The birthday party was in full swing and the birthday boy, Jeremy’s family, were already betting on who the boy was going to be mated to and how that prospect would affect their position in the pack hierarchy.

So far there were three candidates and all three were very close to Jeremy one way or the other. But unaware of his parents and aunts betting games, the birthday boy was just out there, having the time of his life, blissfully unaware of the peer pressure that his innocent mate would be put under.

“This kinda reminds me of you and Sarah,” I told Cam as the three of us sat towards the outer edges of the room, enjoying our spiked drinks from afar. “And there are still people out there who try to find new ways to manipulate the mating bond.”

“Must I be reminded of that treacherous time as well?” Darcia commented with a sour expression. “To think that the two of you hid your relationship status so well, even your parents were left guessing until the very end.”
