"Carmelo, Allen, you're off; Jack, Charlie, you're on..."
The substituted Allen Kanter, a tall power forward at 206 cm, had decent inside scoring skills but slightly poor athletic ability.
The newly substituted Charlie Monroe, standing 203 cm, was a power forward with outstanding athletic abilities, had almost no offensive skills, yet was very active defensively.
Both were power forwards and focal training targets for the coaching staff. While their talents were quite ordinary, they had been the best two power forwards selected from last season's ninth-grade players.
"Kevin, don't keep driving towards the inside, spread out to the sides to open up space; Charlie, pay attention to rebounding and falling back; James, control the pace during side moves, and make sure the ball-holding teammates can see you; DeMar, Jack, play well together..."
After the substitutions, Johnson gave each player brief instructions and said nothing more.
