Kapitel 53: Chapter 51: 3 seconds to make a decision

After more than an hour of cleaning work, the equipment brought by Jason and Raphtalia was neatly arranged by the boss and set aside.

The boss held a pen and paper in his hand, the paper filled with dense writings.

"It's finally done. There are a total of 53 sets of armor, 13 long swords, 25 staves, and 9 other types of weapons. The total value is 256 gold coins. If we consider a recycling price, it would be a bit lower, around 200 gold coins," he said, wiping the sweat from his forehead while glancing at the paper.

As a weapon shop owner, seeing so much equipment and such a long tally of numbers made his eyes sparkle with excitement. "If you sell all this equipment, Shield Hero, you'll soon be rich! But even if the enemy country doesn't recruit you as a hero, you could live comfortably for several lifetimes.

The boss knew it was impossible for Jason to give up his status as a Shield Hero just yet; he was simply trying to illustrate the worth of the gold coins in front of Jason.

"Oh? If that's the case, let's sell them all to you. Since we are old acquaintances, I'll let you take them all for 200 gold coins, so you can make a small profit," Jason replied casually from the chair beside him, sipping tea leisurely.

However, the boss's face showed embarrassment at this.

"Brother Shield Hero...you acquired these from the church...ahem...I can't sell them here on the black market. If the group from the 3 heros church finds out, I won't be able to bear the consequences. After all, I'm just an ordinary shop owner, and I don't have that much money to buy all this equipment at once," the boss explained, shrugging in resignation.

Understanding his predicament, Jason smiled. "It's okay, I appreciate your honesty. So can you tell me which places are more suitable for selling this equipment?"

Jason was keenly aware that selling the equipment was essential after he and Raphtalia had put so much effort into moving it here.

The boss stroked his beard, deep in thought, when suddenly his eyes lit up. "There are three places where someone should be willing to purchase this equipment."

"Where?" Jason leaned forward, eager for answers.

"The first location is Zeltoble, the country of mercenaries. The second is the demi-human country, Schildfrieden, along with Sidfelt. Personally, I recommend the demi-human country Schildfrieden; after all, while it's full of demi-humans, humans are also welcome, especially shield heroes. If you have equipment to sell, it will definitely be popular, particularly the gear of the Three Heroes."

"Schildfrieden? That place is a bit far," Jason frowned. The distance seemed demanding for selling goods, but he could weigh the benefits against the potential rewards.

"It certainly is a bit of a journey. It takes about two weeks by boat, or one month by carriage."

"One month? That's further than I thought," Jason mused, contemplating his options. Suddenly, an idea sparked in his mind.

In truth, he didn't need to travel that far at all; he could eliminate the church. Once the queen returned, he could sell all the equipment to her.

If she didn't want it or couldn't take it all, he could always consider the demi-human country afterward.

"Alright, we'll go with that plan first. There's a lot still to accomplish in this country, and now isn't the right time to leave," Jason declared, standing from his chair, invigorated. Given that Filo hadn't hatched yet, it made little sense to leave just yet.

"What's been decided?" The boss and Raphtalia exchanged bewildered glances.

"Boss, as the owner of a weapon shop, you must have a warehouse. I'll store this equipment in your warehouse until the time is right to retrieve it. Of course, I won't forget to reward you for this," Jason added, determination in his voice. "Let's go, Raphtalia!"

Before the boss could react, Jason tossed him a gold coin.

"Brother Shield Hero..." the boss started to protest, but Jason was already dragging Raphtalia out.

"I trust you, and even if the damn cult tries to take the equipment, I'll be sure to 'retrieve' it back. Don't worry," Jason's voice echoed as they exited the shop.

The boss turned back to the equipment and sighed deeply, taken aback by the profound trust Jason had placed in him. Just leaving it there casually like that?

With a reluctant shake of his head, the boss began to move the equipment piece by piece into his own warehouse. He couldn't deny the fact that despite not having a chance to refuse, he had agreed to the terms once he accepted the gold coin.

