite strong even before my awakening ritual? I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.
Michael was grinning from ear to ear after acquiring the title. It not only highlighted the benefits of the title but also indicated that there were ways to enhance stats. He looked down and checked the new skill in the Skill Section.

[Skills]
-Chantless Casting (Level Max)
[Chantless Casting: Allows the user to silently cast the spells without chanting the Incantaions]
Now this is what I call a significant boost in combat strength. I won't have to wait around to cast the spells before finishing the incantation. I've heard that chanting the incantation is a necessary process, and without it, one can't cast the spells. It's a double-edged sword for me, though.
Michael looked both happy and troubled at the same time. According to what he had read so far, one needs to recite the entire chant before casting a spell; otherwise, the spell wouldn't work, and all the mana would be considered wasted.
'There was no mention of chantless spells in the library's books. I guess I'll have to keep this hidden until I learn more about it after awakening or if I can get my hands on something more useful related to mana. Nobody needs to know that I can cast spells. I wonder if they also have the appraisal skill to check my status screen. Wouldn't that bring trouble? Ugh! It's getting more complicated as time passes by. Let's focus on the task at hand first.'
Michael cleared his thoughts and returned to the main screen. A new section had been added to the screen.
[Spells]
-Mana Bolt ( Level 1)
[Mana Bolt: Allows the user to channel the mana, a form of magical energy, into a concentrated projectile that is launched at a target]
'So skills and spells are different. I was actually looking at this the wrong way. I focused more on the shape rather than the actual basics. However, the system of the world recognized my intent and created a better version of my spell.'
Michael understood why the name of the spell differed from what he was trying to practice. His thinking had been flawed from the start, but still, the world system acknowledged what he was attempting. Even though he had only completed it halfway, he had all the ideas in his head, which the system automatically adjusted and transformed into a spell.
'Mana Bolt is simply a spell that represents a concentrated form of magical energy. It doesn't matter if it's an arrow or a sword; I was only thinking of it as a projectile rather than a weapon. Does this mean if I create a sword of mana, I can use it as a weapon too? I'm not sure if I'm on the right track. I'll need to conduct more experiments on it.'
Michael approached the window and gazed outside toward the garden. He contemplated using the spell and soon envisioned the Mana Bolt, or rather, he imagined it as an arrow again, and it formed, hovering above his palm.
'So I can adjust the intensity of the mana, and I believe that the destruction caused by the spell can be controlled based on that. I can't test this spell in the training ground, as it would reveal my true abilities, which could lead to an unpredictable outcome that I can't risk without proper knowledge.'
He looked ahead and reduced the intensity of the mana in the spell to the minimum level where it could still be used, then pointed his palm toward the nearest tree. He willed it, and an arrow shot away from his hand at high speed, heading straight for the tree.
Swish
'Wow,' Michael felt an incredible rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins when the spell was released. He had never imagined that a day would come when he could use magic himself rather than just witnessing it in anime and movies. It was an exhilarating feeling nonetheless.
Thwack
[You have caused 10 damage]
A notification appeared indicating the amount of damage he had caused, accompanied by a faint sound of something striking the tree, though it was too quiet to elicit any response from the guards patrolling outside.
Thanks to the moonlight and his keen vision, Michael could see that the arrow had penetrated the tree, but it hadn't emerged from the other side, as the tree was thicker than those back on Earth.
'This is the result of me lowering the mana to a minimum. If I input maximum mana, I wonder if the tree will be cut in half? That would be amazing. I wonder what the damage rate will be then.'
Michael mused as he checked his status screen once more. A few MP points were missing, which accounted for the mana cost of firing that spell. The cost was manageable considering the damage inflicted by the spell. He conducted a few more experiments, keeping the spell's intensity at its lowest. After mastering the spell, he returned to rest.
