Kapitel 18: Chapter 18: Wishes!

"I didn't expect things to turn out like this," Kotomine Kirei muttered, clutching his bleeding right arm. He glanced at the slowly disappearing figure of Kiritsugu Emiya in the distance. None of the Masters had anticipated the gathering of all the Servants. Even Caster and Lancer, who were previously battling elsewhere, had converged here, along with the previously hidden Berserker and Rider.

Mana was being drained rapidly from the ongoing combat—a natural result of Servants clashing.

'This can't continue for long,' Kiritsugu thought, hidden in the shadows. He had managed to wound Kirei's right arm, but he wasn't unscathed himself. His body was in pain, covered in bruises and wounds from their earlier fight.

'What's happening over there…' he wondered, sensing the gathering of the Servants but unsure of the exact situation.

"Oh my, what a curious sight," an unfamiliar voice echoed, causing both Kirei and Kiritsugu to frown. They turned to see a figure walking down the street.

Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi, one of the Lords of the Clock Tower and the one aiding Lancer's Master, Sola. Both Kiritsugu and Kirei instantly recognized him.

"I was merely tracking Caster to dispel his magic, and what do I find? Two Masters fighting," Kayneth mused, accompanied by his strange, slime-like creature. "What a wonderful opportunity. If I eliminate both of you, Sola will have an easier time."

Seizing the advantage, Kayneth wasn't one to let such an opportunity slip by. Killing both Kirei and Kiritsugu would force their respective Servants out of the war.

"Oh? Do you truly believe you're on our level?" Kirei said, holding his black keys between his fingers, his tone mocking.

"Just a country bumpkin magician," Kayneth sneered. "No class, no vision." He had no respect for Kirei, viewing him as nothing more than a lackey for the Tohsaka family. As for Kiritsugu, he was nothing more than a lowlife in the eyes of the Clock Tower. Kayneth wouldn't hesitate to crush them both.

At his command, his magical construct—the Moon Spirit Liquid—moved forward, slithering toward the two Masters like a wave of liquid mercury.

'Retreat for now,' Kiritsugu thought, unwilling to face two enemies at once. There was no need to risk a fight here when his primary concern was confirming the safety of Irisviel and Maiya. He quickly activated his magic, dodging the first strike from the Moon Spirit Liquid and rushing toward his hidden vehicle.

With the engine roaring, Kiritsugu sped away, tires screeching as he tore down the road.

"Interesting," Kayneth said with a smirk. "But you won't escape." He had seen Kiritsugu's Time Manipulation magic but let him go for now. Kiritsugu wouldn't get far—Kayneth had already prepared for this.

"Now, let's deal with you first, Tohsaka's dog," Kayneth said, his eyes narrowing on Kirei, who was still blocking the attacks of the Moon Spirit Liquid.

---

The car sped through the deserted streets, and Kiritsugu couldn't help but feel something was off.

'No people…'

Despite being in a residential area, there wasn't a single person in sight. It was as if the entire neighborhood had been evacuated.

"Wolves?" Kiritsugu noticed shadows moving on the road, morphing into the forms of wolves. Familiar spirits.

Without hesitation, Kiritsugu raised his gun and fired.

Bang!

The shot obliterated the closest wolf, but Kiritsugu knew it wasn't just wolves he was dealing with.

"Kayneth's laid out a magic barrier around this entire area?" he muttered. "Including familiars and wraiths… quite the extravagant setup."

Without Saber to assist him, this was a serious problem. Kayneth's preparations would prevent any easy escape.

'First, I need to find the core of this barrier.' Kiritsugu thought. If he couldn't break free of the magic barrier, he'd be stuck here.

Bang! Bang! Bang! He kept shooting at the incoming spirits as he considered using a Command Spell, but he hesitated.

'This might also be my opportunity,' he realized.

---

Clang!

Bang!

While the Masters were caught in their own battles, the Servants had already begun their own skirmishes. Lancer against Caster. Berserker and Assassin. Rider and Saber.

Only Archer remained perched on his lamppost, watching the chaos unfold below him.

"Let me go already! Undo this ridiculous curse!" Kyoko yelled at Jounouchi, who continued to dodge her attacks.

"There's no way I'd undo it when you're trying to kill me!" Jounouchi retorted, summoning another monster card to block her chain attacks.

"Enough! Release me!" Kyoko's frustration boiled over as her phantom chains continued to trap her.

"And get skewered by that spear of yours? No thanks!" Jounouchi quipped, keeping his distance as best as he could.

---

Clang!

Kenshin's sword met Berserker's katana, ringing out with a sharp metallic clash.

'Even his swordsmanship is on par with mine?' Kenshin thought, astonished. It wasn't just Berserker's skill with larger weapons like spears, axes, and swords—his katana technique was exceptional as well. Kenshin could feel the weight behind each strike.

But this style… it was unfamiliar to Kenshin, though it resembled something from Japan. The flow of the swordsmanship was unlike anything he'd encountered. And then, in an instant, a wave of energy erupted from Berserker's katana.

Heavenly Five Swords!

The ground split apart as blue energy sliced through the earth, gouging deep trenches in the battlefield.

Compared to the others, Rider and Saber's confrontation seemed much calmer. Despite her earlier aggression, Saber had calmed down, almost as if she was lost in thought. Lelouch couldn't help but find her behavior odd. He didn't understand how the so-called "King of Knights" thought.

But as long as she didn't interfere with him, he didn't care much.

"Can you tell me your wish?" Saber asked suddenly.

"What does that matter to you?" Lelouch responded, not expecting such a direct question.

"I just want to know. If you are truly a king of Britain, what is the wish you're fighting for?" Saber's tone was gentle, a stark contrast to her earlier attitude.

"If I told you it was 'world peace,' would you believe me?" Lelouch answered, his voice laced with sarcasm.

Saber froze for a moment, caught off guard by the response.

'Kiritsugu said something similar…' she thought, recalling her Master's own goal. But hearing those words from Rider—a fellow Servant—felt strangely out of place.
