Kapitel 6: 5

Chapter 5: Through Mia's Eyes

From the moment Marco first walked into the shop, Mia felt something different about him. It wasn't just his looks or his reserved attitude, but the way his dark eyes scanned the surroundings, attentive to every detail. Dominic had noticed it first, of course, always on the lookout for new talents for the races, but Mia saw something beyond a potential racer. There was a loneliness in Marco that intrigued her, a mix of strength and vulnerability that she couldn't ignore.

Over the next few weeks, Mia watched how Marco integrated himself into the group of racers. He was quiet, reserved, but always ready to help when someone needed it. Dominic trusted him, and that was enough for the rest of the group to accept him without question. However, Mia couldn't help but wonder what really brought him here. Something in his gaze told her that his presence wasn't just a coincidence.

As time went by, Mia began to enjoy the conversations they shared while working in the shop. Marco had a dry sense of humor and a way of talking that made her laugh without even trying. She found herself looking forward to those moments, the casual chats and the furtive smiles. There was something comforting in his company, something that made her feel safe and understood.

But along with those feelings came doubts. She couldn't help thinking about the life she and her brother led. The races, the adrenaline, the constant risk… It was a lifestyle not everyone could understand or accept. Could Marco be part of that? Would he even want to be involved in something so dangerous?

Mia clearly remembered the night of the first race where Marco had been just a spectator. The engines roaring, the tension in the air, and Marco watching silently from a distance. After the race, she saw him talking to Dominic, his face serious and focused. She knew what that conversation meant; Dominic was testing the waters, evaluating if Marco had the guts to be part of the team.

That night, after everyone left, Mia had found Marco in the alley behind the shop, looking up at the starry sky. Something about his expression made her stop; he seemed lost in thought, so far removed from the noise and excitement they had just witnessed.

"Do you like it?" she had asked, approaching him carefully.

Marco had looked at her with that piercing gaze that always made her feel like he could see right through her. He had smiled, a small smile, almost imperceptible.

"It's… different from what I'm used to," he had replied, turning his gaze back to the stars.

Mia had felt a knot in her stomach. There was something in his tone that made her realize Marco wasn't someone who had an easy life. She wanted to know more, wanted to understand what kept him in his silence, but she didn't dare to ask. Not yet.

The weeks passed, and Marco began to get more involved in the team's activities. Dominic tested him several times, and each time, Marco proved to be more than he seemed. He was fast, smart, and above all, loyal. Mia couldn't help but feel more attracted to him, even though she knew she should keep her feelings in check.

Then came the moment when everything changed. One night, after another successful race, Dominic decided it was time to involve Marco in a more risky job. Mia had overheard them talking in the back room, her brother explaining the plan's details in a low but firm voice. She felt a mix of fear and excitement. She wanted Marco to be part of their world, but she also feared what that would mean for him.

And then Marco's confession came. The way he had opened up to her, his sincere words, and the way his hand had gently caressed her cheek. Mia hadn't expected to feel so much in that moment; the warmth of his touch, the intensity of his gaze… She had felt vulnerable, but at the same time, more alive than ever.

Since that night, Mia knew she couldn't keep ignoring what she felt. Marco was different from anyone she had ever known, and although doubts still persisted, she was willing to find out what all this meant. She knew her life would always be tied to the races, to the speed, and to the danger, but maybe, just maybe, there could be a place for Marco in that chaos. A place for both of them.

And so, under the stars that had witnessed so many races and secrets, Mia decided she was ready to face whatever came next. With Marco by her side, maybe the future wasn't so uncertain after all.
