MILES

Lunch with Renee was far from what I would call our typical meal together. It was clear, blatantly obvious even, that she was upset the entire time. Her demeanor, her expression, everything about her screamed that she was in a bad mood, but no matter how much I tried to get her to talk to me about it, she refused to say what had thrown her off. She wouldn't tell me what had messed up her mood so thoroughly, and I found myself both frustrated and concerned.

I mean, in truth, I could easily find out where she had been and perhaps gain some understanding of what had caused her distress. I could check the tracker in her wedding ring—Or, alternatively, I could get in touch with Fabino, the new security guy I had discreetly hired to follow her around. She doesn't know about him, and he's been keeping an eye on her without her knowledge. Either of these methods would give me a pretty clear picture of what was going on in her life, at least physically.
