Nessa's laughter was loud and genuine, her earlier frustration melting away as she shook her head, still chuckling.
"I can't believe it," she said, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye. "You? A teacher?"
Victor grinned, shrugging as if it wasn't that big of a deal.
"You might be surprised just how good I turn out to be at it."
"You? A good teacher? Come up with a better joke, please."
"Hey! Don't judge me yet."
"Look Victor…"
Nessa was interrupted by a rumble they felt at their feet.
"Do you feel that Victor?" she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Each vibration seemed to draw the rumbling closer, as though something massive was moving toward them.
"Yeah. But what is it?"
They both froze, their faces inches apart, as the rumble that shook the ground beneath them, intensified, breaking the moment.
Victor looked to the forest, squinting as he channeled mana to his eyes.
"What is that…?"