Jason and Raphtalia, on their way to the royal palace, navigated through the bustling streets.

Given that Jason had unraveled the Pope's conspiracy, the palace was in a state of chaos, and the earlier celebratory banquet had been abruptly called off. After all, the king, ridden with shame, had no desire to mingle with others in such a disgraceful state.

Of course, once the nobles dispersed, the king strictly prohibited them from discussing the day's events. Yet, so many witnesses had seen the king's embarrassment; it was clear he lacked the prestige to quell any gossip entirely.

How things would develop from here remained to be seen, and the unfolding story would surely hold its riddles and revelations.

At this time, Jason brought Raphtalia to the palace, but they found themselves halted, as the drawbridge connecting the palace to the town was closed.

"Bring down the drawbridge!" Jason shouted towards the bridge, believing there must be someone on duty at this hour.

"What should we do now? Should we open the bridge for Lord Shield Hero?" one of the soldiers on duty asked, looking uncertain.

"How should I know? If it were His Majesty the King, he probably wouldn't want to see Lord Shield Hero right now. After all, after today's events, Lord Shield Hero has become a nightmare for His Majesty," another soldier replied.

"Then, does that mean we shouldn't lower the drawbridge?" the first soldier asked, glancing nervously at his comrades.

"Don't you understand how powerful Lord Shield Hero is? A mere drawbridge wouldn't be able to stop him! He could probably break it with a single punch!" another soldier chimed in.

"Then what are we supposed to do? Should we let him through or not?" one soldier asked, clearly flustered.

"I have no idea!" came the panicked response.

As the soldiers standing guard grappled with the dilemma, they became increasingly tense. It felt like no matter what they chose, they would be in the wrong.

"If you don't lower the drawbridge soon, I'll be forced to take matters into my own hands! You have three seconds to decide!" Jason's voice boomed again, echoing with authority, causing the soldiers behind the suspension bridge to tremble in fear.

The atmosphere was heavy with uncertainty. On one hand, they were wary of angering a figure as formidable as the Shield Hero; on the other, they feared the repercussions of disobeying orders. The seconds stretched on, and the indecision was palpable as they exchanged anxious glances.

Kapitel 54: Chapter 52: Ordinary people cant see your gadgets

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

Jason had barely finished counting down when the sound of iron chains pulling echoed from inside the palace, and the enormous portcullis slowly lowered.

For the soldiers standing guard, allowing Jason in would surely result in punishment from the king. On the other hand, refusing to let him enter might lead to death. Faced with the two choices, they concluded that it was better to face the king's wrath than to risk their lives.

With a loud thud, the portcullis finally dropped fully. A group of soldiers rushed out of the palace, panic etched on their faces.

"Lord Shield Hero... I didn't know it was you—I'm so sorry!" one soldier exclaimed, bowing deeply.

"Yes, yes, we would never intentionally stop you!" another added hastily.

"If we've offended you in any way, please forgive us!" piped up yet another soldier.

"Had we known you were here, we would have lowered the portcullis right away!" they continued in unison.

Each soldier wore a flattering expression, their heads bowed as low as possible, showcasing their respect for Jason. Yet, there was no admiration in their eyes—only fear.

Jason narrowed his eyes, skeptical of their flattery. He recalled how they had looked down on him before; their current subservience was a direct result of the strength he had displayed at the celebration banquet.

"Hmph... a bunch of cowardly fools," Jason scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Yes, yes, you are right. We're just cowards," they all nodded desperately in agreement, seeming willing to admit anything just to stay in Jason's good graces.

The sheer spinelessness of their humility made Jason's disgust evident.

"Seeing you all makes me want to vomit. I'm going to find that old king, now get out of my way!" Jason waved his hand dismissively and marched toward the palace, with Raphtalia at his side.

"Yes, yes, we're leaving right away!" the soldiers hurriedly responded, scrambling out of Jason and Raphtalia's path.

"I said roll, don't you understand the word roll?" Jason suddenly halted and shot them a cold glare.

