Tang Jinyi was momentarily at a loss for words upon hearing Liam's question. She hadn't considered the issue from that angle before. The situation had just erupted, and she had rushed out upon receiving the news. It was already nighttime; many students and faculty members were resting, and emergency calls were still being made to rouse them. Thus, she hadn't given much thought to the absence of certain individuals, believing that even in emergencies, mobilizing personnel takes time.
However, Liam's serious inquiry prompted her to run through a list of names in her mind, and her expression grew increasingly stiff.
"Xu Yuanshan... After the admissions assessment for the specially admitted students, he flew out to submit recordings to the Human Union and hasn't returned yet."
"Yan Jin... The Western Academy's opening ceremony required more personnel, especially superhumans with mental abilities. He flew out two days ago."
"Chen Siyong... During the last battle with the god-servants, he overexerted himself mentally and is now bedridden."
"Ye Yang... She's not here either, is she...?"
There are relatively few superhumans with mental abilities, and even fewer high-level ones. Running through a few familiar names quickly, Tang Jinyi realized, to her surprise, that all the high-level mental superhumans capable of doing what Liam had just done were absent!
"This... But this is probably just a coincidence or an unexpected situation..."
"I know, I know this is a coincidence. If it were a deliberately orchestrated situation, then it would be terrifying—it would mean corruption from top to bottom," Liam replied.
"However, when I was sensing earlier, I picked up on a lot of other things as well."
"If I were to make a bold guess, I would say something that none of you might want to hear."
"Within the Eastern Academy, or perhaps among the superhumans in general, there's a traitor, and this person is likely in a high position."
The heads of the various departments had already started to organize their combat teams and were heading toward the locations Liam had identified. But when they heard this, they all looked up at Liam.
His words shifted the atmosphere to one of unease.
Traitors are always a sensitive topic in any organization.
And when he mentioned "a high position," what exactly did he mean by that?
After all, everyone present held significant positions!
An uncomfortable silence fell over the group as they stared at Liam, their eyes also flicking to observe one another cautiously.
Eventually, Tang Jinyi broke the silence, trying to stabilize the situation.
"We have a situation to handle right now, so let's not discuss anything uncertain. I believe everyone here is trustworthy. Thank you for your hard work tonight."
Liam had already suspected this for some time, especially after receiving that red envelope and being warned by the Voice of All Things about an internal traitor.
Initially, he thought it had nothing to do with him and that those in charge would handle it. However, it seemed like no progress had been made—it was like a stone sinking into the sea.
Taking advantage of the current situation, he decided to bring it out into the open. Keeping quiet about it could lead to bigger problems down the road.
If Liam was the one to rip off the band-aid, Tang Jinyi was the one to stop the bleeding.
Regardless of whether Liam's suspicions were correct, it had to be investigated later.
If internal distrust developed among the academy's key members now, it would be detrimental.
"Yes, ma'am!"
The department heads nodded toward the vice principal, straightening up before setting off to the trouble spots.
It was a troubling situation that would have negative repercussions for the future, but the immediate danger was relatively low. After all, no matter how aggressive the bewitched civilians were, they likely wouldn't pose a significant threat to these experienced superhumans.
"Wait!"
Just as the department heads were about to leave, Liam called out to them again.
For reasons they couldn't explain, his voice sent a shiver down their spines.
Even though they had nothing to hide, they felt uneasy, as if they feared Liam might say something even more shocking.
Oddly, they no longer saw Liam as just a member of the PR department but were almost intimidated by him.
"This incident isn't that simple. There are indeed god-servants behind it."
"These places."
Liam picked up his pen and circled several spots on the already-marked map.
"In these locations, I heard the presence of god-servants.
They might be mingling among the bewitched civilians, exploiting the fact that you can't kill civilians to your advantage.
So, make sure to inform everyone to be cautious. If the situation becomes critical... I believe that regardless of anything else, they should prioritize their own safety.
Also, just because I didn't mark a place doesn't mean it's clear. So, stay vigilant."
After hearing Liam's words, the department heads frowned, their expressions becoming more solemn as they stood in place.
If this were the case, then the severity of the situation had increased significantly, making it far more dangerous.
"What's your name, brother?" The previously skeptical head of the Special Action Division stepped forward and asked.
"Liam."
"Alright, I'll remember that. We owe you one today. Time is of the essence; we need to go."
He patted Liam on the shoulder before turning into a streak of light, speeding off in a particular direction.
Clearly, he was also a superhuman above the fifth realm.
The others nodded at Liam before flying off in different directions.
Tang Jinyi also began issuing orders to various combat instructors, organizing the personnel who would head out to the academy's surroundings.
Watching everyone leave and seeing Vice Principal Tang Jinyi busy coordinating personnel, Liam hesitated briefly before looking at Sophia beside him.
"I think I can trust you.
When I gave you that envelope back then, you handed it directly to the principal. Did he say anything?"
Sophia thought for a moment before gently shaking her head.
Liam continued, "Now, with everything happening, where is he?"
"Generally speaking, unless it's a major crisis requiring the principal's intervention, many emergencies are handled by the student clubs themselves.
That's why members of the six core departments here are all quite seasoned superhumans.
In more extreme cases, it's just the vice principal who steps in."
Liam frowned at her response.
This seemed less about being laid-back and more about being downright irresponsible...
