The next day arrived, marking the day of the parent-teacher meeting. Qin Sheng sat quietly in her seat, observing as numerous parents gathered around their children.

At H City High School, parent-teacher meetings were mandatory unless parents had pressing matters. By now, most of the parents in Class Four had arrived, except for Qin Sheng's and Huang Xiaoyan's.

"Lin Feng, can't you just study properly? You constantly bring shame upon me. I regret ever having you as my son. I should have just adopted one. Having you around is enough to take ten years off my life," bellowed Lin Feng's father, a nouveau riche man, adorned with a gaudy gold chain and sporting a sizable beer belly. He twisted Lin Feng's ear as he growled.

"Dad, dad, it hurts! Let go!" Lin Feng's face contorted in pain, but he was more concerned about the embarrassment. Being scolded in front of his classmates and having his ear twisted in public was a serious blow to his reputation.