The soldiers exchanged nervous glances before they all knelt down and started rolling away in unison, the clanking of their armor echoing as they moved.

"Raphtalia, what do you think about this situation?" Jason asked as they walked toward the palace.

"I remember when these soldiers looked at us with disdain before, but now they are so obedient. They even roll away when you tell them to," Raphtalia observed.

"This is quite beneficial. They fear me now. Their fear makes them obedient, and as long as they know their place, I have no need to eliminate them," Jason replied with a slight smile. He relished the newfound respect he had earned through strength.

"Then why not just kill them?" Raphtalia inquired.

"Because obedient dogs can be useful. It's better to keep them around; they might serve a purpose later," Jason answered just as he spotted a maid passing by in the corridor. He quickly stepped forward and seized her arm. "Tell me, where is the king now?"

"My lord Shield Hero, the king is currently bathing," the maid stammered, startled, but immediately bowed her head upon recognizing him.

"Where is it?"

"Just… go through two corridors and turn left. He's at the end of that corridor," the maid pointed in the indicated direction.

"Thanks!" Jason replied as he began to walk away but then paused after only a few steps. "Raphtalia, step back a bit. I don't want you to see anything inappropriate."

"Yes!" Raphtalia nodded and moved away, disappearing into the shadows.

Following the maid's directions, Jason soon reached a grand three-meter-high gate guarded by two soldiers wielding long spears.

The soldiers immediately positioned themselves to block his path. "Lord Shield Hero, please wait a moment. His Majesty is in the bath!" they said, trying to stall him.

"Get out of my way!" Jason snapped, his voice laced with a lethal edge.

Inside the bathhouse of the royal palace was a lavish setup, resembling a vast swimming pool filled with steaming water. Above, a stone lion head spouted jets of water, creating a misty atmosphere throughout the room.

Just a bathhouse can actually make you feel spectacular, and the level of luxury is astounding.

As for the king inside, there was no sign of enjoyment on his face, instead he had a ferocious face, and he was constantly washing his body with a soft brush.

Because the baron exploded before, a lot of filthy things splashed on him, which made him feel extremely sick.

It seems that no matter how much I wash it, I still feel that there is a stench on my body, which is extremely dirty.

Suddenly, there was a loud noise.

The king was so frightened that he fell into the hot water and even choked a few mouthfuls of water. He almost thought he was going to drown in the bathhouse.

The king who finally climbed out was furious and shouted: "What's going on?"

However, in the next second, he saw two soldiers lying on the ground, the door of the bathhouse also became fragmented, and a figure was slowly walking in.

"Shield... Shield Hero!"

The moment he saw the face of the visitor, the anger on the king's face disappeared, and he was so frightened that he hurriedly pulled a towel from the side to cover the important part: "You...what do you want to do?"

"Don't cover it up. Ordinary people can't see this little gadget of yours. I'm a little suspicious now. Is your daughter really yours?"

As Jason said, he raised his right hand and gave a thumbs up. After thinking about it for a while, it didn't feel right, so he turned his little thumb up, and the thumb was placed on the nail cover of the little finger.

"you you..."

Being poked at the sore spot, the king blushed from holding back, "You" for a long time, but he couldn't say a complete sentence.

"Your size, didn't I tell you to wait for me there, I haven't settled with you yet, and now you're taking a leisurely bath here, come here for me."

Jason didn't bother to taunt him anymore, he strode forward, grabbed the king's hair and dragged him outside.

The king grinned hoarsely in pain, suddenly remembered that he had nothing on, and hurriedly shouted: "Shield Hero! Wait, I understand, at least let me put on clothes.

"I've said it all. Ordinary people can't see your gadgets. It doesn't matter whether you wear them or not. Anyway, they are invisible.

Jason didn't stop at all, instead he quickened his pace and stepped out of the bathhouse.

Hearing this, the king almost vomited blood. Even if he couldn't see it, he was a king anyway. If he went out like this and was seen by soldiers and maids, would he still be a man?
